Although prior research has examined predictions of memory performance under conditions of interference at encoding, predictions
of memory performance have not been examined for interference introduced via cues at retrieval. This was investigated in the
present study by exposing participants to a random subset of to-be-recalled items just prior to retrieval (part-set cuing)
and then eliciting an overall prediction of memory performance. Across three experiments, participants in part-set cuing conditions
recalled proportionally fewer items than did participants who were not exposed to any cues. However, participants were unable
to predict the detrimental effect of part-set cues on memory performance in either a semantic (Experiment 1) or an episodic
(Experiment 2) memory task. Predictions were better calibrated after practice with part-set cuing, and there was evidence
that prior experience with part-set cuing transferred to predictions made for a different part-set cuing task (Experiment
3). This suggests that only under some conditions are participants sensitive to the diminished accessibility of memories wrought
by part-set cues and illustrates situations in which participants are or are not aware of variables at retrieval that influence

Four studies indicate that mortality salience increases adherence to social norms and values, but only when cultural norms and values are salient. In Study 1, mortality salience coupled with a reminder about cultural values of egalitarianism reduced prejudice toward Blacks among non-Black participants. In Studies 2 through 4, a mortality salience induction (e.g., walking through a cemetery) increased self-reported and actual helping behavior only when the cultural value of helping was salient. Our research examines whether intersecting racial and gender identities affect person perception. Predominantly White undergraduates (292) from a large northeastern U.S. university categorized and rated pictures (Study 1) and videos (Study 2) of Black and White men and women. We supported three hypotheses: 1) intersectionality affects person perception processes, leading to gender categorization errors for Black women; 2) “Blackness” and “maleness” are highly associated for Black male and female targets; and, 3) women are perceived as unattractive proportionally to their perceived masculinity, leading Black women to be rated as less attractive than other women. We suggest that intersectional approaches are required in order to fully understand person perception. Further, the Black/male association may lead to unique harms for Black women. 相似文献

There is a small but growing literature on the perception of natural acoustic events, but few attempts have been made to investigate complex sounds not systematically controlled within a laboratory setting. The present study investigates listeners’ ability to make judgments about the posture (upright—stooped) of the walker who generated acoustic stimuli contrasted on each trial. We use a comprehensive three-stage approach to event perception, in which we develop a solid understanding of the source event and its sound properties, as well as the relationships between these two event stages. Developing this understanding helps both to identify the limitations of common statistical procedures and to develop effective new procedures for investigating not only the two information stages above, but also the decision strategies employed by listeners in making source judgments from sound. The result is a comprehensive, ultimately logical, but not necessarily expected picture of both the source—sound—perception loop and the utility of alternative research tools. 相似文献

Using performance feedback to enhance implementation fidelity of the problem-solving team process 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Implementation integrity is a potentially critical issue for problem-solving teams (PST) and most response-to-intervention models. The current study hypothesized that providing performance feedback, which has consistently been shown to increase implementation integrity, to PSTs would enhance the procedural integrity of the process. The PSTs for three elementary schools were provided performance feedback with a 20-item checklist created from the literature. A multiple-baseline design across schools revealed an immediate change in level after providing performance feedback. The resulting percentages of non-overlapping data were 90.9%, 90.0%, and 100%. However, PSTs still did not monitor student progress, assess the effectiveness of the intervention, or measure the integrity with which the intervention was implemented even after receiving feedback. Thus, providing performance feedback could be a method to increase the fidelity with which critical components of data-based problem-solving are implemented, but these data suggest the need for additional research. 相似文献

The primary auditory cortex is now known to be involved in learning and memory, as well as auditory perception. For example, spectral tuning often shifts toward or to the frequency of the conditioned stimulus during associative learning. As previous research has focused on tonal frequency, less is known about how learning might alter temporal parameters of response in the auditory cortex. This study addressed the effects of learning on the fidelity of temporal processing. Adult male rats were trained to avoid shock that was signaled by an 8.0 kHz tone. A novel control group received non-contingent tone and shock with shock probability decreasing over days to match the reduced number of shocks received by the avoidance group as they mastered the task. An untrained (nai ve) group served as a baseline. Following training, neuronal responses to white noise and a broad spectrum of tones were determined across the primary auditory cortex in a terminal experiment with subjects under general anesthesia. Avoidance conditioning significantly improved the precision of spike-timing: the coefficient of variation of 1st spike latency was significantly reduced in avoidance animals compared to controls and nai ves, both for tones and for noise. Additionally, avoidance learning was accompanied by a reduction of the latency of peak response, by 2.0-2.5 ms relative to nai ves and approximately 1.0 ms relative to controls. The shock-matched controls also exhibited significantly shorter peak latency of response than nai ves, demonstrating the importance of this non-avoidance control. Plasticity of temporal processing showed no evidence of frequency specificity and developed independently of the non-temporal parameters magnitude of response, frequency tuning and neural threshold, none of which were facilitated. The facilitation of temporal processing suggests that avoidance learning may increase synaptic strength either within the auditory cortex, in the subcortical auditory system, or both. 相似文献

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 allows schools to use a child's response to research-based intervention (RTI) as a part of procedures to identify students with learning disabilities. This paper considers whether RTI-based assessment models meet ethical and legal standards for acceptable assessment practices. Based on a review of available research, it was concluded that RTI-based assessment practices, when carefully crafted and implemented, have the potential to be multifaceted, fair, valid, and useful. Threats to acceptable RTI-based assessment practices include: the lack of research-based interventions appropriate for diverse academic domains, ethnic groups, grades K-12, and students with limited English proficiency; uncertainty regarding how to determine when nonresponse to intervention warrants formal referral for evaluation of special education eligibility; difficulty translating scientifically sound RTI practices to the local school level; and inadequate staff training and poor treatment fidelity. Organizational researchers during the past few decades have increasingly focused on the role of subjective work issues and
their impact on important worker-related outcomes. One of the most prominently studied factors, perceptions of organizational
politics, has received much recent conceptual and empirical attention. In an effort to better understand the relationship
between perceptions of organizational politics and key outcomes, we apply meta-analysis on 79 independent samples from 59
published and unpublished studies involving 25,059 individual participants. Results indicate strong negative relationships
between POP and job satisfaction and between POP and organizational commitment, moderately positive relationships between
POP and the outcomes of job stress and turnover intentions, and a non-significant relationship between POP and in-role job
performance. Moderator tests show that age, work setting (i.e., public sector or private sector), and cultural differences
(i.e., domestic sample or international sample), have contingent effects on certain POP relationships. 相似文献
