Much recent psycho- and neuro-linguistic work has aimed to elucidate the mechanisms by which sentence meanings are composed by investigating the processing of semantic mismatch. One controversial case for theories of semantic composition is expressions such as the clown jumped for ten minutes, in which the aspectual properties of a punctual verb clash with those of a durative modifier. Such sentences have been proposed to involve a coercion operation which shifts the punctual meaning of the verb to an iterative one. However, processing studies addressing this hypothesis have yielded mixed results. In this study, we tested four hypotheses of how aspectual mismatch is resolved with self-paced reading and magnetoencephalography. Using a set of verbs normed for punctuality, we identified an immediate behavioral cost of mismatch. The neural correlates of this processing were found to match effects in midline prefrontal regions previously implicated in the resolution of complement coercion. We also identified earlier effects in right-lateral frontal and temporal sites. We suggest that of the representational hypotheses currently in the literature, these data are most consistent with an account where aspectual mismatch initially involves the composition of an anomalous meaning that is later repaired via coercion. 相似文献

Deliberate self-harm was studied in 14-year-old adolescents from four schools in southern Sweden with a test-retest design, using a nine-item version of the Deliberate Self-Harm Inventory. At Time 1, 40.2% of the adolescents indicated deliberate self-harm on at least one occasion compared with 36.5% at Time 2. Test-retest data showed high stability over periods of up to 2 months in duration. Cross-validation of the results from Time 1 to Time 2 showed robust correlations between deliberate self-harm and general psychopathology, a relative absence of positive feelings toward parents, and a ruminative style of emotional regulation. Further, rumination/negative thinking and a relative absence of positive feelings toward parents were predictors of self-harm independently of general psychopathology. In addition, deliberate self-harm correlated with symptoms of eating disorder and negative body esteem in girls. 相似文献

Visual system has been proposed to be divided into two, the ventral and dorsal, processing streams. The ventral pathway is
thought to be involved in object identification whereas the dorsal pathway processes information regarding the spatial locations
of objects and the spatial relationships among objects. Several studies on working memory (WM) processing have further suggested
that there is a dissociable domain-dependent functional organization within the prefrontal cortex for processing of spatial
and nonspatial visual information. Also the auditory system is proposed to be organized into two domain-specific processing
streams, similar to that seen in the visual system. Recent studies on auditory WM have further suggested that maintenance
of nonspatial and spatial auditory information activates a distributed neural network including temporal, parietal, and frontal
regions but the magnitude of activation within these activated areas shows a different functional topography depending on
the type of information being maintained. The dorsal prefrontal cortex, specifically an area of the superior frontal sulcus
(SFS), has been shown to exhibit greater activity for spatial than for nonspatial auditory tasks. Conversely, ventral frontal
regions have been shown to be more recruited by nonspatial than by spatial auditory tasks. It has also been shown that the
magnitude of this dissociation is dependent on the cognitive operations required during WM processing. Moreover, there is
evidence that within the nonspatial domain in the ventral prefrontal cortex, there is an across-modality dissociation during
maintenance of visual and auditory information. Taken together, human neuroimaging results on both visual and auditory sensory
systems support the idea that the prefrontal cortex is organized according to the type of information being maintained in

By referring to Niklas Luhmann’s theory of self-referential systems, Aldo Mascareño (2008, submitted for publication) gives an account of system-environment interrelatedness, explaining how social and individual constitute each other through the process of communication and co-creation of meanings. Two possible extensions to his account are discussed. Firstly, auto-communication within the system that happens without any external reference needs to be taken into account while describing the existence and constant re-creation of psychic systems. Case illustrations from group dynamic cognitive behavioral group therapy are presented to demonstrate three applications of functional analysis and the resulting cognitive behavioral interventions. The principles of group dynamic cognitive behavioral group therapy are explained. A functional analysis is applied first to the problem behavior of an individual group member. A clinical case illustrates how the group members help to change this individual group member's behavior from a learning theory perspective. Next, the circular interactional problem behavior between two group members is reduced to the individual functional analysis of each of the two member's problem behaviors. It is then illustrated how the two group member's problem behaviors, as well as feedback from others, contribute toward helping to change each others behavior. The paper concludes that functional analysis and ensuing behavioral interventions can be also applied to group as a whole behavior. 相似文献

The present experiment investigated whether increased media exposure could lead to an increase in memory distortions regarding a traumatic public event: the explosion of the No. 30 bus in Tavistock Square, London on 7 July 2005. A total of 150 Swedish and 150 UK participants completed a series of questionnaires about their memory of either (i) the aftermath of the explosion, (ii) a non-existent computerised reconstruction of the moment of the explosion, or (iii) non-existent closed circuit television footage of the moment of the explosion. In line with the availability heuristic, U.K. participants were more likely than Swedish participants to claim to have seen all three types of footage. Furthermore, a subsample of U.K. participants who appeared to have developed false "memories" of seeing the No. 30 bus explode scored significantly higher on measures of dissociation and fantasy proneness than participants who did not develop false "memories". This experiment provides further support for the role of imaginative processes in the development of false memories. 相似文献

This paper summarizes the major results of the study ?Optimizing psychotherapy service provision via transparency and outcome orientation: evaluating outpatient psychotherapy“ (TRANS-OP). Between September 1998 and February 2000, all insured persons of a major German health insurance company (?Deutsche Krankenversicherung“) who requested reimbursement of outpatient psychotherapy were asked to participate in the study. Comprehensive data concerning structural, process and outcome criteria of outpatient psychotherapy were collected from 714 participants and from the majority of their psychotherapists during a 2-year observation period. Participants applied for the following treatments eligible for reimbursement in the German health insurance system: psychodynamically oriented psychotherapy (52%), cognitive behavioral therapy (31%), and psychoanalytic psychotherapy (17%). The amounts of sessions claimed for reimbursement were approved almost without exception. Participants in the three treatment modalities did not differ in socio-demographic characteristics, or in initial symptom severity as assessed by standardized measures. Even though courses of improvement of the symptoms varied, therapy outcome after 2 years was similar in the three forms of treatment. In addition, a cost offset was found, i.e. medical costs, especially for hospital days, substantially decreased during the course of psychotherapy. These findings support the effectiveness as well as the economic significance of outpatient psychotherapy across different treatment modalities in routine care. However, allocation of psychotherapeutic resources should be more considerate of individual patient needs and treatment outcome. 相似文献

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is one of the key molecules modulating brain plasticity. While low circulating levels of BDNF have been suggested to predispose to Alzheimer's disease, very little data are available on its association with cognitive function in general population. We evaluated the association between plasma BDNF levels and cognition in a representative population sample of ageing men and women. The subjects (n=1389) were participants of the Dose-Responses to Exercise Training (DR's EXTRA) Study and represent a random sample of Eastern Finnish people (684 men and 705 women), 57-79 years of age at baseline of the study. Plasma BDNF levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Cognitive function was evaluated using the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease (CERAD) neuropsychological test battery. Women had a higher mean (+/-SEM) plasma BDNF level than men (1721+/-55vs. 1495+/-54pg/ml, P<0.001). In women, 1 SD decrease in BDNF increased the risk for a low score in Naming Test by 53% (95% CI 1.21-1.92, P<0.001), in Mini-Mental State Examination by 63% (95% CI 1.21-2.20, P=0.001), in Word List Memory by 56% (95% CI 1.08-2.26, P=0.019), in Word List Recall by 50% (95% CI 1.10-2.05, P=0.010), in Word List Saving by 49% (95% CI 1.12-1.99, P=0.007), and in Word List Recognition by 64% (95% CI 1.19-2.25, P=0.002). Data were adjusted for age, education, depression, impaired glucose metabolism, cardiovascular disease, antihypertensive medication, lipid lowering medication, use of sex hormones, smoking, alcohol consumption, storing time of plasma in the freezer and platelet count. BDNF was not associated with cognition in men. Present data suggest that plasma BDNF is a biomarker of impaired memory and general cognitive function in ageing women. 相似文献

This study set out to examine children’s notions of the malleability of their academic competencies and the relations of these
notions to the child’s grade-level and gender and the parent’s educational level. In interviews of a total of 103 boys and
girls of the third and the sixth grade, children of academically and vocationally educated parents were asked to rate their
potential for improving their competencies in mathematics and Finnish. The children were asked to use intrapersonal and normative
criteria in their ratings. The ratings were found to form distinct domains of the notions of malleability, as they did not
correlate with each other. The children’s ratings of their current competencies, i.e. their academic self-concepts, turned
out to be related to their normative ratings of the malleability of their competencies. The findings further suggested that
the children’s notions of the malleability of their academic competencies became more pessimistic in the course of their school
years.
