To date, relatively few studies have begun to explore adolescents’ sexual self-disclosure in cyberspace. Rare research has
taken a close look at differences in adolescents’ sexual self-disclosure occurring in real life and cyberspace. The social
penetration model suggests that an individual’s level of sexual disclosure should be in accordance with relationship intimacy
in real life. The current study investigated whether the effects of relationship intimacy on adolescents’ willingness to disclose
sexual history differ in terms of sex and communication environment (real life vs. cyberspace). A total of 419 Taiwanese adolescents
completed a survey about their willingness to communicate on different sexual topics in the contexts of varying levels of
relationship intimacy. The results showed that in real life both male and female adolescents showed a parallel relationship
between willingness to engage in sexual disclosure and relationship intimacy, supporting predictions according to the social
penetration model. However, in cyberspace, male adolescents exhibited a greater willingness to communicate, regardless of
degree of relationship intimacy, whereas females revealed a U-shape trend regarding the effect of relationship intimacy on
willingness to communicate. These findings indicate that sexual disclosure on the part of adolescents in cyberspace departs
from the perspective of the social penetration model. 相似文献

The systematic use of Web search tools to browse and evaluate recommendations is widespread. Such tools may be crucial for users to truly benefit from the enormous selection of options available online. However, a recent study demonstrated that a greater number of search options triggered excessive searching and led to inferior decisions (i.e., the more‐means‐worse effect; Wu & Chiou, 2009 ). Given that individuals who are motivated to make accurate choices (the accuracy incentive) tend to engage in broader and more exhaustive searches, Experiment 1 examined how the accuracy incentive influenced the search process. The findings indicated that the accuracy incentive led to excessive searching and poorer choices. Moreover, the search ratio, an indicator of excessive searching, mediated the negative effect of the accuracy incentive on choice quality. Experiment 2 investigated the role of the need for cognition (NFC) in the more‐means‐worse effect. High‐NFC participants demonstrated an increased tendency toward excessive searching and exhibited poorer selectivity than did low‐NFC participants. The current research indicated that the accuracy incentive of online searchers may serve as a determinant of excessive searching and that online searchers characterized by high NFC may be more vulnerable to the negative effects of excessive searching. This study examined some possible factors that were expected to influence choices of coping strategies. They were demographic variables (age, sex, marital status, education, and family income), personality traits (extroversion, neuroticism and locus of control), perceived life stress, and received social support. Five hundred and eighty one randomly selected community adults living in Kaohsiung city were interviewed and completed questionnaires measuring the above variables. Multivariate analyses had shown that: (a) higher income and education were related to more use of ‘Seeking social resources’ and ‘Planning & hoping’ coping; (b) higher extroversion was related to more use of ‘Seeking social resources’, ‘Planning & hoping’ and ‘Emotional suppression’ coping, whereas the last was also related to higher neuroticism; (c) people with higher internal locus of control favoured ‘Planning & hoping’, but not ‘Emotional suppression’ coping; (d) perceived life stress was not related to any use of coping behaviours; however, (e) more social support was related to more use of all kinds of coping behaviours. Implications of results were discussed in the context of stress and adaptation. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relative influence of attitude toward the act, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control on consumers' purchase intention when consumers possess different levels of product knowledge (subjective and objective). The magnitude of the influence is compared across two different societies (U.S. and Taiwanese). U.S. (N = 295) and Taiwanese (N = 297) college students participated. The results showed that the relative importance of attitude toward the act, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control in predicting purchase intention varied across consumers with different levels of product knowledge (subjective or objective) for the U.S. participants. However, the moderating effect of product knowledge was less profound for the Taiwanese participants. 相似文献

The negative impact of the Internet on adolescents has received much attention. How to reduce their pathological use of online gaming is also a critical issue. Based on cognitive dissonance theory, two experiments were conducted to examine whether personal responsibility and justification of cost may play crucial factors in impacting adolescent players' attitude change and their willingness to engage in attitude-discrepant behavior. The results of Experiment 1 revealed that adolescent players who felt a strong sense of responsibility appeared to exhibit greater attitude change. In Experiment 2, the findings indicated that players tended to employ justification of cost in order to reduce or eliminate the dissonance between their attitude toward online gaming and invested cost. Adolescent players who perceived a higher cost in online gaming were less willing to engage in attitude-discrepant behavior. Reducing adolescents ' overuse of online gaming can be appreciated through the perspective of cognitive dissonance. 相似文献

Studies in social psychology and clinical psychology have demonstrated that shame is associated with social disengagement.
We incorporated self-sufficiency with the mood-repair hypothesis from the feelings-as-information perspective to provide viable
explanations for the psychological consequence of shame, suggesting that the mood-repair goal primed by shame is an inclination
to behave self-sufficiently. In Study 1a and 1b, shamed participants preferred to work and play alone compared with control
participants. Specifically, participants who were induced to feel ashamed were less likely to perform a task with a co-worker
than were no-shame-prime participants. Furthermore, participants experiencing shame chose more individually focused leisure
activities than did participants in a neutral mood. In Study 2, participants experiencing shame worked longer on an unsolvable
task than control participants did before requesting help, suggesting that shame increased the tendency to be independent.
Based on these results, we concluded that experiencing shame was associated with an increased tendency to behave self-sufficiently
and to exhibit an inclination toward passive avoidance and active independence in social relationships as a means of amending
a threatened social self. 相似文献
