The present study examined traditional family and independence values among young Vietnamese respondents (N = 204), their perceptions of parents' values, and the impact of differential parent-adolescent acculturation on intergenerational conflict and gender satisfaction. The study confirmed that adolescents perceived that they had less traditional values than their parents. Traditional family values diminished with time spent in Australia while the value accorded to independence increased. This pattern was stronger for girls than for boys. Girls valued Vietnamese traditions less than did their male peers, regarded their parents as being less accepting of independence, and were more dissatisfied with their gender role than boys. For girls but not for boys, discrepancy between adolescent and parental values was associated with more conflict and greater gender dissatisfaction. This study suggests that girls have more difficulty than boys in dealing simultaneously with the expectations of two cultures.  相似文献

Associations of the concepts of nature and artifact with the concepts of female and male were examined using a category inference picture-grouping game with 22 second-grade subjects. In a first session, subjects grouped pictures of objects, such as a tree and a cup, on the basis of a nature/artifact distinction. The purpose of this session was to teach the categorization procedure on an easy task and to highlight the nature/artifact distinction. In a second session, pictures of people, clothing, and accessories were grouped on the basis of a female/male distinction. A new set of pictures containing nature and artifact items was then categorized into the female and male groups. Natural items were assigned more often to the female category while artifact items were assigned more often to the male category. The role of such associations in the development of gender concepts is discussed.  相似文献

The FOCLAB system, a dialect of FOCAL, provides complete real-time experiment control and data acquisition capabilities in the area of experimental psychology. The language provides digital and analog input/output, graphics (including alphanumerics) on a refresh CRT, and a powerful set of time measurement operations. With these facilities FOCAL may be used in cognitive and operant, as well as psychophysiological research. FOCLAB will operate with either PDP-8 or PDP-12 systems, and can control most of the currently existing lab interface options for these computers. This paper focuses on the Swiss dual system of vocational education and training (VET), on the basis of the results of a study on VET dropouts. The adopted theoretical framework and method of analysis is the psychodynamic of work, which makes it possible to stress the specific constraints of a system that is closely related to the world of work. The various forms of suffering evoked by apprentices, as well as the strategies implemented to cope with it, are highlighted. The analyses also stress the pleasure young people can experience in VET. Between pleasure and suffering, these elements make it possible to consider both the assets and the shortcomings of this education system.  相似文献

We compared the role of the red-green, blue-yellow, and luminance post-receptoral mechanisms in the perception of density. The task requires the comparison of densities between two stimuli composed of oriented bandpass elements, pseudo-randomly scattered across an area of constant size. The perception of density differences was measured by a temporal 2AFC procedure for all pairs of mechanisms and for four possible densities. We found that stimuli of identical physical densities are not perceived equally: there is a consistent bias in favour of blue-yellow stimuli which are perceived as significantly more dense than red-green and achromatic stimuli. We considered three factors that could have differentially affected the density perception of blue-yellow stimuli: an increase in the perceived size of the individual blue-yellow elements, a perceived contrast difference, and the presence of local orientation cues. We found that the increased perceived density of the blue-yellow stimuli occurred despite the fact that there was no increase in perceived size of the individual elements, and remained despite corrections for the two other factors. We conclude that the significant increase in perceived density for the blue-yellow mechanism is a global effect, associated with a perceived colour 'melting' of the elements in the array. Our data were fitted with the occupancy model of Allik and Tuulmets (1991, Perception & Psychophysics 49 303-314) and we found that blue-yellow stimuli have a greater 'occupancy' than red-green or achromatic stimuli.  相似文献

The present study examined whether therapist access to the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2) predicted favorable treatment outcome, above and beyond other assessment measures. A manipulated assessment design was used, in which patients were randomly assigned either to a group in which therapists had access to their MMPI-2 data or to a group without therapist access to such information. Illness severity, improvement ratings, number of sessions attended, and premature termination were indicators of therapy outcome. Results indicated that therapist access to the MMPI-2 data did not add to the prediction of positive treatment outcome beyond that predicted by other measures in this setting. Findings from this initial study suggest that, compared with other resources, perhaps in clinical settings with an emphasis on diagnosis-based and evidence-based treatment, the MMPI-2 may not provide incrementally valid information. However, these effects warrant replication across different settings and samples. Guidelines for future studies are discussed.  相似文献
