Getting going and letting go: Religiosity fosters opportunity‐congruent coping with work‐related uncertainties 下载免费PDF全文

This study investigated how religiosity relates to goal engagement (i.e., investing time and effort; overcoming obstacles) and goal disengagement (i.e., protecting self‐esteem and motivational resources against failure experiences; distancing from unattainable goals) in coping with perceived work‐related uncertainties (e.g., growing risk of job loss) that arise from current social change. We hypothesised that religiosity not only expands individuals' capacities for both engagement and disengagement but also fosters an opportunity‐congruent pattern of engagement and disengagement, promoting engagement especially under favourable opportunities for goal‐striving in the social ecology and facilitating disengagement especially under unfavourable opportunities. Multilevel analyses in a sample of N = 2089 Polish adults aged 20–46 years partly supported these predictions. Religiosity was associated with higher goal engagement, especially under favourable economic opportunities for goal‐striving in the social ecology (as measured by the regional net migration rate). For disengagement, the results were more mixed; religiosity was related to higher self‐protection independently of the economic opportunity structure and predicted higher goal‐distancing only under the most unfavourable opportunities. These results suggest that religiosity can promote different coping strategies under different conditions, fostering a pattern of opportunity‐congruent engagement and, to some extent, disengagement that is likely to be adaptive. 相似文献

Postural control of the lumbar spine in unstable sitting was quantified through the analysis of the center of pressure (CoP) movement recorded by a force plate situated underneath a seat that incorporated a hemisphere. Thirteen healthy subjects were tested under conditions of increasing seat instability and elimination of visual input. The purpose of this study was to determine the relative effects of visual input and support surface instability on open and closed loop postural control mechanisms in sitting and to determine the association between traditional summary statistics and random walk analysis of CoP movement. The effects of the seat instability level and visual input on the CoP movement parameters were tested with a two-factor, repeated measures ANOVA (p<0.01). In all summary statistics CoP movement parameters increased significantly due to the seat instability level and lack of visual input. The random walk analysis identified two regions, short- and long-term, which has been postulated to represent open and closed loop control mechanism, respectively. While short-term scaling exponents were independent from visual input, CoP displacement in the short-term region was significantly increased in the eyes closed condition. Summary statistic of CoP total path length per second correlated highly with critical point coordinates and short-term diffusion coefficients. The CoP movement in the long-term region was consistent with a closed loop control mechanisms. The findings of visual influence on what is assumed as an open-loop control mechanism does not, at face value, support the hypothesis that two separate mechanisms are working to achieve postural control. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThis article forms a contribution to the discussion on the “replication crisis” in psychology from the qualitative research perspective and qualitative-oriented psychology of religion. The main theme of our article is, how should we deal, as qualitative-oriented psychologists of religion, with the issue of replicability? The introductory part of the article concentrates on validity criteria within qualitative-oriented research, and why qualitative-oriented psychologists of religion should take them into consideration in their research projects. Next, a typology of approaches (Intuitive, Field, Pragmatic, Synthetic), toward replication within qualitative studies is presented. Alongside discussing the possible ways of making qualitative research more replicable, examples of good practices in that matter are discussed. Some takeaway tips for qualitative-oriented psychologists of religion, that are to be used in order to make their research more replicable, are presented in the concluding part. Promoting CAQDAS, developing clear research protocols and procedures, describing the cultural context of the research in detail and discussing methodological issues and barriers/limitations of the study in a separate section are one of the main ideas postulated in the article, that should be included in the future qualitative studies on religion (s). The article concludes with a plea of sorts, that qualitative-oriented researchers do need to pay more attention to methodological issues while designing a research project, keeping in mind that it can (and should) be replicated in the future. 相似文献
