The behavioral assessment of parent-child interactions is an important component of treatment planning and evaluation in many evidence-based parent training programs. However, numerous factors unrelated to the parent-child interaction may add error to the assessment. This study investigated the impact of task instructions on parents’ behaviors during the analogue parent-child interaction observation, the Dyadic Parent-Child Interaction Coding System (DPICS). Forty-eight mother-child dyads were randomly assigned to one of two conditions that differed on level of specificity of instructions. Significant differences were observed between groups, with parents who received specific instructions using more praises during the DPICS tasks. Specific instructions may shift parents’ behaviors toward optimal, rather than typical, interaction patterns and should be considered in the context of the assessment goals. 相似文献

We investigated readiness for change (RFC), a construct that may contribute to the discrepancies between fathers' and mothers’ rates of participation in behavioral parent training. One hundred and twenty fathers and mothers of 2- to 7-year-old children with conduct problems completed standardized measures of RFC, child behavior problems, and parent stress as part of an intake to a parent-child interaction therapy clinic. Fathers reported less readiness for change, less confidence in their ability to make changes, were more defensive about the need to change, and saw treatment as less important than mothers. Results suggest that if clinicians match parent training interventions to mothers’ readiness, fathers may be left behind. 相似文献

At least 282 Food Policy Councils (FPCs) are currently working to improve access to healthy foods in their communities by connecting food system sectors, gathering community input, and advising food policy. Empirical research on FPCs is limited. This study empirically evaluates FPCs to better understand the relationships between Organizational Capacity, Social Capital, and Council Effectiveness by testing a FPC Framework adapted from Allen and colleagues (2012). Members of all FPCs in the U.S., Canada, and Native American Tribes and First Nations were invited to complete the Food Policy Council Self‐Assessment Tool (FPC‐SAT). Structural equation modeling was used to test the FPC Framework. Three hundred and fifty‐four FPC members from 95 councils completed the FPC‐SAT. After slight modification, a revised FPC Framework was a good fit with the data (χ2 = 40.085, df = 24, p‐value = .021, comparative fit index = 0.988, Tucker Lewis index = 0.982, root mean squared error of approximation = 0.044, p‐close = .650). A moderation analysis revealed that community context influences the relationship between Social Capital and Council Effectiveness within the FPC Framework. The FPC Framework can guide capacity building interventions and FPC evaluations. The empirically tested framework can help FPCs efficiently work toward achieving their missions and improving their local food system. 相似文献

This study employs a secondary analysis of U.S. nationally representative data from the Pew Internet 2008 civic engagement survey (N?=?2251) to examine the degree to which contacting public officials both online and offline is explained by the variables of gender and political connectedness. We find that while women are somewhat less likely to contact public officials through direct means, such as emailing or writing a letter, they are more likely to sign petitions, offline and especially online. Gender gaps in direct forms of contact are smaller in the online context than the offline context. We additionally find that that gender moderates the relationship between political connectedness developed via social networking sites and contacting public officials, such that women gain even further advantage in signing online petitions, but also gain further disadvantage in writing a letter/calling public officials and signing offline petitions. Finally, we find that political connectedness, achieved via social networking sites and offline contexts, is related to contacting public officials through both online and traditional means, suggesting a blurring of offline and online worlds. 相似文献

AbstractThe current study explored the psychometric properties of a parent-child interaction observation system, the Dyadic Parent-Child Interaction Coding System (DPICS) in the Netherlands. Participants included 31 Dutch mother-child dyads and 86?U.S. mother-child dyads for a community sample (2–7?years; 50% boys). Good one-week test-retest reliability was demonstrated among the Dutch sample. Similarities were found between Dutch and U.S. samples on most interaction codes, but mothers in the U.S. sample used more directive behaviors (e.g., commands) in some situations. Findings suggest that the DPICS is a reliable measure of mother-child interactions in the Dutch population. Cultural issues regarding the use of the DPICS are discussed. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine whether shyness is a risk factor for second language acquisition in immigrant preschoolers. Results from studies on first language acquisition indicate that shy children show less favorable language development; however, it remains unclear how shyness affects second language acquisition. As second language skills are often acquired in interactions outside the family where shyness is more evident, we postulate that shyness has a strong negative effect on second language acquisition. This hypothesis was examined using standardized tests and parental ratings in a sample of 330 immigrant preschoolers cross-sectionally and with 130 immigrant preschoolers longitudinally. The analyses revealed lower second language competence as well as slower language development in shy immigrant children compared to their non-shy counterparts. The present study highlights that not only contextual but also personality factors need to be considered for a comprehensive understanding of second language acquisition in immigrant children. 相似文献

Eight female rowers (M age = 21.0 yr., SD = 2.8), using a monophasic oral-contraceptive pill, performed a 1-hr. rowing ergometer test (intensity: 70% VO2max) during the active-pill and non active-pill phases of the oral contraceptive cycle. No significant differences were found in mean energy expenditure, oxygen consumption, respiratory exchange ratio, and heart rate during the endurance test at the two phases of the oral contraceptive cycle. Mean energy expenditure rate, carbohydrate energy expenditure, lipid energy expenditure, and blood lactate during the test were not statistically significantly different among the cycle phases. In conclusion, there was no observed difference in substrate oxidation and blood lactate level during endurance rowing at different phases of the oral contraceptive cycle in these endurance-trained rowers. Endurance-trained female athletes on oral contraceptives should not worry about the possible differences in substrate oxidation during everyday training at different phases of the oral contraceptive cycle. 相似文献

We present the conceptual and empirical foundation and curriculum content of the Mindfulness-Based Childbirth and Parenting
(MBCP) program and the results of a pilot study of n = 27 pregnant women participating in MBCP during their third trimester of pregnancy. MBCP is a formal adaptation of the Mindfulness-Based
Stress Reduction program and was developed and refined over the course of 11 years of clinical practice with 59 groups of
expectant couples. MBCP is designed to promote family health and well-being through the practice of mindfulness during pregnancy,
childbirth, and early parenting. Quantitative results from the current study include statistically significant increases in
mindfulness and positive affect, and decreases in pregnancy anxiety, depression, and negative affect from pre- to post-test
(p < .05). Effect sizes for changes in key hypothesized intervention mediators were large (d > .70), suggesting that MBCP is achieving its intended effects on maternal well-being during pregnancy. Qualitative reports
from participants expand upon the quantitative findings, with the majority of participants reporting perceived benefits of
using mindfulness practices during the perinatal period and early parenting. Our future research will involve conducting a
randomized controlled trial of MBCP to test effects on psychophysiological stress mechanisms and to examine effects on birth
outcomes, family relationship quality, and child development outcomes. 相似文献

The paper outlines the major approaches to the psychological study of acculturation, drawing particular attention to the importance
of context. Three significant contexts are highlighted: family, ethnic community, and society/nation. New perspectives from
our evolving program of acculturation research are introduced to illustrate contextual influences on acculturation, and future
directions for empirical work are recommended. 相似文献

This article is an effort to refine current understanding of social integration in the context of repatriate migration. The
empirical basis for this analysis is a recent survey in a national sample of post-1990 Russian Jewish immigrants to Israel
that examined the pace and determinants of their integration and acculturation. The proposed analytical framework in based
on the four main indicators of integration among educated first-genaration immigrants: (a) the improving command of the host
language and emerging bilingualism; (b) skilled occupation in the mainstream economy; (c) diversification of immigrants’ informal
networks to include members of the host society; and (d) shifts in the cultural and media consumption from coethnic (i.e.,
Russian-based) to the mainstream (i.e., Hebrew/English-based) products. The study helps to sketch social profiles of the immigrants
prone to social integration versus separatism; it also taps into the issue of cultural contact between the newcomers and non-immigrant
Israelis measured on both sides of theencounter. 相似文献
