Many previous studies of object recognition have found view-dependent recognition performance when view changes are produced by rotating objects relative to a stationary viewing position. However, the assumption that an object rotation is equivalent to an observer viewpoint change ignores the potential contribution of extraretinal information that accompanies observer movement. In four experiments, we investigated the role of extraretinal information on real-world object recognition. As in previous studies focusing on the recognition of spatial layouts across view changes, observers performed better in an old/new object recognition task when view changes were caused by viewer movement than when they were caused by object rotation. This difference between viewpoint and orientation changes was due not to the visual background, but to the extraretinal information available during real observer movements. Models of object recognition need to consider other information available to an observer in addition to the retinal projection in order to fully understand object recognition in the real world. 相似文献

In the first study using point-light displays (lights corresponding to the joints of the human body) to examine children's understanding of verbs, 3-year-olds were tested to see if they could perceive familiar actions that corresponded to motion verbs (e.g., walking). Experiment 1 showed that children could extend familiar motion verbs (e.g., walking and dancing) to videotaped point-light actions shown in the intermodal preferential looking paradigm. Children watched the action that matched the requested verb significantly more than they watched the action that did not match the verb. In Experiment 2, the findings of Experiment 1 were validated by having children spontaneously produce verbs for these actions. The use of point-light displays may illuminate the factors that contribute to verb learning. 相似文献

This paper reports features of a distinctly post‐structuralist ‘outcome evaluation’ of a New Zealand stopping violence programme for men who have assaulted their spouses. Through analysis of pre‐ and post‐programme interviews it was found that the men's accounts of their violence shifted as a consequence of their participation in and exposure to the programme's discursive resources. Overall the men's accounts demonstrated movement towards taking greater ownership and responsibility for their actions. A ‘renaissance of the university’ in the European knowledge society is regarded today as a necessity. However, there is an
ongoing debate about what that renaissance should look like. The aim of this article is to take a closer look at these debates,
and in particular, the disputes related to the public role of the (future) university in the European knowledge society. The
aim however is not to assess the validity of the arguments of each of the protagonists but to place the discussion within
a broader socio-historical context. From a genealogical point of view, and drawing upon the work of Foucault and Hunter, it
is possible to distinguish two kinds of milieu, each embodying their own “intellectual technology” and each leading to a specific
conception of the public role of the university: firstly the principled milieu (with the persona of the academic as critical
intellectual), and secondly the governmental milieu (with the persona of the state official or governmental expert). From
this genealogical point of view, I will argue that the modern (research) university was from the very beginning a hybrid institution
due to the claims and scopes of both milieus. Furthermore, I will argue that the current discussions reveal the ongoing influence
of both milieus and their respective gazes and approaches.

Northern Ireland remains both one of the more religiously active and also one of the most religiously divided countries in
Europe. In this context 1,093 sixth-form pupils attending Protestant schools and 1,266 sixth-form pupils attending Catholic
schools (aged between 16 and 19 years) completed the abbreviated Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Revised (EPQR-A), as a
measure of psychological health, alongside the Francis Scale of Attitude toward Christainity (FSAC). The findings demonstrated
that a positive attitude toward Christianity was associated with neither higher nor lower neuroticism scores, but was associated
in both religious communities with lower psychoticism scores. There is no evidence, therefore, to associate a positive view
of Christianity with poorer levels of psychological health among adolescents in Northern Ireland, and some evidence to associate
a positive view of Christianity with better levels of psychological health. 相似文献
