Twelve Ss made binary decisions with feedback on numbers from one of two normal distributions with equal variances and unequal means. Sequences of distribution choices corresponded to first-order two-state Markov processes with probabilities of change of state of p1 = p2 = .50, p1 = p2 = .75, and p1 = p2 = .25. Performance was best (in d’ terms) when p1 = p2 ≠ .50. First-order sequential response dependencies tended to mirror the first-order stimulus dependencies. Violations of a fixed cutoff point decision rule were concentrated in the region of the average critical point, with a bandwidth of about 1/2σ, in which violations were strikingly more frequent than would be expected if they had occurred randomly. These results imply that in this task Ss are using a criterion-band decision rule instead of a fixed cutoff point rule, and that they are basing decisions in the region of the criterion band on information extracted from the sequence of decisions presented to them. Consistent relationships are found between Ss′ absolute judgments of the value of a stimulus and the previous sequence of both stimuli and responses. The form and magnitude of these sequential effects are shown to depend on the presence or absence of feedback and on task difficulty. The pattern of the sequential effects found allows the conclusion that they are due to purely response-system processes. Teachers were trained in the systematic use of attention and praise to reduce the disruptive classroom behavior of four first-grade children. Observation measures showed a significant improvement from baseline to treatment for these children and no significant changes for same-class controls. While the amount of teacher attention to target children remained the same from baseline to treatment, the proportion of attention to task-relevant behavior of these children increased. The 50th anniversary of the Swampscott Conference offers an opportunity to reflect on a community psychology setting, The Consultation Center at Yale, that was formed in response to the 1963 Community Mental Health Act and the 1965 Swampscott Conference. The Center has flourished as a community psychology setting for practice, research, and training for 39 of the 50 years since Swampscott. The human brain represents different kinds of visual feature dimensions in different ways. For example, surface features exhibit some properties that are very different from contour features, and some feature dimensions may be represented more extensively in either the dorsal or the ventral visual stream. Given such differences, we investigated feature binding across different feature dimensions and whether some feature dimensions might be more easily bound together than others. In Experiment 1, we looked at cross-dimension bindings for all combinations of color, orientation, and shape dimensions, while at the same time controlling for feature discriminability. Rates of correct binding, illusory conjunctions, and feature errors were equivalent in all cases. There was no bias so that some feature dimensions were easier to combine than others. In Experiment 2, we manipulated the difficulty of feature discrimination for the key, target-defining feature and the report feature. Rates of binding errors increased with difficulty of the key feature, but not with that of the report feature. The accuracy of feature discrimination could be dissociated from the accuracy of binding the feature to an object. Across both experiments, the accuracy of feature binding was independent of specific feature dimensions or perceptibility. These findings are discussed in relation to both feature integration and multiple-stage accounts of visual feature integration. 相似文献
