Male habitually violent and impulsive offenders were studied by means of the glucose tolerance tests (GTTs) and insulin measurements. Both in intermittent explosive disorder and in violent antisocial personality, there was a tendency for there to be reactive hypoglycemia. There was a more rapid decline of glucose from hyperglycemia and more rapid return from hypoglycemia to the original basal values in intermittent explosive disorder than in violent antisocial personality. Consistent with this, the enhanced insulin secretion started rapidly but lasted a short time in intermittent explosive disorder.  相似文献

The effect of word frequency on the processing of monomorphemic vs. inflected words was investigated in a morphologically relatively limited language, Swedish, with two participant groups: early Finnish–Swedish bilinguals and Swedish monolinguals. The visual lexical decision results of the monolinguals suggest morphological decomposition with low-frequency inflected nouns, while with medium- and high-frequency inflections, full-form processing was apparently employed. The bilinguals demonstrated a similar pattern. The results suggest that morpheme-based recognition is employed even in a morphologically limited language when the inflectional forms occur rarely. With more frequent inflectional forms, full-form representations have developed for both mono- and bilingual speakers. In a comparable study employing a morphologically rich language, Finnish, Lehtonen and Laine (2003, Bilingualism: Language and Cognition, 6, 213–225) observed full-form access only at the high-frequency range and only for monolinguals. The purpose of this article is to consider the influence of Eastern Orthodox theology and spirituality, particularly soteriology, upon the Lutheran doctrine of salvation. It focuses on the emergence of a new interpretation of Martin Luther’s view of justification as union and Christ’s “real” presence in the believer through the Holy Spirit. This account materially reflects key intuitions of the Eastern Orthodox vision of deification (divinization, theosis) and was developed in Helsinki, Finland, under the tutelage of Tuomo Mannermaa and his school. Even though this new interpretation continues to be contested and debated, particularly in German Luther scholarship, it has also exercised wide influence on international theological discussion. The latter part of the article, more constructive in nature, seeks to link the Helsinki School insights to some other current Lutheran contributions as well as relevant viewpoints from the wider Christian West.  相似文献

Developmental studies have demonstrated that cognitive processes such as attention, suppression of interference and memory develop throughout childhood and adolescence. However, little is currently known about the development of top-down control mechanisms and their influence on cognitive performance. In the present study, we used functional magnetic resonance imaging to investigate modulation of activity in the ventral visual cortex in healthy 7–11-year-old children and young adults. The participants performed tasks that required attention to either face (Fs task) or scene (Sf task) images while trying to ignore distracting scene or face images, respectively. A face-selective area in the fusiform gyrus (fusiform face area, FFA) and an area responding preferentially to scene images in the parahippocampal gyrus (parahippocampal place area, PPA) were defined using functional localizers. Children responded slower and less accurately in the tasks than adults. In children, the right FFA was less selective to face images and regulation of activity between the Fs and Sf tasks was weaker compared to adults. In the PPA, selectivity to scenes and regulation of activity, there according to the task demands were comparable between children and adults. During the tasks, children activated prefrontal cortical areas including the middle (MFG) and superior (SFG) frontal gyrus more than adults. Functional connectivity between the right FFA and left MFG was stronger in adults than children in the Fs task. Children, on the other hand, had stronger functional connectivity than adults in the Sf task between the right FFA and right PPA and between right MFG and medial SFG. There were no group differences in the functional connectivity between the PPA and the prefrontal cortex (PFC). Together the results suggest that, in 7–11-year-old children, the FFA is still immature, whereas the selectivity to scenes and regulation of activity in the PPA is comparable to adults. The results also indicated functional immaturity of the PFC in children compared to adults and weaker connectivity between the PFC and the rFFA, explaining the weaker regulation of activity in the rFFA between the Fs and Sf tasks.  相似文献

There has been considerable discussion by those involved in teaching children with special educational needs (SENs) about how to appropriately categorize children with difficulties in learning. Increasingly, a social inclusion model of SEN has come to the fore in mainstream schools across the developed world. Asperger's Syndrome (AS), however, has presented a challenge to inclusionary approaches. This paper, based on the experiences of a teacher working with a child with AS in the mainstream classroom, explores the role of emotions in relation to the obsessional interests of children with AS. Particular reference is paid to the work of later object relations theorists on the emotional role of rigid patterns of thinking, behaviour and obsessional interest in AS. The possibility that an implicit deficit model may at times be relevant to the development of ‘live’ communication and learning for children with AS in the mainstream classroom is considered. Possible management strategies in the classroom in relation to obsessive interests are discussed.  相似文献

Most training programmes in individual psychotherapy, including psychoanalytic training are, in practice, restricted to the treatmentof lessdisturbed patients than those who have succumbed to psychotic or severely borderline-level disorders. This has had a delaying effect on the development of psychotherapy with such patients. Psychotherapy of severely disturbed patients is usually regarded as a difficult domain and is often practised only by psychoanalysts or other psychotherapists specially dedicated to working with patients of this kind. Between 1994 and 1997, an advanced multi-professional training programme in psychodynamic individual therapy with an emphasis on borderline and psychotic-level disorders was organized through the Centre for Extension Studies of the University of Turku, Finland, to close the gap in systematic training for the treatment of the most serious psychic disorders, and also to integrate some of the special requirements of public and private psychiatric health care. Here we briefly describe the main elements of our training programme as well as some of our training experiences. It is important to emphasize that the training was not meant to replace psychoanalytic training. It is a question of a separate multi-professional programme based on psychoanalytic premises but with particular objectives of its own.  相似文献
