The authors conducted a quantitative examination of parallels between milieu and therapy group dynamics on a short-term inpatient unit. The Ward Atmosphere Scale was used to assess the milieu, and the Group Climate Questionnaire-S to measure processes in key groups. Assessments were made by patients and staff once each week for 10 months. The authors found clear parallels between ward and therapy group processes. The parallels reflected the impact of patterns utilization of the unit, its treatment philosophy, and the emotional dynamics of its constituents. Examination of these associations also revealed limitations of the treatment setting, clarified the potential impact of particular staff interventions, and demonstrated biases in the rating methods. Study of parallel process on the psychiatric unit is a rich source of information on the nature of inpatient treatment. 相似文献

Separating the acquisition of prerequisite skills from the learning of skills in vivo may be a more efficacious procedure for self-help training of low functioning developmentally delayed children. Two procedures for training independent use of a fork at meals were compared using two equivalent groups of three subjects each, in multiple baseline design. Using previously accepted procedures, one group was trained during meals while the experimental group received prerequisite training making use of simulated food (styrofoam pieces). Data during training, generalization-to-meal, and follow-up were collected. For 6 months following training, the efficacy of prerequisite training was upheld. The complexity of individual responses to the singular or conjunctive use of social and edible reinforcement for the purpose of self-feeding skill generalization and maintenance, is discussed. 相似文献

Attitudes of teachers and counselors-in-training toward women's roles, sex-role identity, and tolerance for gender-role norm violators were examined following a semistructured consciousness-raising group. Significant differences were found between the two treatment groups on the Attitudes Towards Women Scale. The results are discussed in terms of social reinforcement of a feminist model as instructor. ABSTRACT— Two world trends are powerfully reshaping human existence: the degradation, if not destruction, of large parts of the natural world, and unprecedented technological development. At the nexus of these two trends lies technological nature—technologies that in various ways mediate, augment, or simulate the natural world. Current examples of technological nature include videos and live webcams of nature, robot animals, and immersive virtual environments. Does it matter for the physical and psychological well-being of the human species that actual nature is being replaced with technological nature? As the basis for our provisional answer (it is "yes"), we draw on evolutionary and cross-cultural developmental accounts of the human relation with nature and some recent psychological research on the effects of technological nature. Finally, we discuss the issue—and area for future research—of "environmental generational amnesia." The concern is that, by adapting gradually to the loss of actual nature and to the increase of technological nature, humans will lower the baseline across generations for what counts as a full measure of the human experience and of human flourishing. 相似文献
