In the current study, the authors used an immediate repetition paradigm with pictures to observe whether repetition enhances word production in bilinguals. In Experiment 1, participants were asked to name pictures that were named previously in the same language (Spanish-Spanish or English-English) or in the opposite language (Spanish-English or English-Spanish). Results revealed a repetition effect both within languages and between languages. Furthermore, there was an asymmetry within language, with repetition priming being larger in Spanish than in English. Experiments 2 and 3 revealed that lag interacted with language for both within- and between-language priming. However, lag resulted in a decrease in the asymmetry for within- but not between-language priming. The results are consistent with the view that within- and between-language repetition priming are mediated by different mechanisms. 相似文献

Attributes associated with concept representations, such as familiarity, typicality, and age of acquisition, have been shown
to be important influences on lexical-semantic processing. In most previous studies of healthy and pathological aging, these
attributes are not equated for younger and older adults separately on the stimuli used. In this study, normative data were
collected to test whether there exist any age differences in these attributes. The results demonstrate that the ratings given
by younger and older adults on natural and manmade category items correlated positively. However, age differences were also
apparent, whereby older adults provided higher ratings overall than younger adults. Suggestions and hypotheses are presented
to explain this pattern of age differences, which relate to how category concepts may be represented by healthy younger and
older adults. Also, the possible implications for these differential age ratings on lexical-semantic processing are discussed.
The age differences apparent in this study demonstrate the need to consider age-appropriate normative ratings in the selection
of stimuli for use in lexical-semantic processing studies of aging, and the normative data presented provide a means of equating

Two new procedures were employed to investigate the effects of semantic and grammatical gender on lexical access in Italian and to investigate the interaction of gender with other factors that are known to influence lexical access in other languages. The gender-monitoring task requires a conscious decision about the gender of each noun, whereas the word repetition task does not require explicit attention to gender. In both tasks, single words are presented out of context, under speeded conditions. Both procedures proved to be sensitive indices of word recognition, with reaction times that are closely tied to the point at which words can be uniquely identified (although some processing before and after the uniqueness point was seen). In both tasks, reaction times were strongly affected by phonological factors (e.g., length, number of syllables, and presence of frication on the initial consonant). Phonological transparency of gender marking had a reliable effect on gender monitoring but had no effect on word repetition, suggesting that explicit attention to gender may be a factor affecting utilization of this phonological cue. Semantic factors (including semantic gender) had no effect on performance. Frequency and age of acquisition had very small effects when other factors were controlled. Implications for current models of lexical access are discussed, with special reference to the role of gender. 相似文献

Researchers of this study questioned: Are clients (male or female) with self-reported “masculine” versus “feminine” role orientations viewed more favorably by counselors? Which is more predictive of the counselor's impressions: the client's gender or his or her sex role orientation? Results suggested that highly masculine and highly feminine clients (regardless of gender) are perceived as more socially skilled and likely to experience a positive therapeutic outcome. Gender did not uniquely predict counselors' impressions. Highly feminine women clients, however, were viewed as more socially skilled than were highly feminine men. Despite a growing body of empirical and theoretical work on the role of the school counsellor, little evidence is available about the attitudes of teachers themselves towards their counsellor colleagues. This paper reports some results of a study of teacher attitudes in eight comprehensive schools. This particular Latin Square has been subjected to criticism on the grounds there is confounding due to structure, random variables, and subject interactions. Special Latin Square, a subclass of the Sequences × Positions Latin Square, is basically ap ×p factorial design in blocks of sizep. The two factors are treatments (T) and positions (P). Sequence is one component of theTP interaction, and square uniqueness is the sum of the remaining components. This study outlined the development, implementation, and evaluation of an intervention strategy that was designed to improve the technical skill and performance of an international-level pole vaulter. Intervention, in the form of a prompting and shaping procedure, consisted of breaking a photoelectric beam with the hands at the moment of take-off.
