The Edwards Personal Preference Schedule was administered to a group of men seeking help with their marriages, as well as to a comparable group of men who reported having stable marriages. When the scores of men seeking help and those of men with stable marriages are compared to Edwards' Adult Males, the number and extent of the differences are quite similar. The comparison of the men with stable marriages versus those seeking help shows relatively few differences. This study highlights the need of having an appropriate group for comparison purposes before attributing differences found to selected group variables.  相似文献

This paper addresses the relationship between severe childhood physical abuse and both perverse states of mind and frank perversion in women. The psychic necessity for the perversion in these circumstances is discussed, together with the wide range of forms it may take. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy may pose great technical difficulties in such cases. This is because of both the strains the therapist must bear in the countertransference, and also the constant pressure on the therapist to enact with the patient her perverse internal object relationships.  相似文献

This study sought to determine whether job demands and job resources predicted conflict handling styles among nurses within South African public hospitals. A convenience sample of 205 nurses were included (males?=?10.7%; age range 46 to 60 years?=?38.5%, experience of 5 years and more?=?70.8%, African?=?92.2%). They completed Rahim's Organisational Conflict Inventory – II (ROCI–II: Rahim, 1986) and a job characteristics measure developed for this study. Data were analysed to assess which job demands and resources predicted which conflict handling styles. From the results, time demands, crisis management and colleague support predicted the use of an avoiding style, whereas workload, time demands, job security, feedback and colleague support predict the use of the integrating style. Time demands and payment predicted the use of the obliging style, while workload, crisis management and payment predicted the use of the dominating style. The compromising style was predicted by colleague support. It seems from the findings that conflict is frequently predicted by time demands.  相似文献

A simple surgical procedure is described that makes it possible to deliver liquids directly into the mouth of a freely mobile rat. Data presented show that an 8% sucrose solution delivered by this technique is an effective reinforcer in a variety of simple and discriminative schedules of reinforcement.  相似文献

An experiment was carried out to determine whether attempts to change values would be less successful under conditions of confrontation with a significant other than under conditions of private self-confrontation. Rokeach's value change procedure was used to induce self-dissatisfaction in two experimcntal groups, one under anonymous conditions and the other under non-anonymous, face-to-face interaction with the experimenter. The rcsults confirm previously reported findings that significant long-term changes in values can be brought about by inducing feelings of self-dissatisfaction about contradictions within one's value-attitude system. The findings also showed that changes in equality and freedom 8 to 9 weeks after the experiment were equally great under both anonymous and non-anonymous conditions compared with a control condition. The results are discussed especially in relation to their practical implications for psychotherapy.  相似文献

A forced-choice test was constructed to determine how well students could discriminate between occupations on the basis of the average intelligence of the members of the various occupational groups. At the outset, it was known that the prestige of the various occupations would have to be taken into account, and so the 72 forced-choice test items were systematically constructed to represent 24 combinations of intelligence and prestige differences. Accuracy at identifying the occupation with the higher average intelligence was significantly worse than chance, because subjects relied exclusively on prestige to make their choices. On items where the intelligence difference opposed the prestige difference, subjects could have improved their accuracy by flipping coins. The factors leading to significantly worse than chance accuracy, and the potency of prestige, are discussed.  相似文献
