Young, middle-aged, and older raters (N=154) evaluated 1,026 prototypical facial poses of neutrality, happiness, anger, disgust, fear, and sadness stemming from 171 young, middle-aged, and older posers. The majority of poses were rated as multi-faceted, that is, to comprise several expressions of varying intensities. Consistent with the notion of age-related increases in negativity–avoidance/positivity effects, crossed-random effects analyses showed an age-related decrease in the attributions of negative, but not positive and neutral, target expressions (that the poser intended to show), and an age-related increase in the attributions of positive and neutral, but not negative, non-target expressions (that the posers did not intend to show). Expressions were more difficult to read the older the posers, particularly for male posers. These age-of-poser effects were independent of the valence of the expression, but partly differed across age groups of raters. The study supports the idea of multi-dimensionality and age-dependency of emotion perception. 相似文献

Private branding is considered one of the most effective and efficient influencers of retailers’ return on investment in their fiercely competitive industry. However, no study to date has examined these brands’ impact on salespeople's motivation and commitment to their own employer. This study, based upon extensive qualitative and quantitative research, shows that salespeople's relationships with their private brands can be influential in increasing their selling motivation and organizational commitment. Toward this end, our study first identifies the three important dimensions of salesperson–brand relationship (affect, trust, perceived customer recognition due to the brand) and develops their measures. Second, the findings show that salesperson–brand relationships, which exist between the retail frontline employees and retailers’ private brand, strongly influence sales motivation and firm commitment with a moderating influence of role clarity regarding management's expectations from its salespeople. 相似文献

Although research indicates that making progress on personal work goals predicts positive job attitudes, little is known about the role of conscientiousness in moderating this relationship. Congruence theories suggest that job attitudes will be more dependent on goal progress when employees are high in conscientiousness, whereas compensation theories suggest the opposite. We test these competing hypotheses in a three-wave, 4-month longitudinal panel study of 121 trainee teachers, who are at their early stages of career development. Conscientiousness moderated the relationships between progress on personal work goals and job attitudes according to the compensatory pattern, such that employees displayed stronger increases in job satisfaction and affective organizational commitment in response to goal progress when they were low rather than high in conscientiousness. Our results help to resolve conflicting findings about the relationship between goal progress and job attitudes and adjudicate competing hypotheses about the role of conscientiousness in moderating this relationship. 相似文献

Fixpoint semantics are provided for ambiguity blocking and propagating variants of Nute’s defeasible logic. The semantics
are based upon the well-founded semantics for logic programs. It is shown that the logics are sound with respect to their
counterpart semantics and complete for locally finite theories. Unlike some other nonmonotonic reasoning formalisms such as
Reiter’s default logic, the two defeasible logics are directly skeptical and so reject floating conclusions. For defeasible
theories with transitive priorities on defeasible rules, the logics are shown to satisfy versions of Cut and Cautious Monotony.
For theories with either conflict sets closed under strict rules or strict rules closed under transposition, a form of Consistency
Preservation is shown to hold. The differences between the two logics and other variants of defeasible logic—specifically

In four experiments, the impact of concreteness of language on judgments of truth was examined. In Experiments 1 and 2, it was found that statements of the very same content were judged as more probably true when they were written in concrete language than when they were written in abstract language. Findings of Experiment 2 also showed that this linguistic concreteness effect on judgments of truth could most likely be attributed to greater perceived vividness of concrete compared to abstract statements. Two further experiments demonstrated an additional fit effect: The truth advantage of concrete statements occurred especially when participants were primed with a concrete (vs. abstract) mind-set (Experiment 3) or when the statements were presented in a spatially proximal (vs. distant) location (Experiment 4). Children’s emergent language develops in a rich context of varied influences afforded by their familial and social environments.
Using data collected during a longitudinal prospective service project, this study examined the direct and indirect contributions
of parenting knowledge and practices and maternal postnatal depression on emergent language competencies of 198 very young
children in high-risk Latino and African/American families in an urban area. The study used the Knowledge of Infant Development
Inventory, a constructed measure of risky parenting practices for child well-health, home-safety, and corporal discipline,
a constructed measure for children’s involvement in literacy oriented activities, Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, and
MacArthur Communicative Development Inventories to build and test a structural equation model with AMOS/SPSS 16. The results
provide support for a mediated path model. Parenting knowledge and maternal postnatal depressive symptoms interacted directly
and indirectly in influencing risky parental practices and children’s exposure in literacy oriented stimulation activities
and emergent language. Children’s involvement in stimulation activities mediated the effects of parenting and maternal mental
health and directly predicted a robust amount children’s emergent vocabulary. The model produced similar results for boys
and girls, although boys had poorer outcomes. These findings provide empirical evidence that clinical practice and policy
efforts are needed for reducing maternal postnatal depression in strengthening parenting efforts and in affording meaningful
parent–child interactions and for assuring that children receive adequate exposure to activities that promote language development.

This article provides a quantitative review of the link between successful goal pursuit and subjective well-being (SWB). The meta-analysis integrates the findings of 108 independent samples derived from 85 studies. Results revealed a significant association between successful goal striving and SWB (ρ = .43). Moderator analyses showed that the association was larger when (a) successful goal pursuit was defined as goal progress, instead of goal attainment, when (b) SWB was measured as SWB (positive indicators), instead of ill-being (negative indicators), when (c) the SWB measure matched the goal content, instead of lacked conceptual correspondence, and when (d) the data collection took place in an individualistic culture, instead of a collectivistic culture.
