Responses to the recent critical comments of Gerald Siegel to the demands and capacities model are given. A brief history of the model's development is followed by direct explanations of its empirical support and logical development. It appears that Dr. Siegel may have referred only to one of our publications on the model. His concern about difficulties in measuring capacities is also addressed. In two investigations, participants were asked to evaluate eight different young adults (Study 1) and children (Study 2) who
had described (a) a situation in which they had offered assistance to another individual and (b) the reason why they had offered
the assistance in that situation. Although other-oriented helpers and their motives were generally rated more favorably than
self-oriented helpers and their motives, participants' evaluations were found to be influenced by the closeness of the helper-recipient
relationship, the type of help provided (i.e., instrumental vs. expressive), and the participants' gender. A similar pattern

A significant proportion of infants receiving treatment in programs designed to prevent abuse and psychosocial disorders may be removed from the custody of their parents by social service agencies. In an effort to help distinguish those cases at risk for termination of parental rights (TPR), seven such cases were analyzed and compared to seven similar cases where TPR did not occur. All 14 cases were referred because of abuse/neglect, and were at risk for continued abuse. Results showed that TPR was most likely in families where the parents were viewed as being unpleasant, as having a poor relationship with their child, were seen as retarded by the social service agency, and whose infants showed large gains in developmental level, especially during foster placement. These findings were interpreted as indicating a mixture of actual lack of progress in treatment and a negative attitudinal set about these clients. 相似文献

The period of the United Kingdom's Labour government, 1997–2010, saw two strident policy vectors. One was in the promotion
of the creative industries as a lever for urban regeneration and national renewal in the face of the decline of its manufacturing
base and the globalisation of its economy. The second was in the increased emphasis on financialisation to underpin both corporate
and public sectors. Both of these were, in fact, intensifications of former Conservative policies developed through the early
1990s. This paper reviews some changes in the UK government policy on design, principally through its Design Council, as a
function of the political economy during this period. It draws attention to important shifts in the professional practice
of design and governmental promotion and use thereof—especially of service design and “design thinking”—that suggest a new
attitudinal approach as to its role. It then places these shifts next to changes in public sector management and thinking.
In particular, we see how certain conceptions and practices of design become embedded in its signalling of value in potentia

Listening has powerful organizational consequences. However, studies of listening have typically focused on individual level processes. Alternatively, we hypothesized that perceptions of listening quality are inherently dyadic, positively reciprocated in dyads, and are correlated positively with intimacy, speaking ability, and helping-organizational-citizenship behavior, at the dyadic level. In two studies, teammates rated each other on listening and intimacy; in one, they also rated speaking ability, and helping-organizational-citizenship behavior, totaling 324 and 526 dyadic ratings, respectively. In both studies, social relations modeling suggested that the dyad level explained over 40 percent of the variance in both listening and intimacy, and yielded the predicted positive dyadic reciprocities. Furthermore, as predicted, listening perceptions correlated with intimacy, speaking ability, and helping behavior as reported by other workers, primarily at the dyadic level. Moreover, rating of listening, but not of speaking, by one dyad member, predicted intimacy reported by the other dyad member, and that intimacy, in turn, predicted helping-organizational-citizenship behavior. Counterintuitively, listening quality is more a product of the unique combination of employees than an individual difference construct. We conclude that perceived listening, but not perceived speaking, appears to be the glue that binds teammates to each other dyadically, and consequently affects helping. 相似文献
