This study aims to examine the impact of affective states and affective shifts on ideation and evaluation of creativity. Affects were induced by a two‐stage imagination procedure of recalling autobiographical experiences. Three periods of divergent thinking were measured to represent the participants’ creative ideation at different times. Creative evaluation was measured by estimating the originality of each response provided by the participants. The results indicate that (a) during the initial period of ideation, groups with positive affect obtain better creative ideation than the groups with neutral or negative affect. (b) The ideation in positive affect groups gradually decreases over time, while the ideation in negative affect groups gradually increases over time. (c) During the evaluation of originality, groups with negative affect have a higher proportion of over‐estimates and a lower proportion of under‐estimates than groups with positive affect. The viewpoints of cognitive tuning theory, which posit that the affective state influences creativity, are supported. 相似文献

This study employs a panel smooth transition vector error correction model (PST-VECM) to explore the education-health causality. This model can grasp the characteristics of the causality in nonlinearity, heterogeneity, and time-variation. Empirical evidence from the 123 sample countries during 2001–2013 finds that the causality is nonlinear, time- and country-varying in both the long run and short run, depending on the development level of a country (measured by the human development index, HDI) in each period. For the developing and underdeveloped countries, the short run causality between education and health is unidirectional, running from education to health, whereas the long run causality is bidirectional. For the developed countries, the causality is bidirectional in both the short run and long run, and the two-way effect would be deferred from short run to long run. The policies for countries with different HDI scores to improve education and health outcomes are also provided. 相似文献

China has experienced remarkable economic growth, but that has not been associated with increases in individual well‐being, implying that well‐being may not be sensitive to increases in absolute income (AI). Thus, the relationship between well‐being and other types of income is worth investigating. This study employed a national sample of 5471 respondents from 31 provinces of China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) to compare the effects of AI, relative income (RI) and income aspirations (IA) on individual well‐being in China. The results of a hierarchical regression analysis found that, compared to AI and RI, IA explained more variation in well‐being. While culture's effect on the coping process has long been acknowledged in the stress‐coping literature conceptually, empirical evidence and attempts to discern the specific relationship between culture and coping remain very scarce. Against this backdrop, the present study applied the Cultural Transactional Theory (Chun, Moos, & Cronkite, 2006) to examine the mediating role of cultural coping behaviours (Collective, Engagement and Avoidance Coping) on the relationship between academic stress (AS) and two positive psychosocial well‐being outcome measures: Collective Self‐esteem (CSE) and Subjective Well‐being (SWB). Responses from a sample of undergraduate students in Canada (N = 328) were analysed to test a theory‐driven, hypothesised model of coping using structural equation modelling (SEM). As hypothesised, the SEM results showed that: (a) the proposed cultural coping model fit the data well; (b) Engagement Coping and Collective Coping partially mediated the association between AS and the outcomes and (c) the path relationships among the constructs were in the hypothesised directions. A set of preliminary exploratory analyses indicated that Collective Coping was most strongly endorsed by the African/Black and the Middle Eastern cultural groups as compared to other ethnic groups. Implications of the study's findings for future research and practice concerning culture, stress, and coping are discussed. 相似文献

The attentional blink paradigm was used to examine whether emotional stimuli always capture attention. The processing requirement for emotional stimuli in a rapid sequential visual presentation stream was manipulated to investigate the circumstances under which emotional distractors capture attention, as reflected in an enhanced attentional blink effect. Emotional distractors did not cause more interference than neutral distractors on target identification when perceptual or phonological processing of stimuli was required, showing that emotional processing is not as automatic as previously hypothesized. Only when semantic processing of stimuli was required did emotional distractors capture more attention than neutral distractors and increase attentional blink magnitude. Combining the results from 5 experiments, the authors conclude that semantic processing can modulate the attentional capture effect of emotional stimuli. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare the postural sway profiles of 9/10-year-old children with developmental coordination disorder and balance problems (DCD-BP, n=64) with those of non-DCD children (n=71). We measured center of pressure excursions in conditions with and without vision for 30s while standing still on the dominant leg, the non-dominant leg, or both legs. Sway area, total path length, and Romberg's quotient were analyzed. Most measures differed significantly between groups, except sway area when the children stood with vision on either the dominant leg or both legs. When standing on the dominant leg or both legs, DCD-BP children demonstrated greater total path length in all conditions and a greater sway area in without-vision conditions. DCD-BP children showed more difficulty standing on the non-dominant leg with eyes both open and closed. While boys showed results similar to the total group, the girls with DCD-BP only exhibited significant differences in three conditions with eyes closed, but not with eyes open. Analysis of Romberg's coefficient also indicated that children with DCD-BP did not over-rely on visual information. 相似文献

The present study investigated whether cooperative goals mediate the relationship between similarity in gender and self‐esteem and social support and relationship quality in ongoing peer dyads. Based on data collected from 209 student dyads, the findings largely support the mediating role of cooperative goals. The evolution of joint dynamics and muscle patterning in the shoulder and elbow was studied for cyclical line drawing tasks at different frequencies, amplitudes, and orientations in the horizontal plane. Three main modes of control were identified: elbow-centered, shoulder-centered, and elbow-shoulder, each referring to the principal joints or joint combinations that were used to achieve the behavioral goals. The contribution of the shoulder joint was most prominent across the majority of movement orientations and largely paralleled changes in the dynamic (inertial) forces in the end effector (shoulder-centered control). The two joints either exchanged roles during the performance of the right diagonal movement (elbow-centered control) or shifted from a single-joint strategy to a dual-joint strategy during the performance of large amplitudes with low or medium cycling frequencies (shoulder-elbow control). These behavioral results support the existence of a modular control mode that allows the central nervous system to effectively tune motor commands to meet a broad variety of orientations, amplitudes, and frequencies. This refers to the emergence of a context-dependent control mode for the shoulder and elbow that optimizes the implementation of the underlying motor goals under a rich combination of spatial and temporal manipulations. 相似文献
