The efficacy of Solution-Focused Family Therapy (SFFT) for helping three families with aggressive and oppositional-acting children (aged 8-9) was examined. The N = 1 multiple-baseline design with three replications used validated measures, a treatment manual, and a treatment integrity measure. The interventions lasted from four to five sessions. This research builds on a large body of literature which suggests that religious belief and practice suppress deviant behavior. Survey data from 520 undergraduates (64% freshmen and sophomores; 70% female; 80% Euro-American) at a large public university in the southwest were examined for whether students' strength of religious faith, church attendance, or frequency of prayer correlated with their having a tattoo, being interested in tattoos, or being likely to get a (or another) tattoo. Analysis showed strength of religious faith had a weak, negative correlation with having a tattoo, being interested in tattoos, and being likely to get a (or another) tattoo. Church attendance also weakly correlated with a reduced interest in tattooing. Since the strength of the numerous correlations was very low and barely reached statistical significance, religious belief and behavior do not appear to be associated substantively with attitudes and behavior regarding tattoos. This research examined the relationship of morally based self-esteem with drinking motives and alcohol consumption among college students. Basing self-esteem on morals was expected to be negatively associated with drinking behavior. We further expected this relationship to be mediated by drinking motives. Participants (N = 201; 45% male, 55% female) completed self-report measures of contingencies of self-worth, drinking motives, and drinking behavior. Previous research was supported in that college students whose self-esteem was more strongly contingent upon following personal morals consumed less alcohol. The current research extended these findings by showing that this relationship was mediated by drinking motives. Results suggest that it may be useful to better incorporate personal values into interventions for college students. The implementation of personal values in combination with brief treatments is discussed. 相似文献

This research examined the relation between having a body piercing and having engaged in premarital sexual intercourse. Data were gathered from a convenience sample of 450 college students. 72% were women; 85% were ages 18 to 22 years (M=20.9, SD=4.5), 80% were Euro-American. Women with piercings reported substantively and significantly greater frequency of sexual activity than college students without piercings. There were no significant differences in sexual experience between men with piercings and those without. These findings differ from previous research comparing the sexual activity of college students with and without tattoos. 相似文献

Damage to the hippocampal formation results in profound impairments in spatial navigation in rats and mice leading to the widely accepted assumption that the hippocampal cellular and molecular memory mechanisms of both genera are conserved. Recently our group has shown in two rat strains that hippocampal-dependent training in the water maze specifically induces robust 'sprouting' of granule cell suprapyramidal mossy fiber axon terminal fields. Here we sought to investigate whether the pronounced remodeling of adult hippocampal circuitry observed in the rat is also present in the mouse motivated by the thought that subsequent studies using genetically-engineered mice could then be implemented to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying training-dependent axonal growth in adult rodents. However, in contrast to Wistar rats, no changes in the Timm's-stained area of mossy fiber terminal fields (MFTFs) were observed in C57BL/6J or 129Sv/EmsJ inbred wild-type mice after water maze training. Neither extending the duration of training nor scaling down the size of the apparatus was able to induce sprouting in mouse mossy fiber pathways. Though there may be similarities in the ultimate output of the hippocampus of rats and mice as inferred from lesion studies, the current results, as well as differences in learning and memory characteristics between the two genera, suggest that the way in which the component circuitry functions is likely to be different; a not too surprising conclusion given the substantial evolutionary distance between them (>20 million years). The present findings afford an opportunity for uncovering linkages between evolutionarily significant alterations in hippocampal circuitry in relation to genera-specific information storage requirements. 相似文献

In recent years there has been widespread interest in assimilating forgiveness into a rational conception of the moral life.
This project usually construes forgiveness as a way of “moving past” evil and resuming the moral narrative it disrupted.
But to develop a philosophical sound conception of forgiveness, we must recognize that moral evil is world-shattering and
cannot be assimilated into the moral narrative of our lives. It is not an event that happens in one’s world but to one’s world. In this respect it is similar to death as Heidegger has described it. But, contrary to what Heidegger implies,
evil is more traumatic than death because, unlike the latter, it shatters moral reasoning and moral narrative. Evil is a monstrosity;
it traumatizes historical existence by impossibilizing the future. A philosophical account of forgiveness must therefore
be traumatological: recognizing the traumatizing impact that evil has on historicity, it has provide us a heuristic that will
help us to imagine the unimaginable possibility of transforming historical horror into good. 相似文献
