The present study investigated how European adolescents cope with perceived future-related stress. Altogether 3,154 adolescents
(mean age of 15 years) from four countries (n = 1,071 Italians, n = 1,433 Germans, n = 308 French, and n = 341 British) participated in the study. They completed the Problem Questionnaire, which assesses future-related stress,
and the CASQ, which assesses how three coping styles (active coping, internal coping, and withdrawal) are used to deal with
future-related stress. German and British adolescents showed low levels of stress, whereas French and Italian adolescents
had high levels. All adolescents anticipated future-related problems but did not portray their futures negatively. In addition,
they dealt with future-related stress actively and showed high levels of coping competence. Adolescents used active coping
strategies most frequently, followed by thinking about possible solutions. Dysfunctional coping strategies (e.g., withdrawal)
were used much less often. The effects of age, gender, and family variables on stress perception and coping style were negligible.
Overall, our findings highlight the tenets of positive psychology by revealing that adolescents are concerned about their
futures and that they show high agency in dealing with future-related problems. Further, the findings are relevant for positive
youth development programs, especially those which endorse positive orientation to the future and coping competence. 相似文献

This study examined the relationship between PMS and emotion-related electromyographic facial activity at different phases of the menstrual cycle. Twenty-four women of reproductive age (12 with PMS, 12 controls) participated in two EMG sessions (T1 and T2) in which they were shown photographic images that can elicit various emotions (IAPS stimuli). T1 took place in the follicular phase, T2 in the luteal phase. The activity of the musculus depressor anguli oris ("depressor", expression of sadness) was measured. Depressor activity was compared to activity of musculus orbicularis oculi ("orbicularis"; expression of joy). ANOVA yielded a significant increase of the activity of the depressor at T2 in the PMS group. The PMS group showed more frequent depressor activity during the luteal than the follicular phase. Orbicularis activity did not change from T1 to T2. Conclusions: The PMS group experienced various visual stimuli in a more depressed way during the luteal phase. 相似文献

Dimensionality of the widely used Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) was investigated in a sample of 153 seventh-grade Asian
students from Singapore. Confirmatory factor analyses performed on the scores of the RSES revealed two factors (positive and
negative self-esteem) as hypothesized. Both factors were empirically related to different external variables. Results from
multiple regression analyses indicated that positive self-esteem significantly predicted students’ mastery goal orientation
and academic self-efficacy scores while negative self-esteem significantly predicted students’ disruptive behavior. These
findings provide some preliminary support that the two factors could possibly be measuring substantively distinct dimensions,
thus calling into question the unidimensionalty of the RSES in an Asian school-based sample.

Since Freud formulated the death instinct concept, it has received widely diverse interpretations. Even Freud advanced two versions. The concomitant analyses of two films, Ai no corrida (1976) [ In the realm of the senses (1977)] and Broken flowers (2005) evince Thanatos's two faces: the cold death of decathexis of an object, in the case of Don (in Broken flowers) and the hot death of the subject‐object fusion in Sada's case ( Ai no corrida). In our analysis, we elaborate two possible vicissitudes of the death instinct: in Broken flowers, the main character finds an ‘analyst’ and is cured. Although rationing by clinical judgment is controversial, its acceptability partly depends on how it is practiced. In this paper, rationing by clinical judgment is defined in three different circumstances that represent increasingly wider circles of resource pools in which the rationing decision takes place: triage during acute shortage, comparison to other potential patients in a context of limited but not immediately strained resources, and determination of whether expected benefit of an intervention is deemed sufficient to warrant its cost by reference to published population based thresholds. Notions of procedural justice are applied along with an analytical framework of six minimal requisites in order to facilitate fair bedside rationing: (1) a closed system that offers reciprocity, (2) attention to general concerns of justice, (3) respect for individual variations, (4) application of a consistent process, (5) explicitness, and (6) review of decisions. This article examines the interface between motivation and choice. In category learning, a regulatory fit has been shown to
increase exploration of alternative response strategies even when exploration is suboptimal. In the present study, promotion-
and prevention-focused subjects performed a choice task that required them to choose from one of two decks of cards on each
trial. They either gained or lost points with each draw. In Experiment 1, optimal performance required an exploratory response
pattern that entailed sampling from a deck that initially appeared disadvantageous but ultimately became advantageous. In
Experiment 2, optimal performance required an exploitative response pattern. A softmax action selection model that includes
an exploitation parameter was applied to each subject’s data from both experiments and revealed greater exploration of alternative
strategies for people with a regulatory fit. This response strategy was optimal in Experiment 1 and led to superior performance,
but was suboptimal in Experiment 2 and led to inferior performance. 相似文献

Previous work in our laboratory demonstrated that galantamine, a cholinesterase inhibitor and weak cholinergic agonist, facilitated classical trace eyeblink conditioning in healthy, young rabbits [Simon, B. B., Knuckley, B., & Powell, D. A. (2004). Galantamine facilitates acquisition of a trace-conditioned eyeblink response in healthy, young rabbits. Learning & Memory, 11(1), 116-122.]. The current study investigated the effects of galantamine (0.0 or 3.0mg/kg) in rabbits sustaining knife-cut lesions to the fimbria-fornix, a major projection pathway connecting the hippocampus to cortical and subcortical brain structures involved in the formation of long-term memories. Two experiments were conducted. Experiment one assessed the effects of knife-cut lesions to the fornix or sham surgeries on trace eyeblink (EB) conditioning. Results indicate that fornix lesions significantly retarded EB conditioning when trace parameters were employed. Experiment 2 assessed whether treatment with galantamine would reverse the deficits caused by fornix damage. Results indicate that 3.0mg/kg GAL reversed trace EB conditioning deficits in animals with fornix knife-cut lesions. These findings suggest that galantamine may provide benefit in the reversal of cognitive dysfunction following certain types of brain damage, especially damage involving hippocampal structures. 相似文献

Category learning theorists tacitly assume that stimuli are encoded by a single pathway. Motivated by theories of object recognition,
we evaluated a dual-pathway account of stimulus encoding. The part-based pathway establishes mappings between sensory input
and symbols that encode discrete stimulus features, whereas the image-based pathway applies holistic templates to sensory
input. Our experiments used rule-plus-exception structures, in which one exception item in each category violates a salient
regularity and must be distinguished from other items. In Experiment 1, we found discrete representations to be crucial for
recognition of exceptions following brief training. Experiments 2 and 3 involved multisession training regimens designed to
encourage either part- or image-based encoding. We found that both pathways are able to support exception encoding, but have
unique characteristics. We speculate that one advantage of the part-based pathway is the ability to generalize across domains,
whereas the image-based pathway provides faster and more effortless recognition. 相似文献

Previous research (Markman, Maddox, & Worthy, 2006) suggests that pressure leads to choking when one is learning to classify
items on the basis of an explicit rule, but it leads to excelling when one is learning to classify items on the basis of an
implicit strategy. In this article, we relate social pressure to regulatory focus theory. We propose that the effects of pressure
on performance arise because pressure induces a prevention focus that interacts with the more local reward structure of the
task. To test this hypothesis, we repeated previous research, but using a losses reward structure, so that participants under
pressure were in a regulatory fit. We also successfully replicated previous results by using a gains reward structure. In
contrast with participants who attempted to maximize gains on each trial, participants who attempted to minimize losses choked
on the implicit-learning task but excelled on the explicit-learning task. The results suggest a three-way interaction between
pressure level, task type, and reward structure. 相似文献

The role of verbal and visuospatial working memory in rule-based and information-integration category learning was examined. Previously, Maddox, Ashby, Ing, and Pickering found that a sequentially presented verbal working memory task did not affect information-integration learning, but disrupted rule-based learning when the rule was on the spatial frequency of a Gabor stimulus. This pattern was replicated in Experiment 1, in which the same category structures were used, but in which the verbal working memory task was replaced with a visuospatial analog. Experiment 2A examined rule-based learning on an oblique orientation and also found both verbal and visuospatial working memory tasks disrupting learning. Experiment 2B examined rule-based learning on a cardinal orientation and found a minimal effect of the verbal working memory task, but a large effect of the visuospatial working memory task. The conceptual significance of cardinal orientations and the role of visuospatial and verbal working memory in category learning are discussed. 相似文献
