Multidimensional assessment of coping: a critical evaluation   总被引:23,自引:0,他引:23  
Several existing self-report measures of coping and the relevant research using these instruments are reviewed. Many of these coping measures suffer from a variety of psychometric weaknesses. A self-report instrument, the Multidimensional Coping Inventory (MCI), was constructed that identifies 3 types of coping styles: task-oriented, emotion-oriented, and avoidance-oriented coping. Support for the multidimensional nature of the MCI is presented, along with support for the reliability of the MCI coping scales. Two studies are presented that assessed the validity of the MCI. The 1st study assessed the construct validity of the MCI by comparing it with the Ways of Coping Questionnaire. The 2nd study also assessed the criterion validity of the MCI by comparing it with measures of depression, anxiety, Type A behaviour, neuroticism, and extraversion. Overall, the results suggest that the MCI is a valid and highly reliable multidimensional measure of coping styles.  相似文献

Marks (1988) reported that when equal-loudness matches were inferred from magnitude estimates of loudness for tones of two different frequencies, the matches were affected by changes in the stimulus intensity range at both frequencies. Marks interpreted these results as reflecting the operation of response biases in the subjects' estimates; that is, the effect of range was to alter subjects' judgments but not necessarily the perception of loudness itself. We investigated this effect by having subjects choose which of two tone pairs defined the larger loudness interval. By using tones of two frequencies, and varying their respective intensity ranges, we reproduced Marks' result in a procedure devoid of numerical responses. When the tones at one frequency are all soft, but the tones at the other frequency are not all soft, cross-frequency loudness matches are different from those obtained with other intensity range combinations. This suggests that stimulus range affects the perception of loudness in addition to whatever effects it may have on numerical judgments of loudness.  相似文献

The present experiment measured the pattern of conditioned responses across 10 conditioning/testing trials which were elicited by an intraoral presentation of either a lithium- or an amphetamine-paired flavor. A nonspecific conditioned response pattern of suppressed limb flicking after five conditioning trials and of suppressed scratching after six conditioning trials was supported by both drugs. Lithium-specific increased activity level after one conditioning trial and chin rubbing after two conditioning trials were observed across conditioning/testing days. The lithium-specific conditioned responses were not the result of a stronger flavor aversion, because both lithium and amphetamine produced equivalent flavor avoidance responses across the 10 conditioning/testing trials. The results support previous research which suggests that flavor aversions produced by lithium and amphetamine are produced by different unconditioned response mechanisms.  相似文献

The relationship between the contrast and bar width of adapting and test gratings in the determination of the magnitude of the tilt after-effect was explored. When the contrast of adapting and test gratings is varied concomitantly over four levels, the magnitude of the tilt after-effect does not change. When the contrast of the adapting grating is higher than the test grating, the magnitude of the after-effect is increased and when its contrast is lower than the test grating, the magnitude of the after-effect is decreased. When the bar width of the test grating is narrower or broader than that of the adapting grating, the magnitude of the after-effect does not change. The implications of these results for a neurophysiological explanation of the tilt after-effect are discussed.  相似文献
