The burden of providing informal care to a family member can lead to caregiver depression and potentially harmful caregiving behavior. Given the interpersonal nature of caregiving, the relationship between caregivers and care recipients may impact caregiver responses. We applied attachment theory to understanding caregiver depression, and both potentially harmful and exemplary caregiving responses. We present data from 430 caregivers in the Family Relationships in Late Life (FRILL 2) Project, a multisite, longitudinal study of caregiving. Age, gender, and model of self were related to caregiving responses, suggesting that model of self may help identify caregivers at risk for poor responses. 相似文献

The Structure of Internalizing Disorders in Middle Childhood and Evidence for Personality Correlates

The current multi-method multi-informant investigation compared the fit of three competing models of internalizing problems
in middle childhood: (1) a unitary factor model, (2) a two-factor model corresponding to the DSM-IV Anxiety/Depression distinction,
and (3) a two-factor model corresponding to the Fear/Distress distinction observed in structural studies of adult psychopathology
(Krueger Archives of General Psychiatry, 56:921-926, 1999); Slade and Watson Psychological Medicine, 36:1593-1600, 2006). In total, 346 youths (mean age = 9.51, SD = .78) and their adult caregivers (344 mothers, 227 fathers) reported on childhood
internalizing symptoms and personality traits. Confirmatory factor analyses revealed adequate to good fit indices for all
three models, although the unitary factor model provided the most parsimonious summary of the data. Although the structural
analyses suggested that internalizing symptom subfactors were not clearly differentiated in middle childhood, hierarchical
regression analyses revealed that personality dimensions uniquely predicted the Anxiety/Fear and Depression/Distress disorders.
These results suggest that personality correlates differentiate childhood psychopathology structure before it is manifest

There is converging evidence that physical aggression and non-aggressive rule-breaking constitute meaningfully distinct, if
somewhat overlapping, dimensions of antisocial behavior, with different developmental trajectories, demographic correlates,
and etiologies. Social aggression can also be factor-analytically and demographically distinguished from physically aggressive
and rule-breaking antisocial behavior. However, there is ongoing debate as to whether social aggression should also be considered
“antisocial” in the way the term is commonly understood, given that socially aggressive behaviors are generally legal and
nearly normative during adolescence. The current study sought to empirically evaluate the notion that social aggression constitutes
a form of antisocial behavior that is separable from other forms of antisocial behavior. We thus conducted a preliminary study
to examine whether social aggression was associated with other forms of antisocial behavior and a variety of correlates of
antisocial behavior in a sample of 497 undergraduates. Analyses revealed that social aggression was independently associated
with other measures of antisocial behavior, substance use and unethical behaviors, as well as the personality traits known
to predict current and future antisocial behavior. These associations were particularly pronounced in women. Such findings
are consistent with our hypothesis that social aggression constitutes a distinct form of antisocial behavior. 相似文献

Efforts to find missing or wanted individuals have been characterized as an example of event‐based prospective memory called prospective person memory. We examined prospective person memory in the context of missing children. Participants studied 4 or 12 mock missing child posters. In Experiment 1, we equated total time per poster and found no difference between conditions in prospective person memory accuracy. In Experiment 2, we equated total time for all posters and found evidence of a decrease in prospective person memory accuracy in the 12‐poster condition. In Experiment 3, we allowed free study and also found a decrease in prospective person memory accuracy. Across all three experiments, we also found evidence of a more liberal response bias in the 12‐poster condition. Results are discussed in terms of both practical and theoretical implications. This paper deals with Ludwik Fleck??s theory of thought styles and Michael Polanyi??s theory of tacit knowledge. Though both concepts have been very influential for science studies in general, and both have been subject to numerous interpretations, their accounts have, somewhat surprisingly, hardly been comparatively analyzed. Both Fleck and Polanyi relied on the physiology and psychology of the senses in order to show that scientific knowledge follows less the path of logical principles than the path of accepting or rejecting specific conventions, where these may be psychologically or sociologically grounded. It is my aim to show that similarities and differences between Fleck and Polanyi are to be seen in the specific historical and political context in which they worked. Both authors, I shall argue, emphasized the relevance of perception in close connection to their respective understanding of science, freedom, and democracy. 相似文献

Contemporary models of ADHD hypothesize that hyperactivity reflects a byproduct of inhibition deficits. The current study investigated the relationship between children's motor activity and behavioral inhibition by experimentally manipulating demands placed on the limited-resource inhibition system. Twenty-two boys (ADHD = 11, TD = 11) between the ages of 8 and 12 years completed a conventional stop-signal task, two choice-task variants (no-tone, ignore-tone), and control tasks while their motor activity was measured objectively by actigraphs placed on their nondominant wrist and ankles. All children exhibited significantly higher activity rates under all three experimental tasks relative to control conditions, and children with ADHD moved significantly more than typically developing children across conditions. No differences in activity level were observed between the inhibition and noninhibition experimental tasks for either group, indicating that activity level was primarily associated with basic attentional rather than behavioral inhibition processes. 相似文献

or otherwise illegitimate inferential procedure. This paper discusses three different ways in which SFF’s might serve to justify
their conclusions. SFF’s might have probative value as honest and straightforward arguments, they might serve to justify the
premise of a meta-argument or, following a point made by Roy Sorensen, they might provide a non-inferential basis for accepting

The current study examined whether the Avoidance and Fusion Questionnaire for Youth (AFQ-Y; L. A. Greco, W. Lambert, & R. A. Baer, 2008), a self-report measure of psychological inflexibility for children and adolescents, might be useful for measuring psychological inflexibility for adults. The psychometric properties of the AFQ-Y were examined using data from a college student sample (N = 387) and a clinical sample of patients with anxiety disorders (N = 115). The AFQ-Y, but not the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II; F. W. Bond et al., in press), demonstrated a reading level at or below the recommended 5th or 6th grade reading level. The AFQ-Y also demonstrated adequate reliability (internal consistency), factorial validity, convergent and discriminant validity, and concurrent validity predicting psychological symptoms. Moreover, the AFQ-Y showed incremental validity over the AAQ-II in predicting several psychological symptom domains. Implications for the assessment of psychological inflexibility are discussed. 相似文献

In 2 studies, we examined the use of validity screening items in adolescent survey data. In each study, adolescent respondents were asked whether they were telling the truth and paying attention in answering survey questions. In Study 1 (N = 7,801), the prevalence rates of student risk behaviors were significantly lower after inappropriate (invalid) responders were screened out of the sample. In addition, confirmatory and multigroup factor analyses demonstrated significant differences between the factor structures of school climate scales with valid versus invalid responders. In Study 2, student perceptions of school climate were correlated with teacher perceptions in 291 schools. A bootstrap resampling procedure compared the correlations obtained with valid versus invalid responding students in each school and found that valid responders had more positive views of school conditions and produced higher correlations with teacher perceptions. These findings support the value of validity screening items in improving the quality of adolescent survey data. 相似文献
