This study aims to evaluate reliability, internal consistency and dimensional structure of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) among disabled students. The study covers 127 disabled students studying in public universities, 26 in private universities, 109 in polytechnic and 19 studying in community colleges. The World Health Organization Quality of Life Abbreviation (WHOQOL-BREF) has been used to assess QOL. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were evaluated by Cronbach’s alpha (α) and Pearson’s correlation coefficients. Alpha scores greater than or equal to 0.6 are considered to denote acceptable and adequate internal consistency. Correlation matrix also showed satisfactory results in all domains. Factor analysis was carried out using the principal components method with varimax rotation to examine the dimensional structure of the questionnaire. This study has provided some preliminary evidence of the reliability and validity of the WHOQOL-BREF to be used for evaluating quality of life among disabled students. 相似文献

Purpose
Our study explores the mediating role of discrete emotions in the relationships between employee perceptions of distributive and procedural injustice, regarding an annual salary raise, and counterproductive work behaviors (CWBs).Design/Methodology/Approach
Survey data were provided by 508 individuals from telecom and IT companies in Pakistan. Confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling, and bootstrapping were used to test our hypothesized model.Findings
We found a good fit between the data and our tested model. As predicted, anger (and not sadness) was positively related to aggressive CWBs (abuse against others and production deviance) and fully mediated the relationship between perceived distributive injustice and these CWBs. Against predictions, however, neither sadness nor anger was significantly related to employee withdrawal.Implications
Our findings provide organizations with an insight into the emotional consequences of unfair HR policies, and the potential implications for CWBs. Such knowledge may help employers to develop training and counseling interventions that support the effective management of emotions at work. Our findings are particularly salient for national and multinational organizations in Pakistan.Originality/Value
This is one of the first studies to provide empirical support for the relationships between in/justice, discrete emotions and CWBs in a non-Western (Pakistani) context. Our study also provides new evidence for the differential effects of outward/inward emotions on aggressive/passive CWBs. 相似文献23.
Models of motor control have highlighted the role of temporal predictive mechanisms in sensorimotor processing of speech and limb movement timing. We investigated how these mechanisms are affected in Parkinson’s disease (PD) while patients performed speech and hand motor reaction time tasks in response to sensory stimuli with predictable and unpredictable temporal dynamics. Results showed slower motor reaction times in PD vs. control in response to temporally predictable, but not unpredictable stimuli. This effect was driven by faster motor responses to predictable stimuli in control subjects; however, no such effect was observed in the PD group. These findings indicated the relationship between PD pathology and sensorimotor deficits in temporal predictive mechanisms of timing processing during speech production and hand movement. 相似文献

The hedonic value of an outcome can be influenced by the alternatives to which it is compared, which is why people expect to be happier with outcomes that maximize comparative value (e.g., the best of several mediocre alternatives) than with outcomes that maximize absolute value (e.g., the worst of several excellent alternatives). The results of five experiments suggest that affective forecasters overestimate the importance of comparative value because forecasters do not realize that comparison requires cognitive resources, and that experiences consume more cognitive resources than do forecasts. In other words, because forecasters overestimate the extent to which they will be able to think about what they did not get while experiencing what they got. 相似文献

De novo mRNA synthesis is required for both consolidation and reconsolidation of fear memories in the amygdala 下载免费PDF全文
Memory consolidation is the process by which newly learned information is stabilized into long-term memory (LTM). Considerable evidence indicates that retrieval of a consolidated memory returns it to a labile state that requires it to be restabilized. Consolidation of new fear memories has been shown to require de novo RNA and protein synthesis in the lateral nucleus of the amygdala (LA). We have previously shown that de novo protein synthesis in the LA is required for reconsolidation of auditory fear memories. One key question is whether protein synthesis during reconsolidation depends on already existing mRNAs or on synthesis of new mRNAs in the amygdala. In the present study, we examined the effect of mRNA synthesis inhibition during consolidation and reconsolidation of auditory fear memories. We first show that intra-LA infusion of two different mRNA inhibitors dose-dependently impairs long-term memory but leaves short-term memory (STM) intact. Next, we show that intra-LA infusion of the same inhibitors dose-dependently blocks post-reactivation long-term memory (PR-LTM), whereas post-reactivation short-term memory (PR-STM) is left intact. Furthermore, the same treatment in the absence of memory reactivation has no effect. Together, these results show that both consolidation and reconsolidation of auditory fear memories require de novo mRNA synthesis and are equally sensitive to disruption of de novo mRNA synthesis in the LA. 相似文献

A complex brain network, centered on the hippocampus, supports episodic memories throughout their lifetimes. Classically, upon memory encoding during active behavior, hippocampal activity is dominated by theta oscillations (6-10Hz). During inactivity, hippocampal neurons burst synchronously, constituting sharp waves, which can propagate to other structures, theoretically supporting memory consolidation. This 'two-stage' model has been updated by new data from high-density electrophysiological recordings in animals that shed light on how information is encoded and exchanged between hippocampus, neocortex and subcortical structures such as the striatum. Cell assemblies (tightly related groups of cells) discharge together and synchronize across brain structures orchestrated by theta, sharp waves and slow oscillations, to encode information. This evolving dynamical schema is key to extending our understanding of memory processes. 相似文献

Emotional labor refers to effort, planning, and control required to display organizationally desired emotions during interpersonal
transactions and performed by individuals either through deep acting or surface acting. Deep acting refers to the modification
of inner feeling in order to express the organizationally desired emotions, whereas surface acting refers to the change of
emotional expression without facilitating the change of inner emotional state. The authors examined the moderating role of
emotional intelligence dimensions (self-emotional appraisal; others’ emotional appraisal, use of emotion, and regulation of
emotion) in the affectivity (a general positive or negative tendency to experience a particular mood)-emotional labor and
emotional labor-psychological distress relationships among 210 university teachers. Specifically, we found that (a) regulation
of emotion was a particularly important emotional intelligence dimension in influencing the use of deep acting, both directly
and indirectly through the interaction with negative affectivity; (b) positive affectivity emerged as an important affectivity
dimension in influencing the use of deep acting both directly and indirectly through the interaction with self-emotional appraisal;
(c) negative affectivity was a particularly important affectivity dimension in influencing the use of surface acting, both
directly and indirectly through its interaction with emotional intelligence dimensions of self-emotional appraisal and use
of emotion; and finally (d) regulation of emotion interacted with deep acting to influence the psychological distress arising
from EL requirements. 相似文献

Recent research has highlighted the importance of understanding the influence of an organization’s external image on its members. Although progress has been made in understanding how perceived external prestige relates to workplace outcomes, researchers have not examined the joint effect of perceived external prestige and individual differences on such outcomes. In this article, we tested the impact of perceived external prestige on turnover intentions, but we also assumed that this influence is moderated by individuals’ need for organizational identification. Using three samples and a longitudinal research design, we found consistent support for this assumption. These results provide empirical support for the theoretical integration of social identity and need-based motivation theories. 相似文献

Correlates of adolescent pregnancy in La Paz,Bolivia: findings from a quantitative-qualitative study
Recent data indicate that nearly one in three Bolivian adolescent females becomes pregnant prior to reaching age twenty. This article presents the results of a study undertaken to address the question of why some female adolescents in La Paz, Bolivia, become pregnant while others in similar circumstances avoid early pregnancy. The study utilized mixed qualitative-quantitative methods based on a case-control design. Among the potential explanatory factors considered were family structure, parental relationships, partner relationships, knowledge of pregnancy risks, self-esteem, and locus of control. Significant differences between girls experiencing a pregnancy and those who had not were observed on two of the six factors considered-relationships with parents and self-esteem. Girls who had experienced a pregnancy were less likely to have reported affectionate and supportive parents, more likely to have reported fighting in their home, and exhibited lower levels of self-esteem than those who had never been pregnant. Focus-group discussions suggested that adolescent females in La Paz lack trustworthy support networks that would empower them to seek information regarding sex and contraception and to act upon such information. 相似文献
