Ordered to the Good: Final Causality and Analogical Predication in Thomas Aquinas

Thomas Aquinas's treatments of analogical predication of the divine names have generated perennial and polarizing debates. This article expands the framework for analysis by examining the divine names through the lens of final causality and the convertibility of being and good, stressing agathological participation as crucial for understanding the metaphysical foundation for analogical predication of the divine names. This approach specifies how analogical predication of the divine names functions as an intermediary end subordinate to the ultimate end of the beatific vision and how the ultimate end of the beatific vision causes the intermediate end of analogical predication.     

Suicide Risk among Lesbian,Gay, Bisexual,and Transgender Military Personnel and Veterans: What Does the Literature Tell Us?

Research suggests that both the military and veteran and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) populations may be at increased risk for suicide. A literature review was conducted to identify research related to suicide risk in the LGBT military and veteran populations. Despite the paucity of research directly addressing this issue, themes are discussed evident in the literature on LGBT identity and suicide risk as well as LGBT military service members and veterans. Factors such as social support and victimization appear to be particularly relevant. Suggestions are made with respect to future research that is needed on this very important and timely topic.     

The body in the spiritual exercises of Ignatius of Loyola

The return to the original sources of spiritual traditions advocated by the Second Vatican Council has resulted in a radical reappraisal of the aims and methods of Ignatius of Loyola's manual of ascetical training, the Spiritual Exercises. This article summarises and comments on references to the body in the text of the Exercises and, using the tradition of interpretation given by the original Directories, focuses on the last exercises in the book—the three methods of prayer.
