In the present study, we examined morphological decomposition of Basque compound words in a series of masked priming lexical decision experiments. In Experiment 1, Basque compound words could be briefly preceded by other compounds that shared either the first or second constituent, or by unrelated noncompound words. Results showed a significant priming effect for words that shared a constituent, independently of its position. In Experiment 2, compound words were preceded by other compound words that shared one of their constituents, but in a different lexeme position (e.g., the first constituent of the compound that acted as a prime was the second constituent of the compound that acted as a target). Results again showed a constituent priming effect (i.e., location in the string is not necessary for priming to occur). In Experiment 3, we demonstrated that these priming effects were not due to mere form overlap: pairs of noncompound words that shared either the beginning or the ending chunk did not produce a priming effect. Taken together, the present results converge with previous data on orthographic/morphological priming and provide evidence favouring early morphological decomposition. 相似文献

There is a large body of evidence suggesting that words learnt early in life are recognised and produced faster than words learnt later in life, even when other variables are controlled. This is known as the Age of Acquisition (AoA) effect. However, there is an aspect of AoA that requires research of a greater depth, namely the method of obtaining the AoA measures. In the majority of studies, adult participants were asked to estimate the age at which they learnt a given word. Morrison, Chappell, and Ellis (1997) proposed a new method for obtaining objective-AoA data. They asked children to name some objects, and the age at which a given word appeared with 75% or more frequency was considered the AoA of that word. Although this method is more valid than adult ratings, it has only rarely been used. The main aim of this work is to provide objective-AoA norms in Spanish for a set of 175 object names following the procedures used by Morrison et al. The relationships among objective-AoA, estimated-AoA, and other psycholinguistic variables (name-agreement, familiarity, visual complexity, word length, etc.) obtained from a previous study are also analysed. Finally, the similarity of objective- and estimated-AoA measures was examined using data from several languages. A cluster analysis and a multidimensional-scaling analysis revealed that the estimated-AoA measures in a language correlated more with the estimated-AoA measures of the other languages than with the objective measures in the same language. The results suggest that it would be desirable to always use objective-AoA norms because they are less skewed by familiarity. 相似文献

The psychotherapy field has been paying closer attention to how therapists’ characteristics, history, and styles affect therapeutic encounters and contribute to successful therapy outcomes. Therapists have been encouraged to increase self-awareness of their own socio-cultural dimensions to optimally connect with clients. However, the experience of therapists’ own immigration has received little attention. This article highlights the experience of immigration as important for understanding the self of the therapist, describing core experiences related to immigration for immigrant therapists in the United States. This article additionally describes how these experiences can affect immigrant therapists’ clinical encounters. Finally, recommendations are provided for immigrant therapists, clinical supervisors, and training programs. 相似文献

Instances of sustained cooperative behaviour in humans can be considered as an adaptive strategy that enhances the probability of reaching a goal. This study investigates psychophysiological responses to cooperation in healthy subjects, while considering outcome and gender as potential moderators of these responses. Salivary cortisol levels (Csal), heart rate (HR), skin conductance level (SCL), nonspecific skin conductance responses (NSRs), and mood states were measured at different points before, during and after a Lego house‐building task in undergraduate men (n = 22) and women (n = 20). Once the task was finished, the experimenter informed the participants about the outcome obtained (positive or negative). Cooperation produces an increase in HR, SCL, and NSR responses. When the outcome is positive it produces a gradual diminution in Csal levels, but when the outcome is negative there is a significant increase in Csal levels after the task followed by a progressive decrease. Men with positive outcomes showed a lower area under curve (AUC) in Csal than women with a negative outcome. Men had more NSR responses in all periods other than the rest period. Several mood states are differently affected by the combined effect of outcome and gender. Our laboratory results can be generalized to other situations in which negotiation, mediation, and cooperative strategies are relevant for taking decisions and/or solving problems. 相似文献

This paper presents a historical overview of the Interamerican Society of Psychology, which was founded on December 17, 1951, in Mexico City. Firstly, the historical circumstances of the foundation period are presented, as well as the people who made this organization possible, and the state of psychology on the American continent at that time. Secondly, the most important activities that the Interamerican Society of Psychology has developed during its 60 years are mentioned, such as the publication of books and scientific journals, the creation of several task forces and the Interamerican Congresses of Psychology. Learning can be portrayed as a movement in a state space. Potential-based explanations of such movements hold that learners use a gradient-descent process to minimize a potential function. Direct explanations hold that learning is specific to information for learning. This study contrasts specific hypotheses derived from these general approaches. Participants estimated the length of arrow shafts of Müller-Lyer displays. Experiment 1 shows that learning in this paradigm can indeed be portrayed as a movement in a state space. In Experiment 2 nonveridical feedback was used in such a way that the contrasted hypotheses predicted learning in opposite directions. No learning was observed. In Experiment 3, movements in the state space were observed with practice conditions in which one of the hypotheses specified a movement in the state space whereas the other did not specify any movement. A tentative explanation for these findings is that both hypotheses are partly correct. However, more than to the empirical findings for this particular task, the authors wish to draw attention to the distinction between potential-based and direct processes—a distinction that they consider of general importance for the understanding of learning. 相似文献

Background and Objectives: Workplace bullying has been classified as an extreme social stressor in work contexts and has been repeatedly linked to several negative consequences. However, little research has examined reversed or reciprocal relations of bullying and outcomes. Design: We conducted a two-wave longitudinal study with a time lag of six months. Methods: The study sample consisted of 348 employees of the Spanish workforce. The present study examined longitudinal relationships between workplace bullying, psychological health, and well-being. On the basis of conservation of resources theory, we hypothesized that we would find reciprocal relations among study variables over time. Results: Results of cross-lagged structural equation modeling analyses supported our hypotheses. Specifically, it was found that Time 1 (T1) workplace bullying was negatively related to Time 2 (T2) vigor and positively related to T2 anxiety. Additionally, T1 anxiety and vigor had an effect on T2 workplace bullying. Conclusions: Overall, these findings support the validity of the theoretical models postulating a reciprocal bullying–outcome relationship, rather than simple one-way causal pathways approaches. 相似文献

ABSTRACT Understanding visitors' agendas is important in providing insights about learning experiences in informal settings, particularly if we consider learning to be both a product (what they learn) and a process (how they learn it). Accordingly, a handful of studies have investigated the impact of visitors' agendas on learning. However, little attention has been directed to investigating the impact of individual and collective agendas on the nature of the visit experience for the adult members of family groups, or the dynamics and evolution of these agendas during and after a visit to an informal setting. This article examines the roles that personal agendas play in shaping and framing the aquarium experiences of the adult members of 13 family groups visiting the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre in Canada. It explores the dynamic and changing character of entry and emergent agendas within the family group context and the factors that constitute and shape such agendas. The roles of these agendas in the overall on-site learning experience of the adult members of the participating family groups, and the longitudinal impact of the aquarium visit are further discussed. 相似文献
