The relevance of justice for the current debate on long-termcare is explored on the basis of demographic and economic data, especially in the U.S. and Germany. There is a justice questionconcerning the quality and availability of long-term care fordifferent groups within society. Mapping the justice debateby discussing the two main opponents, John Rawls and RobertNozick, the article identifies fundamental assumptions in boththeories. An exploration of the biblical concept of the "optionfor the poor" and its influence on a new "ecumenical socialteaching from below" leads to the conclusion that a Christianethical account of long-term care will argue for a system thatguarantees decent care to every citizen. The German model ofSoziale Pflegeversicherung is presented as one possible optionfor putting this ethical guideline into political practice. In a final reflection, the role of religious affiliation forlong-term care is discussed by looking at empirical data andby naming seven dimensions of faith-driven long-term care.  相似文献

Visual working memory (VWM) is a core construct in the cognitive (neuro‐)sciences, assumed to serve as a hub for information exchange and thus supporting a multitude of cognitive functions related to processing visual information. Here, we give an introduction into key terms and paradigms and an overview of ongoing debates in the field, to which the articles collected in this Special Issue on ‘Current Directions in Visual Working Memory Research’ contribute. Our aim is to extract, from this overview, some ‘emerging’ theoretical insights concerning questions such as the optimal way to examine VWM, which types of mental representations contribute to performance on VWM tasks, and how VWM keeps features from the same object together and apart from features of concurrently maintained objects (the binding problem).  相似文献

Studies concerning the processing of natural scenes using eye movement equipment have revealed that observers retain surprisingly little information from one fixation to the next. Other studies, in which fixation remained constant while elements within the scene were changed, have shown that, even without refixation, objects within a scene are surprisingly poorly represented. Although this effect has been studied in some detail in static scenes, there has been relatively little work on scenes as we would normally experience them, namely dynamic and ever changing. This paper describes a comparable form of change blindness in dynamic scenes, in which detection is performed in the presence of simulated observer motion. The study also describes how change blindness is affected by the manner in which the observer interacts with the environment, by comparing detection performance of an observer as the passenger or driver of a car. The experiments show that observer motion reduces the detection of orientation and location changes, and that the task of driving causes a concentration of object analysis on or near the line of motion, relative to passive viewing of the same scene.  相似文献
