The study shows that changes in relative verbal vs. figural working memory and fluency performance from one session to a second session two to 3 weeks apart covary with spontaneously occurring changes of cortical asymmetry in the lateral frontal and central cortex, measured by electroencephalography (EEG) in resting conditions before the execution of tasks. That is, it was examined whether the current state of cortical asymmetry predicts verbal vs. figural performance. The findings complete the circle from studies showing correlations between changes of EEG asymmetry in the lateral frontal cortex and changes of mood to studies showing correlations between changes of mood and changes of relative verbal vs. figural working memory and fluency performance. The study suggests that state-dependent changes of lateralized cortical activity may underlie certain cognitive-emotional interactions observed in previous studies, and supports the assumption of reciprocal influences of specific emotional and specific cognitive processes. 相似文献

For centuries economists and psychologists have argued that the morality of moral emotions lies in the fact that they stimulate prosocial behavior and benefit others in a person's social environment. Many studies have shown that guilt, arguably the most exemplary moral emotion, indeed motivates prosocial behavior in dyadic social dilemma situations. When multiple persons are involved, however, the moral and prosocial nature of this emotion can be questioned. The present article shows how guilt can have beneficial effects for the victim of one's actions but also disadvantageous effects for other people in the social environment. A series of experiments, with various emotion inductions and dependent measures, all reveal that guilt motivates prosocial behavior toward the victim at the expense of others around-but not at the expense of oneself. These findings illustrate that a thorough understanding of the functioning of emotions is necessary to understand their moral nature. 相似文献

Suicidal behavior is exhibited by a diverse population of individuals and spans many diagnostic categories. In order to develop effective prevention and treatment programs, it is important to identify transdiagnostic processes that impact the many pathways to suicidality, are amenable to intervention, and affect clinical outcomes when modified. A growing body of data suggests that experiential avoidance, or the tendency to escape or avoid unwanted psychological experiences, even when such efforts cause harm, may represent one such universal process. This article reviews theory and evidence that support mindfulness and psychological acceptance as a means to target experiential avoidance in suicidal clients and thereby reduce the risk of suicide. The article also provides two case examples of the application of mindfulness to suicidality and discusses how mindfulness may help clinicians in managing the stress associated with treating suicidal clients. 相似文献

This study was designed to evaluate the effects of a reduced threshold of the fixed automated speed enforcement system on speed and safety on a two-lane rural road. The threshold was lowered from 20 km/h to 4 km/h and the public was informed about the change. Driving speeds on the experimental and control road before and after the change were compared. The main results showed that the reduced threshold decreased the mean speed by 2.5 km/h, the standard deviation of speed by 1.1 km/h and the proportion of exceeding vehicles by 11.8 percentage units. In conclusion, lowering the threshold of automated speed enforcement combined with an appropriate information campaign bring about a significant speed reduction that could contribute to substantial safety benefits. 相似文献

The Experiences in Close Relationships Scale-Revised Child version (ECR-RC) is a self-report questionnaire measuring attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance. The aim of this study was to validate a Polish version of the ECR-RC, assess its reliability and factorial structure based on the results obtained from a community sample of 277 children aged between 10 and 13. The results of confirmatory factor analyses revealed a two-factor structure of the Polish ECR-RC that showed an adequate internal structure and consistency. Moreover, a model fit of an abbreviated, 12-item version and a three-factor structure were tested. Overall, the results of this study offer a valid and reliable tool for assessing attachment anxiety and avoidance in Polish-speaking children. 相似文献
