There is a paucity of information available about the extent to which findings from research studies of behavioural treatments can be generalised to routine clinical practice. The characteristics and treatment at a series of 36 patients with obsessional-compulsive disorders who were referred to a National Health Service Behaviour Therapy Clinic are described. It appears that the methods developed and evaluated in research trials have been incorporated into everyday clinical practice, with some modifications (e.g. less in vivo practice but more home task assignment). The outcomes reported in the research trials were replicated in the clinical setting, and were shown to be achieved economically in terms of therapist time. 相似文献

This research examined the relationship between cortical activation, defined by electroencephalographic (EEG) measures, and the ability to recall dreams following awakenings from Stage 2 sleep. Period-analyzed EEG data from 40 subjects were examined for the preawakening, postawakening, and preawakening-to-postawakening time intervals. Recall differed from nonrecall at the postawakening and preawakening-to-postawakening periods on measures of muscle activity and time spent in the sigma (12-16 Hz) frequency band. There were no distinctions in recall ability on EEG hemispheric asymmetry measures. Generally, the findings do not support the hypothesis linking increased recall ability to increases in cortical activation prior to awakening. The emergence of new behaviors and the reorganization of psychological structures are often attributed to critical events and crises in the life course. A fundamentally different perspective is offered: Potentially disruptive transitions produce personality continuity, not change. The behavioral responses of adolescent girls to the onset of menarche was studied in a longitudinal study of an unselected birth cohort. Predictions from 3 rival hypotheses about the relation between pubertal change and social psychological change were first tested: the stressful change, off time, and early-timing hypotheses. The results supported the early-timing hypothesis. Whether stressful, early menarche generated new behavioral problems or accentuated premenarcheal dispositions was then tested. The results supported an accentuation model: Stressful transitions accentuated behavioral problems among girls who were predisposed to behavioral problems earlier in childhood. Speculations are offered for a broader theory about the role of individual differences in the life course. 相似文献

Three pigeons pecked for food in two experiments in which each trial consisted of two phases: a study and a test phase. The study phase in Experiment I consisted of two stimulus-response pairs presented successively. Each pair consisted of the illumination of a left or right key (the stimulus) and a peck on the lighted side key (the response). The study phase in Experiment II consisted of three such pairs presented successively. A retention interval, varied between 0.1 and 4.0 sec, separated the study phase from the test phase. The test phase of a trial began with the illumination of the center key by one of two (Experiment I) or three (Experiment II) colors. This color was the same as the stimulus element of one of the pairs in the study phase. A reinforcer was presented if a subject then emitted the response element of the indicated stimulus-response pair. The results provide information on the conditions that enable a pigeon to remember the responses most recently emitted in the presence of various stimuli. A discrete-trials, delayed-pair-comparison procedure was developed to study visual short-term memory for tilted lines. In four experiments, pigeons' responses on left or right keys were reinforced with food depending on whether a comparison stimulus was or was not the same as a standard stimulus presented earlier in the same trial. In Experimental I, recall was an increasing function of the exposure time of the to-be-remembered stimulus and was a decreasing function of the retention interval. In Experiment II, retroactive interference was investigated: recall was poorer after a retention interval during which was presented either a tilted line or contextual stimuli in the form of the illuminated experimental chamber. In Experiment III, a subject was required to engage, throughout the retention interval, in one or the other of two different behaviors, depending on which of two stimuli a subject was to remember. This mnemonic strategy vastly improved recall after 15- and 20-second retention intervals. In Experiment IV, the opposite end of the performance continuum was studied: by combining the effects of a larger stimulus set and the effects of what presumably was an increased memory load, performance was reduced to approximately chance levels after retention intervals shorter than 1 second. 相似文献

Two standardized psychological treatments for bulimia nervosa were studied. A cognitive behavioural approach was compared with a form of short-term focal psychotherapy. Twenty-four patients who met strict diagnostic criteria for bulimia nervosa were randomly allocated to the two treatments. All the interviews were tape-recorded so that checks on their content could be made. Assessments took place at the beginning and end of treatment, and at 4-, 8- and 12-month follow-up. None of the patients dropped out of treatment or follow-up, but 1 patient from each treatment group had to be withdrawn on clinical grounds. Patients in both groups made substantial improvements which were well maintained over the 12-month treatment-free follow-up period. The cognitive behavioural approach was superior to short-term focal psychotherapy in terms of its effect on the patients' overall clinical state, their general psychopathology and social adjustment, and their assessment of their outcome. 相似文献

The present study investigated the association between a personality trait known as affect intensity and the perceived qualities of emotions. Subjects completed the Affect Intensity Measure (AIM), and they rated the phenomenological qualities and causal dimensions of previous emotional experiences involving happiness, pride, anxiety, and hate. The results showed that high and low scorers on the AIM reported different perceptions of certain qualities of the emotional event, independent of the emotion's valence; subjects with high scores on the AIM rated their emotions as higher in intensity, frequency, and vividness of recall. In contrast, further analyses revealed little relation between AIM scores and causal dimension ratings of the emotions. However, within-subject analyses indicated that the emotions did differ in their perceived causes, thus supporting predictions from Weiner's attributional model of emotion. The results are discussed in terms of the need for a complex approach to the study of emotion which incorporates intersubject and intrasubject differences. 相似文献
