In the first year of life, the ability to search for hidden objects is an indicator of object permanence and, when multiple locations are involved, executive function (i.e. inhibition, cognitive flexibility and working memory). The current study was designed to examine attentional predictors of search in 5‐month‐old infants (as measured by the looking A‐not‐B task), and whether levels of maternal education moderated the effect of the predictors. Specifically, in a separate task, the infants were shown a unique puppet, and we measured the percentage of time attending to the puppet, as well as the length of the longest look (i.e., peak fixation) directed towards the puppet. Across the entire sample (N = 390), the percentage of time attending to the puppet was positively related to performance on the visual A‐not‐B task. However, for infants whose mothers had not completed college, having a shorter peak looking time (after controlling for percentage of time) was also a predictor of visual A‐not‐B performance. The State of Dyadic Methodology: An Analysis of the Literature on Interventions for Military Couples
ABSTRACTMilitary members and their spouses experience unique stressors compared with civilian couples, making them distinctively vulnerable to a number of marital and mental health concerns. However, the amount and quality of intervention research to guide treatment for military couples are unknown. Therefore, a systematic literature search of interventions for military couples was completed resulting in 10 articles that met the study's inclusion and exclusion criteria. Further, a rubric to assess dyadic methodology was created and utilized to determine the dyadic quality of the methodology of the sampled articles. The results of the systematic literature review revealed that (a) there are few evidence-based interventions for military couples in which both members of the dyad are included and (b) the methodology by which treatments are evaluated largely do not employ systemic or dyadic measures. Recommendations for future research with military couples includes the need for couple-focused interventions using experimental methodology, systemic theories to guide intervention and research, and appropriate dyadic assessment and analysis tools to determine the effectiveness of couple's interventions for military, reserve, and veteran populations. 相似文献

Following Functional Communication Training (FCT), clinicians often gradually expose newly taught communicative responses to delayed reinforcement contingencies to prepare clients for the normative environment in which requests are frequently reinforced after a delay. The introduction of delays may result in the resurgence and maintenance of problem behavior and the weakening of the newly trained communicative response. The current study compared delay tolerance with three individuals diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities when reinforcement for the functional communication response (FCR) was delivered following (a) the passage of time, (b) the omission of problem behavior, or (c) the occurrence of an alternative behavior. We measured delay tolerance in terms of minimizing problem behavior and maintaining efficient FCRs. This study assessed the naturalistic conditions that set the occasion for aggressive behavior in three preschoolers with hyperactivity and aggression (H/A). Peer and teacher responses to preschoolers' aggression were also investigated. For a total of 114 aggressive instances observed, relatively low percentages of aggression in social play with at least one other child were documented. The antecedent condition that was most predictive of aggression was (a) when children were seeking to enter into an activity and were denied entry and (b) when another child interrupted an on-going activity. Aggression was about 14 times greater for seeking/interrupted activity than for ongoing social play. Finally, the percentage of negative responses from peers to aggression on the playground was almost three times the rate documented in past research for preschoolers without hyperactivity. 相似文献

The present study identified the bipolar principles that workers use for evaluating the fairness of a broad range of negative organizational events. Two hundred forty-eight respondents were asked to describe recent negative events that occurred in their organizations, and explain the reasons for their fairness perceptions of the events. The responses were coded to yield 5 principles associated with outcome fairness and 8 principles associated with process fairness; this set included principles not found in earlier taxonomies. Assessing Psychometric Properties of the Sex-Role Egalitarianism Scale (SRES) with African Americans
The Sex-Role Egalitarianism Scale (SRES) is an instrument reported to be both reliable and valid. SRES was normed primarily on a Caucasian population, and there is little research on its psychometric properties with other ethnic groups. SRES' abbreviated version (BB) was administered to 148 African American men and women. There were no significant differences found between the norming sample and the study's sample. However, significant differences were found between African American men and women at the .01 level with African American women having a more egalitarian attitude. Further research should administer the SRES to a larger, more heterogenous African American sample to further support the psychometric findings of this study. A single identified neuron, the medial type B photoreceptor, was isolated by axotomy from the nervous systems of nudibranch molluscs (Hermissenda) which had been exposed to three different training experiences. Paired animals had been trained with repeated paired presentations of light and rotation and random animals with randomized light and rotation; naive animals had no training. A two-microelectrode voltage clamp of axotomized type B somata (separated from all synaptic interactions and impulse activity) was used to measure, with a blind procedure, three distinct ionic currents at least 24 h after the training experience. An early K+ current, IA, and a Ca2+-dependent K+ current, ICa2+-K+, but not a light-induced inward Na+ current, were significantly reduced for the paired as compared to the random and naive animals. The magnitude of ICa2+-K+ reduction was related (again measured blindly) to the degree of training-induced suppression of phototaxis (a measure of the learned behavior) for the paired animals. These data are consistent with previous observations indicating that changes of intrinsic type B membrane properties are an important means for encoding the acquisition and retention of Hermissenda associative learning. 相似文献

Hermissenda crassicornis shows both short- and long-term retention of conditioning following light-rotation pairings. Previous research has shown that prolonged training (50 trials per session, three consecutive daily sessions) produces a suppression of phototaxis lasting for days. This long-term retention reflects associative learning processes, with little or no contribution of nonassociative learning. In contrast, both associative learning and nonassociative behavioral modification contribute to short-term retention following a single session of five pairing trials. In this paper, we describe important associative and nonassociative determinants of short-term changes in phototaxis. In Experiment 1, animals received successive hourly tests for phototaxis in either a horizontal or a vertical orientation. Repeated testing resulted in decreased phototaxis which was especially pronounced for animals tested horizontally. Experiments 2-4 demonstrated that both repeated handling of animals and repeated periods of dark adaptation prior to each phototaxic test contributed to the development of phototaxic suppression with repeated testing. These nonassociative influences on phototaxis interacted with the gravitational orientation employed during behavioral testing, being most pronounced for testing in the horizontal orientation. An implication of these findings is that attempts to demonstrate short-term pairing-specific suppression will be most successful when nonassociative contributions are minimized (by testing animals vertically). Experiment 5 tested this prediction. We also tested the influence of training light intensity and the stimulus specificity of conditioned suppression. Animals received either five paired or five random presentations of light and rotation. Training light intensity was either moderate or bright. Following training, animals were tested for either suppression of phototaxis or suppression of negative geotaxis, using either a horizontal or a vertical testing orientation. Consistent with previous results, horizontally tested animals exhibited pronounced nonassociative suppression following training. The use of a bright training light also produced nonassociative suppression. However, when trained with a light of moderate intensity and tested vertically, Hermissenda showed associative suppression of phototaxis (significant paired--random difference) but not geotaxis (no paired--random difference).
