Brief Behavioral Knowledge Questionnaire: Measuring Change in Caregiver's Knowledge Following Participation in a Brief Behavioral Training

Behavioral caregiver training programs are extensively used interventions, based on empirical research and applied concepts of behavior. As these interventions become more widespread in use across settings for various populations, the availability of efficient methods to evaluate program effectiveness is crucial. Currently, there is a lack of widely used and psychometrically sound measurement tools to assess change in caregivers' knowledge of behavioral principles following participation in such training. In the current study, we assessed change in caregivers' knowledge of behavioral principles following participation in a caregiver training based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Twenty caregivers participated in the evaluation, which included pre‐ and post‐Brief Behavioral Knowledge Questionnaire (BBKQ) completed before and after participation in a brief behavioral training (BBT). The measurement was found to have good internal consistency. Results also show that following participation in the BBT, caregivers' initial knowledge of behavioral principles increased significantly. The results suggest that the BBKQ may be a useful tool in detecting changes in caregiver's knowledge of behavior principles following BBT. Limitation and future directions are discussed. Children sometimes solve problems incorrectly because they fail to represent key features of the problems. One potential source of improvements in children's problem representations is learning new problem-solving strategies. Ninety-one 3rd- and 4th-grade students solved mathematical equivalence problems (e.g., 3 + 4 + 6 = 3 + __) and completed a representation assessment in which they briefly viewed similar problems and either reconstructed each problem or identified it in a set of alternatives. Experimental groups then received a lesson about one or both of two solution strategies, the equalize strategy and the add–subtract strategy. A control group received no instruction. All children completed posttest assessments of representation and problem solving. Children taught the equalize strategy improved their problem representations more than those not taught it. This pattern did not hold for the add–subtract strategy. These results indicate that learning new strategies is one source of changes in problem representation. However, some strategies are more effective than others at promoting accurate problem representation. 相似文献

This study presents a new approach to examine how team members experience interpersonal differences. This approach offers a way to examine how team members experience their differences with specific other individuals, and how these differences are related to the amount of perceived conflict with these individuals in an organizational context. Data from a non‐profit governmental institution in The Netherlands were analysed, including 80 participants from 15 diverse teams. Five types of differences were salient to the individuals in this sample: differences related to extraversion; work pose; approach to work; task‐related expertise; and seniority. Furthermore, individuals tend to contrast positive and negative evaluations of differences related to extraversion and approaches to work, but to conceptualize positive and negative evaluations of task‐related expertise, seniority, and work pose as more mutually independent phenomena. Moreover, we found that differences related to task‐related expertise were negatively related to both task and relationship conflict. In contrast, differences related to extraversion were positively related to both task and relationship conflict. Finally, the approach‐to‐work cluster was positively related to only task conflict. 相似文献

People are motivated to establish and maintain a positive self-image. When people fail to attain their goals self-esteem is threatened, and this elicits the motivation to protect or repair self-esteem. We investigated whether success and failure to attain goals affects self-esteem if these goals were unconsciously activated. In three experiments, we tested and confirmed the hypothesis that self-esteem is indeed affected by success and failure to attain unconsciously activated goals. In two additional experiments, we demonstrated that people were motivated to protect or restore self-esteem after failure to attain an unconsciously activated achievement goal. 相似文献

In a recent Cognition paper (Cognition 85 (2002) B21), Bornkessel, Schlesewsky, and Friederici report ERP data that they claim “show that online processing difficulties induced by word order variations in German cannot be attributed to the relative infrequency of the constructions in question, but rather appear to reflect the application of grammatical principles during parsing” (p. B21). In this commentary we demonstrate that the posited contrast between grammatical principles and construction (in)frequency as sources of parsing problems is artificial because it is based on factually incorrect assumptions about the grammar of German and on inaccurate corpus frequency data concerning the German constructions involved. 相似文献

In a survey the 458 members of the German Association for Concentrative Movement Therapy (DAKBT) were asked in a questionnaire, to answer the question how the actual therapeutic practice of Concentrative Movement Therapy (KBT) in Germany looks like. They were asked about their therapeutic setting, the patients diagnoses and the duration of treatment. 67.5% of the questionnaires were sent back. 191 of those who answered, are working as professional psychotherapists, 62.8% of them with out-patients, 51.3% in hospitals, 17.8% in both therapeutic fields. Besides group psychotherapy most of them offer individual therapy, especially with out-patients. It is shown, that besides psychosomatic disorders (being a wellknown indication) KBT is also applied in a broad variety of other psychic disorders. Half of the outpatient treatments is finished within 50 meetings. Female patients and patients with personality or eating disorders show up a greater number of contacts in out-patient individual treatment. The results verify that in practice KBT is no longer confined to a supplementary group therapy. 相似文献

A contentious debate in Canadian newspapers preceded the enactment of the country’s Multiculturalism Act. This article traces the varying cultural perspectives of journalists writing in five Canadian newspapers from 1980 to 1988. Whereas this period is generally viewed as being one of growth for official multiculturalism in Canada, the press criticism against it seems to have been a harbinger of the political opposition to the policy that attained prominence in the early 1990s. Functional MRI of young adults has implicated the striatum in the processing of rewarding and punishing events. To date, only
two published experiments (Samanez-Larkin et al., 2007; Schott et al., 2007) have explored similar phenomena in older adults,
with both studies emphasizing the anticipation of monetary outcomes. To better understand older participants’ striatal responses
to delivered outcomes, we engaged 20 older adults and 13 younger adults in a card-guessing task that rewarded correct guesses
with monetary gain and punished incorrect guesses with monetary loss. Overall, the older adults retained most of the typical
features of the striatal response, so that activity in the caudate head showed reliable differentiation between rewards and
punishments during the 6- to 9-sec postoutcome window. Comparison of the older and younger adults also pointed to some potential
aging effects on outcome activity, including reductions in the magnitude and extent of striatal activation, and a trend for
the older adults to show a decreased early punishment response. In sum, our data suggest that the signaling of outcome valence
remains relatively stable into late adulthood, although more research is needed to understand some subtle changes that might

Three experiments tested the hypothesis that need for affect and need for cognition influence receptivity to affect- and cognition-based persuasive messages. Experiment 1 found that an affective message elicited more positive attitudes among individuals high in need for affect and low in need for cognition, whereas a cognitive message elicited more positive attitudes among individuals low in need for affect and high in need for cognition. Experiment 2 found that individual differences in need for affect influenced receptivity to an affect-based (but not cognition-based) message, whereas individual differences in need for cognition influenced receptivity to a cognition-based (but not affect-based) message. Experiment 3 found that individual differences in need for affect were associated with increased recognition of information from an affect-based (but not cognition-based) message, whereas individual differences in need for cognition were associated with increased recognition of information from a cognition-based (but not affect-based) message.
