Multiple-baseline and alternating treatments design elements were combined to evaluate the effects of two taped-words (TW) interventions (rapid-paced and slow-paced) on sight-word reading accuracy levels in elementary students with mental retardation. During rapid TW, one word was presented every second via tape recorder and students were instructed to read aloud along with the tape. During slow TW, words were presented every 5s. Both TW interventions increased word reading accuracy but differences in learning rates between the two TW interventions were inconsistent across participants. Although no firm conclusions can be drawn regarding which pace is more effective, results show that regardless of pace, this efficient, self-managed intervention can be used to increase sight-word reading in students with mental retardation.  相似文献

Three hundred and seventy-nine parents at 25 Air Force bases participated in a collaborative child physical abuse prevention project designed by the United States Air Force Family Advocacy Program and Father Flanagan's Boys' Home (Boys Town). These participants were active duty or civilian employee parents and their spouses who completed the Boys Town Common Sense Parenting ® program as part of a comprehensive prevention effort. We hypothesized that participants would report decreased child behavior problems, improved relationships with family members, and reduced risk for child physical abuse after attending parenting sessions. Results supported this hypothesis. The data were also analyzed to determine the frequencies of individual parents who made statistically reliable changes on the dependent measures using Jacobson's Reliable Change Index. Nineteen to 30% of the participants reported significant improvement in the areas assessed. Parents who improved in abuse risk were at a higher level of risk and were less satisfied with family relationships prior to their participation than those who did not change. Implications for prevention of child physical abuse and future directions for research are discussed.  相似文献

Three experiments were performed using a recognition probe procedure to test the subject's recognition of the order of two items from a dichotically presented list. In all three experiments subjects were unable to recognize simultaneous items as having been simultaneous unless the critical pair was the last pair in the list. In contrast, they were able to identify the order of items not originally presented simultaneously at better than a chance level. Performance did not differ as a function of whether the two critical items were presented to the same or different ears. The data were interpreted as indicating that subjects divide attention between competing inputs in the dichotic memory task and that the eary-by-ear order of report is a result of the format in which the items are stored.  相似文献

Ten hooded rats were trained to perform a two-turn task in a temporal circular maze. The effects of levels of food deprivation (2, 26, 50, 74, 98, 122 hr.) on performance were evaluated. It was found that the correct responses were not affected, but both running time and competing behaviour decreased significantly with increase in hours of food deprivation. In a second experiment 8 rats were trained in a similar way and after attaining a stable performance, were run for a further 4 sessions at 24 hr. deprivation, and then at 72 hr. deprivation. The results precluded the possibility that the results obtained in Experiment I were due to practice effects, and support the findings on the effects of deprivation.  相似文献

The provision of psychological care for people with HIV/AIDS in the last decade has led to a demand for professional supervision of counsellors and other professionals who work with this patient group. While there are many similarities in the supervisory process with professionals working with patients with other medical and psychological problems, there are also unique and specific issues which stem from working with people with HIV/AIDS. Some of these are discussed in this paper. The supervisory process described relates to a systemic conceptual framework. Tasks in clinical supervision and dijiculties in supervision are highlighted. Suggestions are offered for setting up and developing supervision sessions in clinical practice.  相似文献

The verbal interactions of adult males and females with trained girl and boy confederates were compared in an unstructured and an immediately following structured situation. Women did not respond differently based on the child's gender in either situation, while men spoke more and used longer mean length of utterances with the boys than with the girls in the unstructured situation. In the structured situation males did not respond differently to girls and boys, speaking more to both than did females. Correlations between the number of words spoken in female-child pairs were higher, suggesting a greater reciprocity of interaction, than for male-child pairs in both situations. The results are seen as reflecting the outcome of differential sex-role socialization for men and women, especially with respect to children, with females socialized to relate with others and men to need to dominate others.  相似文献

A within-subjects analysis of the relationship between memory span and processing rate for four stimulus classes in short-term memory indicated that while the two factors are correlated when averaged data is considered, as shown by Cavanagh (Psychological Review, 1972, 79, 525–530), the strength of the relationship for individual subjects varies from zero to unity. The intersubject correlations for each stimulus class were not consistent with the view that a unified model may be advanced to account for performance in recall and recognition tasks in shortterm memory.  相似文献

Two groups of university students were presented with auditory lists of temporally grouped words for recall. The lists were immediately followed by either a redundant suffix, a nonredundant suffix or no suffix. One group of subjects was instructed to recall the items in strict serial order; the second group was required to write the last items first, indicating the position of all items in the list. According to Kahneman's (1973) account of the suffix effect, the interfering effect of the suffix should be eliminated when the suffix is segregated in a different group or perceptual unit from the memory items. The results did not support the prediction from Kahneman's hypothesis. An alternative account of the suffix effect was presented.  相似文献

Previous work has shown that mice missing the α-isoform of calcium–calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (α-CaMKII) have a deficiency in CA1 hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP). Follow-up studies on subsequent generations of these mutant mice in a novel inbred background by our laboratories have shown that whereas a deficiency in CA1 LTP is still present in α-CaMKII mutant mice, it is different both quantitatively and qualitatively from the deficiency first described. Mice of a mixed 129SvOla/SvJ;BALB/c;C57Bl/6 background derived from brother/sister mating of the α-CaMKII mutant line through multiple generations (>10) were produced by use of in vitro fertilization. Although LTP at 60 min post-tetanus was clearly deficient in these (−/−) α-CaMKII mice (42.6%, n=33) compared with (+/+) α-CaMKII control animals (81.7%, n=17), α-CaMKII mutant mice did show a significant level of LTP. The amount of LTP observed in α-CaMKII mutants was normally distributed, blocked by APV (2.7%, n=8), and did not correlate with age. Although this supports a role for α-CaMKII in CA1 LTP, it also suggests that a form of α-CaMKII-independent LTP is present in mice that could be dependent on another kinase, such as the β-isoform of CaMKII. A significant difference in input/output curves was also observed between (−/−) α-CaMKII and (+/+) α-CaMKII animals, suggesting that differences in synaptic transmission may be contributing to the LTP deficit in mutant mice. However, tetani of increasing frequency (50, 100, and 200 Hz) did not reveal a higher threshold for potentiation in (−/−) α-CaMKII mice compared with (+/+) α-CaMKII controls.  相似文献
