The purpose of the present study was to examine whether mindfulness predicts general trust and social support among trauma-exposed college students, as well as to examine the potential moderating effect of posttraumatic stress on these relationships. Participants consisted of 536 trauma-exposed college students attending a public university in the southeast United States. After controlling for PTSD symptoms and type of trauma, mindfulness was positively associated with general trust and social support at low and mean levels of PTSD symptomatology; however, the relationships between mindfulness and these variables were nonsignificant at high levels of PTSD symptomatology. 相似文献

Lesion-symptom mapping studies are based upon the assumption that behavioral impairments are directly related to structural brain damage. Given what is known about the relationship between perfusion deficits and impairment in acute stroke, attributing specific behavioral impairments to localized brain damage leaves much room for speculation, as impairments could also reflect abnormal neurovascular function in brain regions that appear structurally intact on traditional CT and MRI scans. Compared to acute stroke, the understanding of cerebral perfusion in chronic stroke is far less clear. Utilizing arterial spin labeling (ASL) MRI, we examined perfusion in 17 patients with chronic left hemisphere stroke. The results revealed a decrease in left hemisphere perfusion, primarily in peri-infarct tissue. There was also a strong relationship between increased infarct size and decreased perfusion. These findings have implications for lesion-symptom mapping studies as well as research that relies on functional MRI to study chronic stroke. 相似文献

Previous findings on the relationship between positive mood and global processing are often based on visual matching tasks
that involve a choice between global and local strategies. Preferences for global processing in positive mood, however, do
not imply a reduced ability to process locally. The present experiment tested the assumption that positive affect increases
flexibility in cognitive processing as indicated by the ability to overcome global precedence, and to respond rapidly to non-dominant
(local) features when the task necessitates it. Consistent with expectations, participants responded significantly faster
to local targets after positive compared to neutral and negative prime words. The typical precedence of global over local
processing observed after neutral and negative prime words was reversed after positive prime words. Findings support the assumption
that positive affect increases cognitive flexibility. Furthermore, findings suggest that mood-related preferences in global

Previous studies reveal an association between particular features of parental language input and advances in children's language learning. However, it is not known whether parent coaching aimed to enhance specific input components would (a) successfully increase these components in parents' language input and (b) result in concurrent increases in children's language development. The present randomized controlled trial assigned families of typically developing 6‐month‐old infants to Intervention (parent coaching) and Control (no coaching) groups. Families were equivalent on socioeconomic status, infants' gender, and infants' age. Parent coaching took place when infants were 6 and 10 months of age, and included quantitative and qualitative linguistic feedback on the amount of child‐directed speech, back‐and‐forth interactions, and parentese speech style. These variables were derived from each family's first‐person LENA recordings at home. Input variables and infant language were measured at 6, 10, and 14 months. Parent coaching significantly enhanced language input as measured by two social interaction variables: percentage of speech directed to the child and percentage of parentese speech. These two variables were correlated, and were both related to growth in infant babbling between 6 and 14 months. Intervention infants showed greater growth in babbling than Control infants. Furthermore, at 14 months, Intervention infants produced significantly more words than Control infants, as indicated by LENA recordings and parent report via the MacArthur‐Bates Communicative Developmental Inventory. Together, these results indicate that parent coaching can enrich specific aspects of parental language input, and can immediately and positively impact child language outcomes. This study evaluated the relationship of (a) reactive inhibition and right-lateralized emotion processing to each other and (b) to executive control of response suppression, and (c) with regard to ADHD in 134 children ages 7-12 years. Reactive inhibition was indexed by child ratings of sensation seeking on the Sensation Seeking Scales, executive control by the Stop Signal Task, emotion processing by performance on the Chimeric Faces Test, and ADHD by parent- and teacher-reported symptoms. The results were consistent with a two-process model in which executive control, conceived as a right-hemisphere lateralized function, was distinct from sensation seeking and lateralized emotion processing. Supporting this distinction, ADHD was associated with executive control, but not with sensation seeking/reactive inhibition or lateralized emotion processing. The findings suggest that ADHD cannot be understood as a global right-lateralized neuropsychological weakness, but rather that it involves only particular functions that may be right lateralized. Findings further suggest that risk for comorbid disorders in ADHD (e.g., conduct disorder or mood disorders) may increase as a function of independent factors such as temperament. Mechanisms underlying executive inhibition and emotional processing could be functionally independent yet interact to multiply psychopathological risk in some children (leading, for example, to comorbid disorders). 相似文献

The ability to remember is often compromised by competition from irrelevant memories. However, acts of selective remembering
can alter the competitive relationship between memories; memories that are selected against are weakened, whereas those that
are retrieved are strengthened. Whereas the weakening of selectedagainst memories is typically evidenced by subsequently poorer
recall of these memories, the present study tested the hypothesis that when previously selected-against memories can subsequently
be successfully retrieved, such acts of successful retrieval are associated with engagement of neurobiological mechanisms
that serve to detect and overcome competition. Consistent with this hypothesis, fMRI revealed that anterior cingulate cortex
and right ventrolateral prefrontal cortex are differentially engaged during successful retrieval of previously selected-against

Discrimination of two acoustic dimensions of auditory stimuli, vowel identity and pitch contour, was tested with infants between the ages of 4 and 16 weeks using the high-amplitude sucking (HAS) technique. Discrimination of the vowel dimension and the pitch dimension was tested under two conditions: when a change in the target dimension occurred in theabsence of constant variation in a second dimension, and when a change in the target dimension occurred in thepresence of constant variation in a second dimension. In addition, discrimination was tested in a combined condition in which one level of the vowel dimension was always combined with one level of the pitch dimension and the stimulus change to be detected was a recombination of the levels of each dimension. Sucking-recovery scores demonstrated that infants always discriminated a change in the target dimension when it occurred without variation in the second dimension, regardless of the dimension that served as the target. However, while variation of the pitch dimension did not alter vowel discrimination, variation in the vowel dimension interfered with discrimination of the pitch dimension. Discrimination was also not evidenced in the combined condition. Analysis of the group time-to-habituation (TH) data revealed that significantly longer TH scores were correlated with a failure to demonstrate discrimination. The data are discussed in terms of the formation of auditory perceptual categories in early infancy as they relate to the acquisition of speech and language and, more generally, to developmental attention and memory for auditory stimuli. 相似文献
