Eighty-six adults serially recalled lists of visually presented consonant letters similar in auditory or visual features or dissimilar in both feature sets. There were significantly more errors at every auditory list position than at the corresponding visual and neutral list positions, which did not themselves differ. There was a positive correlation between the tendency toward phonetic coding and overall performance, with 75 subjects making more errors on the auditory list than either of the other lists. The eight subjects who made more errors on the visual list showed poor performance in the recall of all lists. Factors governing the perceivability of stimuli apparently do not continue to operate significantly in controlling their recallability, at least in the case of veridical visual input. 相似文献

Discusses the process of observation and presents a systematic approach for incorporating behavioral observations into evaluations and written psychological reports. The approach is based on Robert Carkhuff's Human Resource Development Model, which combines the psychologist's attending and responding skills to explore where clients are, personalizing skills to understand where they need to be, and initiating skills to act on these goals. Using this framework and drawing on the experiences of the authors, several principles of report writing are discussed. The paper presents specific steps and skills which can be used to determine where a client is functioning in a variety of areas and to communicate this understanding to others. Synchronizing the display of a stimulus with physiological recording or subjects’ behavioral responses is crucial for acquiring
valid measures of performance. This article describes a technique for integrating the presentation of stimuli, behavior reports,
and physiological data employing Macromedia Director and a standard biometric program using an example from the field of developmental
psychopathology. Our experience has been that the use of this technique is effective in creating complex protocols for research.
Although the temporal accuracy available from this particular method is adequate for some experiments, it is not suited for

In previous studies of attentional focus effects, investigators have measured performance outcome. Here, however, the authors used electromyography (EMG) to determine whether difference between external and internal foci would also be manifested at the neuromuscular level. In 2 experiments, participants (N=11, Experiment 1; N=12, Experiment 2) performed biceps curls while focusing on the movements of the curl bar (external focus) or on their arms (internal focus). In Experiment 1, movements were performed faster under external than under internal focus conditions. Also, integrated EMG (iEMG) activity was reduced when performers adopted an external focus. In Experiment 2, movement time was controlled through the use of a metronome, and iEMG activity was again reduced under external focus conditions. Those findings are in line with the constrained action hypothesis (G. Wulf, N. McNevin, & C. H. Social comparison involves positioning the self relative to others on a vertical or status dimension (ranging from upward to downward comparisons) and a horizontal or solidarity dimension (ranging from contrastive to connective comparisons). Across 3 studies in which 389 undergraduates recorded everyday social comparisons (n = 4,417), downward and connective comparisons were rated as more helpful and mood enhancing than upward and contrastive comparisons. The effects of horizontal comparisons were greater for people for whom solidarity was an important value; however, the effects of vertical comparisons were not greater for people who valued status. The roles of the comparison target, topic, and situation were also explored; for example, noticing undesirable features of the target enhanced status but undermined solidarity. 相似文献

The purpose of this study, using an online methodology, was to investigate therapists' perceptions of the role of creativity in couples' and family therapy. Along with completing a quantitative measure assessing creativity in their work, participants responded to four open-ended questions which addressed the meaning of creativity, characteristics of a creative family therapist, some creative interventions they have used with couples and families, and barriers to their own creativity as a family therapist. A total of 142 marriage and family therapists in 36 states in the United States participated. The findings shed light on the unique importance of creativity in couples and family treatment. 相似文献
