This study examined the influence of injury representations on emotions and outcomes of athletes with sports‐related musculoskeletal injuries using self‐regulation theory. Participants were athletes (N= 220; M age = 23.44 years, SD= 8.42) with a current sports‐related musculoskeletal injury. Participants self‐reported their cognitive and emotional injury representations, emotions coping procedures, physical and sports functioning, attendance at treatment centers, and 3‐week follow‐up attendance. Participants’ negative and positive affect were influenced by emotional representations. Identity, causal attributions, and emotional representations influenced physical functioning; and identity, serious consequences, causal attributions, and emotional representations predicted sports functioning. Injury severity, identity, and personal control predicted attendance at treatment centers, but the effect of personal control was mediated by problem‐focused coping. Problem‐focused coping predicted 3‐week follow‐up attendance. Results support self‐regulation theory for examining injury representations in athletes.  相似文献

The present study examined the utility of two forms of measurement of intrinsic motivation in increasing the predictive validity of the theory of planned behaviour. Self‐report questionnaires were administered to school pupils (n = 174), University students (n = 129) and adults (n = 157). The data were analysed using confirmatory factor analysis and regression analysis. Confirmatory analysis supported discriminant validity between Forms A and B measures of intrinsic motivation. In addition, hierarchical regression analysis demonstrated that Form B measure of intrinsic motivation increased effectiveness of the theory of planned behaviour in predicting intentions and social behaviour. Further, the regression analysis showed that age and past behaviour did not reduce the effects observed for intrinsic motivation. It is recommended that intrinsic motivation could increase the predictive utility of the theory of planned behaviour. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

While the theory of belief change has attracted a lot of interest from researchers, work on implementing belief change and actually putting it to use in real-world problems is still scarce. In this paper, we present an implementation of propositional belief change using Binary Decision Diagrams. Upper complexity bounds for the algorithm are presented and discussed. The approach is presented both in the general case, as well as on specific belief change operators from the literature. In an effort to gain a better understanding of the empirical efficiency of the algorithms involved, a fault diagnosis problem on combinational circuits is presented, implemented and evaluated.  相似文献

ObjectivesThe purpose of the present paper is to provide a primer on the understanding of meta-analysis.Design and methodAfter presenting the rationale behind meta-analysis, the present paper defines statistical artifacts of sampling error and measurement.FindingsExamples show that statistical artifacts influence the correlation coefficient. The paper also explains the notions of confidence intervals and credibility intervals and how correlations corrected for sampling error and measurement error are calculated.ConclusionsThe paper concludes by explaining the notion of second-order sampling error and moderator meta-analysis.  相似文献

ObjectivesThe purpose of the study was to provide an in-depth analysis of how the Physical Education (PE) teaching context influences teachers' motivational strategies towards students.DesignQualitative semi-structured interviewsMethodsUsing Self-determination theory (Deci, E. L., & Ryan, R. M. (2000). Psychological Enquiry, 11, 227-268) as a guiding framework, semi-structured interviews of 22 PE teachers were examined using categorical content analysis.ResultsThe teachers perceived that an emphasis on student assessment and the time constraints associated with PE lessons often compelled them to use teaching strategies which conflicted with their beliefs about the most appropriate ways to motivate students. The teachers' own performance evaluations and pressure to conform to other teachers' methods also influenced the teachers' motivational strategies, but these influences were often congruent with their teaching beliefs. Additionally, the teachers discussed how perceived cultural norms associated with the teacher-student relationship impacted upon their chosen motivational strategies. These cultural norms were reported by different teachers as either in line, or in conflict with their teaching beliefs. Finally, the influence of the teachers' perceptions of their students helped produce strategies that were congruent with their beliefs, but often different to empirically suggested strategies.ConclusionsIt is important that teacher beliefs are targeted in education programs and that the teaching context aid in facilitating adaptive motivational strategies.  相似文献

Developmental language disorder (DLD) is predominantly a language disorder, but children with DLD also manifest non-language impairments, and neuroanatomical abnormalities have been found in multiple areas of the brain, not all language-associated. We therefore performed a whole brain general segmentation analysis of all major brain regions on MRI scans of 24 DLD subjects (16M, 8F) and 30 controls (15M, 15F), ages 5.7 to 11.3 years. Children with DLD showed increased total brain volume, driven predominantly by a substantial increase in the volume of cerebral white matter. Cerebral cortex and caudate were relatively but not absolutely smaller in DLD. These findings are discussed in relation to issues of specificity vs. generality as they arise in debates about (1) modular vs. general processing deficits and connectionist modeling in DLD, (2) language-specific vs. pervasive, non-specific deficits in DLD and (3) specificity of the disorder vs. overlap with other disorders, notably autism.  相似文献

The authors describe the role of a supervision group of psychotherapists within a wider therapeutic field for severely disturbed borderline patients. The group concentrates on the transference and countertransference, seen according to Racker’s distinction between concordant and complementary identifications. The implications of the prevalence of the complementary identifications over the concordant identifications of the therapists to their patients and the resulting regression to primitive defense mechanisms can be counterbalanced by the group’s integrative functioning as receiver (1) of a variety of information about the patient, (2) of the therapist’s attempt to understand and synthesize, and (3) of the therapist’s countertransference reactions to his patient. The major discrepancies between the various conceptions of the borderline patients’ psychic world and the appropriate therapeutic technique to be applied are also discussed, as well as the way the group filters the information and integrates the therapeutic thought. It might be said, therefore, that, in the “inpatient” phase of the individual psychotherapy, the group of psychotherapists functions, for the patient and the treatment, in a synthesizing context, as it provides the therapist with a space of integration for his split-off part of self and object representations, which the therapist makes use of for his patient.*Members of the Athens University Project for Borderline Patients’ research team consisting of psychoanalysts and psychotherapists, Eginition Hospital, 74 Vas Sophias Avenue, Athens 11528, Greece.Maria Chatziandreou, M.D., is a member of the Hellenic Psychoanalytical Society.Haris Tsani, M.D., is a candidate of the Hellenic Psychoanalytical Society.Nikos Lamnidis, M.D., is a candidate of the Hellenic Psychoanalytical Society.Claire Synodinou, Ph.D., is a member of the Paris Psychoanalytical Society and an associate professor at Panteion University, Athens.Grigoris Vaslamatzis, M.D., is a training analyst of the Hellenic Society of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and an associate professor of psychiatry at Athens University.Address correspondence to: Maria Chatziandreou, M.D., 1-3, Skippi Street, 11525 Athens, Greece.  相似文献

Motion is often thought of as the result of perceptual and higher cognitive processes. Although this idea has been investigated in myriad ways, the understanding of how movements tune cognitive processes is still in its infancy. The present study examined the nonaffective tuning of movements (arm extension and arm flexion) on heuristic and systematic processes. In a departure from recent cognitive tuning models, a model was derived that defines the tuning effect based on the movement goal and not on the movement position. In the experiment, participants moved toward an extension or flexion position with a movement goal which connected the movement with either an avoidance or an approach function. Analysis indicated that cognitive tuning is a product of the movement goal rather than the movement position. Implications for models of motor control as well as for cognitive tuning models are presented.  相似文献
