Acetylcholine release was measured simultaneously in the hippocampus and dorsal striatum of rats before and during training on a maze that could be learned using either a hippocampus-dependent spatial strategy or a dorsal striatum-dependent turning strategy. A probe trial administered after rats reached a criterion of 9/10 correct responses revealed that about half of the rats used a spatial strategy and half a turning strategy to solve the task. Acetylcholine release in the hippocampus, as well as the ratio of acetylcholine release in the hippocampus vs. the dorsal striatum, measured either before or during training, predicted these individual differences in strategy selection during learning. These findings suggest that differences in release of acetylcholine across brain areas may provide a neurobiological marker of individual differences in selection of the strategies rats use to solve a learning task. 相似文献

An all-male sexual assault peer education program focusing on how to help a survivor led to a decrease in rape myth belief
among predominantly Caucasian participants immediately after and two months following a one hour program. Program participants
believed fewer rape myths than the initial testing of a control group. In addition, a clear majority of participants reported
a decreased likelihood of being sexually coercive as a result of attending the program. A new method of decreasing men’s rape
myth acceptance by learning how to help a survivor is supported. 相似文献

An experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of reading about AIDS on fear of AIDS, knowledge of AIDS, and homophobia. Introductory psychology students read one of three magazine articles: one stressing the low likelihood of contracting AIDS through casual contact (reassuring article), one stressing the high likelihood of contracting AIDS through casual contact (alarming article), or a control article that did not mention AIDS. Compared to the control group, subjects who read the reassuring article were lower in fear of AIDS, whereas subjects who read the alarming article were higher; the articles had no effect on knowledge of AIDS or homophobia. In addition, subjects were classified on the basis of their cognitive coping style (high vs. low monitors) and sex. High monitors tended to be more fearful of AIDS but were neither better informed about AIDS nor more homophobic than low monitors. Men were more fearful of AIDS and more homophobic than women. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe process of acquiring beliefs – including the belief that there is no God–is largely implicit. We propose that psychological factors that function largely outside of conscious awareness make different conscious reasons for nonbelief more plausible to different people. The present study focuses on intellectual humility, tolerance of ambiguity and attachment and how they relate to stated reasons for nonbelief. The survey was distributed online to an international network of over 100 atheist, secular, and freethought organisations. As predicted, emotional reasons for nonbelief were positively related to anxious attachment, and intellectual reasons for nonbelief were inversely related to tolerance of ambiguity. We did not find evidence for our hypotheses that intellectual reasons for belief would be related to intellectual humility, or that uncertainty reasons would be related to tolerance of ambiguity, intellectual humility, and avoidant attachment. We unexpectedly found that early socialisation reasons for nonbelief were negatively related to intellectual humility. 相似文献

We examined the associations between mental disorders and suicidal behavior (ideation, plans, and attempts) among new soldiers using data from the New Soldier Study (NSS) component of the Army Study to Assess Risk and Resilience in Servicemembers (Army STARRS; N = 38,507). Most new soldiers with a pre‐enlistment history of suicide attempt reported a prior mental disorder (59.0%). Each disorder examined was associated with increased odds of suicidal behavior (ORs = 2.6–8.6). Only PTSD and disorders characterized by irritability and impulsive/aggressive behavior (i.e., bipolar disorder, conduct disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder) predicted unplanned attempts among ideators. Mental disorders are important predictors of pre‐enlistment suicidal behavior among new soldiers and should figure prominently in suicide screening and prevention efforts. 相似文献

Little is known about how people comprehend mathematical expressions. In the present study we investigate the internal representations used by experienced users of mathematics to encode algebraic expressions. Initially, a memory recognition task was conducted that examined the role of mathematical syntax in the encoding of algebraic expressions. The results indicate that participants could more readily identify those parts of a previously seen expression that were syntactically well formed than those that were not well formed, suggesting that syntax plays an important role. To determine the level of syntactic structure involved, a second recognition task was conducted. The results indicate that algebraic expressions are encoded into components that represent the phrasal constituents of the expression. However, the results of these experiments did not rule out the possibility that the visual processes of perceptual organization were used to encode the expressions, or that the data were a consequence of a mathematical “lexicon” of common mathematical “phrases”. Three further experiments were conducted to examine this, the results of which indicate that the encoding of algebraic expressions is based primarily on processes that occur beyond the level of visual or “lexical” processing. This is consistent with our finding that syntactic structure plays a key role. 相似文献
