Ethical dilemmas are often not discussed in the dissemination of educational research. While the ethical guidelines for research
seem clear at first glance, a closer look at the intimate nature of qualitative research reveals that there are many ambiguities
or ‘grey’ areas where researchers must rely on their personal value systems. This article discusses the challenges faced by
an experienced educator, although novice researcher, in considering the ethical parameters of her own research with adolescents
with hearing loss. In particular, the grey ethical areas identified by the researcher include: (a) vulnerable population;
(b) researcher role confusion; (c) consent; (d) privacy, confidentiality, and anonymity; as well as (e) the nature of risk.
Based on the author’s own reflections on beginning the research process, the article presents possible pitfalls and ways of
overcoming the possibility of becoming immobilized by the ethical enigmas of research. 相似文献

In evolutionary linguistics, experiments using artificial signal spaces are being used to investigate the emergenceof speech structure. These signal spaces need to be continuous, non-discretized spaces from which discrete unitsand patterns can emerge. They need to be dissimilar from—but comparable with—the vocal tract, in order tominimize interference from pre-existing linguistic knowledge, while informing us about language. This is a hardbalance to strike. This article outlines a new approach that uses the Leap Motion, an infrared controller that canconvert manual movement in 3d space into sound. The signal space using this approach is more flexible than signalspaces in previous attempts. Further, output data using this approach is simpler to arrange and analyze. Theexperimental interface was built using free, and mostly open- source libraries in Python. We provide our sourcecode for other researchers as open source. 相似文献

Conducted in the fall of 2000, this study investigates personality and social variables that should predict attitudes regarding the desirability of prosecuting President Clinton for perjury following the expiration of his term (in January of 2001). Prosecution was favored by High Preference for Consistency (PFC) more than Low PFC individuals, by High Self-Esteem more than Low Self-Esteem individuals, and by Republicans more than Democrats. In addition, PFC and Party Affiliation interacted: High PFCs wanted Clinton prosecuted regardless of Party Affiliation, but Low PFCs desired prosecution strongly only if they were Republicans. Overall, the results are consistent with the general self-theory principle that human beings tend to adopt attitudes and positions that restore, maintain, or enhance self-esteem. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to explore attitudes toward the division of fathers' and mothers' participation in childcare/household tasks through a multilevel modeling approach. Data from the Euro-barometer surveys, including over 10,000 respondents from 13 European countries, were used. Respondents' attitudes were related to several individual-and macro-level factors. At the individual level (based on a separate regression equation for each country), it was found that respondents were most likely to hold egalitarian attitudes toward household work and childcare when they were younger, female, and politically liberal. At the macro level, countries' United Nations ratings on women's empowerment, Gross National Product, and cultural individualism were related to egalitarian attitudes. Study implications, strengths and weaknesses, and suggestions for future research are discussed. 相似文献

This article examines Julia Kristeva's theories of language, subjectivity, and faith. Kristeva's perspectives contain surprising resources for feminist theologians concerned about gender-inclusive language for God. Her concept of the Imaginary father offers a way to understand how God-language functions for person in relation to their subjectivity. Such an understanding can assist feminist thinkers to move beyond contemporary stalemates in theological appropriations of object relations theory, toward new feminist perspectives on subjectivity and new practices for transforming gendered language about God. 相似文献

Being imitated has generally been regarded as a positive experience conducive to reciprocal imitation of and increased attraction
to one’s imitator. An experiment on 3rd-graders, in an adaptation of a Thelen-Kirkland paradigm, investigates whether the
receipt of public recognition for a good product would simply amplify those positive effects, or would tend to reverse them,
and explores whether gender would moderate models, reactions under such conditions. Recognition allocation was manipulated
by having an “authority” award a symbolic star solely to the model, to the confederate imitator alone, to the confederate
nonimitator alone, or to no one. The results suggested that the boys rather than girls showed amplification effects of receiving
sole recognition: they reciprocally imitated more, and expressed greater attraction to, their same-sex imitator than did the
girls. Overall, models expressed relatively less attraction to the imitator than to the nonimitator. When interviewed, the
models were equally divided as to which of the two deserved the recognition when they themselves or their imitator received
it, but they stated unequivocally that the nonimitator who received the recognition deserved it. They also clearly stated
a preference for those tasks on which they themselves had been imitated—given that they themselves or their imitator had received
recognition credit, compared to models in the nonimitator-recognition and control conditions. It is clear that recognition
allocation is an important construct that should be considered in investigating models, reactions to being imitated, particularly
in the light of its significance in the adult world, at least of this culture. Several directions are proposed for pursuing

Individuals with autism exhibit significant impairments in prosody production, yet there is a paucity of research on prosody comprehension in this population. The current study adapted a psycholinguistic paradigm to examine whether individuals with autism are able to use prosody to resolve syntactically ambiguous sentences. Participants were 21 adolescents with high-functioning autism (HFA), and 22 typically developing controls matched on age, IQ, receptive language, and gender. The HFA group was significantly less likely to use prosody to disambiguate syntax, but scored comparably to controls when syntax alone or both prosody and syntax indicated the correct response. These findings indicate that adolescents with HFA have difficulty using prosody to disambiguate syntax in comparison to typically developing controls, even when matched on chronological age, IQ, and receptive language. The implications of these findings for how individuals with autism process language are discussed. 相似文献

The paucity of investigative studies exploring the coming out process of families was the impetus for this case study with
a six member family-of-choice. In-depth interviews highlight the complexities of negotiating family rules, journey with the
family as they struggled with their new identity, and reveal how the reflexive process contributed to the family’s co-creation
of new stories. The four themes that emerged (embracing gay identity, integrating as a family, building social networks, and
social awakening), offer details of how the family reconfigured from the rubble of confusion to become more cohesive, awakened
and empowered. Implications for clinical practice with families with gay members are addressed. 相似文献

School-wide positive behavior support (SWPBS) has been proposed as a proactive and preventive method to reduce problematic
behavior in schools. Under this approach, educators and administrators seek to create a school environment that fosters prosocial
behavior and attempts to systematically deter problem behaviors before they happen. To date, the relationship between SWPBS
and individualized positive behavior support (PBS) plans has not been examined. Specifically, it is unclear whether an atmosphere
of SWPBS facilitates the functional behavioral assessment process and the design of PBS plans for students exhibiting severe
behavior problems. The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether behavior support plans created in schools employing
SWPBS systems were more technically adequate than support plans created in schools utilizing traditional approaches to behavior
problems. Results indicated that support plans created at schools with SWPBS systems were more technically adequate than support
plans produced at non-SWPBS schools as measured by the Behavior Support Plan-Quality Evaluation (BSP-QE). However, support plans from schools with SWPBS systems were still considered underdeveloped. Limitations and future research

Workplace emotions: the role of supervision and leadership 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this experience sampling study, the authors examined the role of organizational leaders in employees' emotional experiences. Data were collected from health care workers 4 times a day for 2 weeks. Results indicate supervisors were associated with employee emotions in 3 ways: (a) Employees experienced fewer positive emotions when interacting with their supervisors as compared with interactions with coworkers and customers; (b) employees with supervisors high on transformational leadership experienced more positive emotions throughout the workday, including interactions with coworkers and customers; and (c) employees who regulated their emotions experienced decreased job satisfaction and increased stress, but those with supervisors high on transformational leadership were less likely to experience decreased job satisfaction. The results also suggest that the effects of emotional regulation on stress are long lasting (up to 2 hr) and not easily reduced by leadership behaviors. 相似文献
