Finding Voice: The Photovoice Method of Data Collection in HIV and AIDS-Related Research

This study examined the efficacy of photovoice as a research technique to explore the lives of children and families living in the context of HIV and AIDS. Participants were volunteers at a Day Care and Support Centre (n=18), and members of a community support group consisting of People Living with AIDS (n=5). The findings revealed that the photovoice method is particularly useful for dealing with the ‘unspoken’ lived experience of children and families.     

Unintended Consequences of EEO Enforcement Policies: Being Big is Worse than Being Bad

In enforcing the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1991, it is often critical to determine whether a challenged procedure has systematic adverse impact. The use of statistical significance tests to make this determination has the perverse consequence that the size of an organization or an applicant pool has more impact on determining adverse impact than the extent to which procedures actually discriminate. That is, it is worse to be big than to be bad. We use Monte Carlo studies to illustrate this unforeseen consequence of current enforcement policies and note that a broader definition of adverse impact is clearly warranted.

《科学引文索引》(Science Citation Index,SCI)作为杂志质量的客观评价工具被引入我国后,逐渐成为我国科研评价重要的,乃至唯一的指标,对科研人员产生了强烈的导向作用,并催生了SCI论文热.比较了我国与其他国家大学及科研院所的科研评价体系和评价指标组成,分析了SCI论文在其中发挥的作用.结果表明,SCI论文在世界范围已经、正在并将继续在科研评价中发挥重要的作用,但将其唯一化、绝对化,不利于科研的发展.我国的SCI论文热也催生了国内论文服务公司的繁荣及乱象.

Resurrecting the buried self: fairy tales and the analytic encounter

The author uses the lens of myth and fairy tales to examine the narratives generated by the analytic experience. Fairy tales are understood as representing fundamental developmental conflicts, accounting for their enduring power over time. The analytic encounter is seen as an analogue of the fairy tale in which the hidden self, damaged by loss and abandonment, reemerges only through the redemptive power of [an] other's love. Clinical material is presented in which hidden parts of the patient's self are projected into the analyst for safekeeping; these hidden parts resonate with the analyst's own lost, unrealized potential and form an intersubjective experience which the author believes is transformative. The patient's dormant powers emerge in a newly experienced atmosphere of recognition, and in this way, the analytic encounter resembles the fairy tale in providing an identificatory bond and a protective space for the patient's hidden vitality.

开展保乳手术所遇困难引发的深入思考

随着医学研究的发展及人们对乳腺癌生物学行为的深入认识,保乳手术逐渐成为早期乳腺癌手术治疗的主流,但在我国开展保乳手术却困难重重,这其中既有社会、经济、文化的原因,也有患者、家属的原因,而医务人员本身的原因也不容忽视.     

恶性肿瘤患者治疗的知情权

肿瘤微创治疗在本世纪得到飞速发展,有着不可替代的优势。调查结果却显示目前患者及家属对这种治疗方法不太了解。笔者认为医务人员有义务告知恶性肿瘤患者其病情和先进的治疗方法,这有利于患者树立战胜疾病的信心,配合治疗,合理安排自己的生活。
