There has been a growing recognition of the need to provide appropriate intervention services to fathers who have been abusive in their families. This paper highlights four specific treatment goals for fathers who maltreat their children, along with therapeutic strategies necessary to accomplish desired outcomes. These goals were developed as part of the Caring Dads: Helping Fathers Value Their Children program and include: (a) developing sufficient trust and motivation to engage men in the process of examining their fathering; (b) increasing men's awareness and application of child-centered fathering; (c) increasing men's awareness of, and responsibility for, abusive and neglectful fathering, including domestic violence; and (d) rebuilding trust with their children and planning for the future. The strategies include a range of approaches, such as motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, cognitive-behavioral techniques, confrontation, and shame work. We describe each goal in terms of desired outcomes and primary therapeutic techniques used by the facilitators, and illustrate each with examples of exercises from the Caring Dads program. Implications for the training of therapists working with maltreating fathers are also highlighted. 相似文献

Studies addressing Black adolescents' social change strategies are nonexistent and might be associated with the absence of social change measures for Black adolescents. In an effort to begin addressing this concern, the 30-item Measure of Social Change for Adolescents (MOSC-A) was designed to measure Black adolescents' first- (i.e., within the system) and second- (outside of the system) order social change strategies. Factor analysis of responses that 226 Black adolescents gave to the MOSC-A revealed first- and second-order social change factors. Item response theory analyses revealed that 65% of the items on the former factor adequately discriminate across different trait levels, but those of the latter were less promising. Scaffolded on this study, future research might refine the MOSC-A's psychometric properties and improve its utility. 相似文献

The present study used a lexical decision paradigm to study the summation of priming effects in normal and aphasic participants. The amount of priming produced by pairs of definitionally converging associative words was compared to the amount of priming produced by pairs of single associative words and non-words in two experiments in which the ISI between primes and targets varied from 200 ms (Experiment 1) to 600 ms (Experiment 2). Control subjects showed a pattern of additive summation priming at the short ISI and overadditive summation priming at the longer ISI. Broca's aphasics showed overadditive priming at the short ISI and no significant priming at the longer ISI; Wernicke's aphasics showed no significant priming at the short ISI and additive priming at the longer ISI. These results suggest that aphasics differ from normals in their ability to integrate the activation derived from multiple linguistic associations and may provide an account of some of the clinical phenomenology of these patients. 相似文献

Visual search for a conjunction target is facilitated when distractor sets are segmented over time: the preview benefit. Watson and Humphreys (1997) suggested that this benefit involved inhibition of old items (visual marking, VM). We investigated whether the preview benefit is sensitive to the configuration of the old distractors. Old distractors changed their location prior to the occurrence of the new items, while also either changing or maintaining their configuration. Configuration changes disrupted search. The results are consistent with object-based VM, which is sensitive to the configuration of old stimuli. 相似文献

Four crows were trained to key peck for food. Then, they were exposed to a positive response contingency that required them to peck the key when it was illuminated briefly (the trial) in order to receive food. This procedure resulted in consistent within-trial pecking. When the contingency changed so that food was presented at the end of a trial when no response occurred, but the trial terminated immediately and food was omitted when a response occurred (negative response contingency), responding decreased markedly. Eight pigeons were studied under the same change in contingencies. These birds varied in their response histories from naive to having several years' experience. The previously naive pigeons also showed rapid declines in responding under the negative contingency; the responding of the birds with extended training histories declined much more slowly. Eventually, however, six of the eight pigeons showed little or no responding under the negative contingency, while they responded consistently when re-exposed to the positive contingency. A quaternary model of temperament constructed from orthogonal axes defined by Extraversion-Introversion and Thinking-Feeling resulted in four groups: Introverted Thinking, Introverted Feeling, Extraverted Thinking, and Extraverted Feeling. Hypothesized relationships between quaternary groups and defense cluster preferences were tested by giving 158 female college students the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Defense Mechanisms Inventory. There was little support for hypothesized relationships between the quaternary model and defense preferences. The only hypothesized significant group difference showed the Extraverted Feeling group recording a greater preference for the Reversal defense cluster than the Introverted Feeling group. 相似文献

Do people behave differently when they are lying compared with when they are telling the truth? The combined results of 1,338 estimates of 158 cues to deception are reported. Results show that in some ways, liars are less forthcoming than truth tellers, and they tell less compelling tales. They also make a more negative impression and are more tense. Their stories include fewer ordinary imperfections and unusual contents. However, many behaviors showed no discernible links, or only weak links, to deceit. Cues to deception were more pronounced when people were motivated to succeed, especially when the motivations were identity relevant rather than monetary or material. Cues to deception were also stronger when lies were about transgressions. 相似文献
