A review of theoretical mechanisms underlying paradoxical interventions is undertaken in an effort to classify them into three broad types: redefinition, symptom escalation and crisis induction, and redirection. A list of individual and family patient characteristics and problems particularly applicable to each type of paradoxical intervention is presented along with contraindications for use. Career development is central to men's lives because occupation is closely welded to male identity. Specific issues discussed in this article include: sex role stereotypes and men's careers; the male equation of occupational success and high self esteem; the balancing of work, personal attachments and recreation; traditional and nontraditional careers; male-female employment combinations; developmental issues of mid-life and retirement; and high consumption (the result/motivator of occupational success?). The roles of general ability ( g ) and specific abilities ( s1 … sg ) were investigated in prediction of job-training-school grades. Subjects were 78,041 Air Force enlistees in 82 jobs. General ability and specific abilities were defined by scores on the first and subsequent unrotated principal components of the enlistment selection and classification test, the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. Linear models analyses revealed that s1 … s 9 added little to the prediction afforded by g. It was also determined that a common prediction equation for all jobs was almost as predictive as an equation for each job.  相似文献

One of the most serious problems facing a person coming out of prison is unemployment. Employment may be the most important aspect of offender rehabilitation. This article discusses the development of a prerelease employment orientation program. Crisis centers and hotlines are relatively new approaches to the nation's growing concern for mental health problems. In order to provide information for those beginning a center, 253 centers were surveyed regarding five major aspects of crisis center operations: screening procedures for telephone listener-counselor applicants, training procedures, services offered, types of calls received, and financing. Full employment of Vietnam-era veterans is a major goal. The success of placement efforts rests heavily upon employment service counselors. This article briefly traces the etiology and nature of our concern for. Vietnam-era vets and suggests that a successful placement program depends largely upon three factors: (a) an understanding of the characteristics of present-day veterans, (b) an awareness of allied agencies, programs, and industries comprising the network of helping services, and (c) intimate knowledge of employers, their personnel representatives, the nature of the jobs available, and the practical workings of the placement process.  相似文献

An adaptation of the “Action Maze”—a problem situation requiring manager trainees to choose between alternative courses of action, each of which leads to a new situation with new alternatives—is proposed for training counselors. Family therapy with the whole family after a divorce has taken place provides a unique opportunity for intervention. Though the spouses have legally terminated their relationship, their parenting function remains. However, this reality is often clouded by the emotional conflicts generated by the divorce. Family therapy can be useful in facilitating life in the post-divorce period. A four-part model for intervention is described. The first task is to redefine the family as existentially including all members. Next, generational boundaries are firmed in order to reduce the parentification process, often intensified by the parent's physical absence. Third, the family needs to have a replay of the history of the marriage to correct developmental distortions and offer a changce to mourn the loss of the intact family. Finally, the therapists attempt to facilitate an emotional divorce. A case study is presented to elucidate the manner in which these steps unfold in treatment.  相似文献
