The scope of student victimization occurring on college campuses is problematic, drawing the attention of researchers and campus officials. While most researchers of the disclosure of these unwanted experiences tend to examine just 1 form of victimization, a direct comparison of the disclosure of different types of campus victimization within a singular study is missing in the literature. The current study aimed to address this issue by examining 4 types of victimization experiences (unwanted sexual contact, unwanted sexual intercourse, intimate partner violence, and stalking) in a college population. A common set of possible predictors of disclosure were examined, including both demographic (e.g., gender, race, age) and situational factors (e.g., alcohol use, level of fear, relationship with perpetrator). While patterns of similarity across all victimization experiences emerged, the impact of gender, race, age, and alcohol use on disclosure decisions varied substantially by victimization type. The findings of this study address the gap in the current literature by providing a comparison and contrast of the influence of predictors across different types of victimization. Furthermore, the findings provide needed information that could help colleges and universities develop ways to encourage support-seeking and reporting among students. 相似文献

Critical reflection potentially allows social work and human service (SWHS) students to understand how past experiences can shape their future practice. This study of 20 Australian undergraduate SWHS students with a history of childhood adversity found reflective writing for this purpose was not a useful pedagogical practice. Rather than developing skills in critical reflection students found the task performative, linked to academic requirements, where they needed to display emotional containment. Consequently, SWHS academics need to examine reflective writing about childhood adversity for assessment as this process may not enable students to build skills in critical reflection that drive professional development. 相似文献

In the first decade of the 21st century, British policing faced two new challenges in how it responded to social diversity: As well as instituting reforms in response to a highly publicized report describing the British police as ‘institutionally racist’ (Macpherson, 1999 ), they faced challenges associated with rapid increases in numbers of immigrants into the UK. Studying social representations at such times of change allows access into processes, themes and value systems that may otherwise remain hidden. This paper uses social representations theory to explore interview accounts provided by regular police officers of interactions with members of minority groups. Empirically, we focus on an area of diversity policing that has received relatively little previous attention: Police work in a rural context that has recently played host to large numbers of migrant workers. Our analysis shows that interviews operate as a site of resistance in which respondents attempt to rework hegemonic representations of the police as prejudiced and to re‐present themselves and their work as able to respond appropriately to diversity. Fairness as a defining characteristic of good police practice is a central representational theme that links identity construction processes to police work with minority groups. Recent immigrant groups are represented as both needing and deserving help to assimilate into British culture: Their lack of acculturation and language difficulties provide additional challenges to police work and to how this is judged as ‘fair’. We discuss the broader origins and implications of police officers' understandings of fairness and the use of social representations theory to study representational fields within organizational settings. The experiences of mothers of adult offspring with Angelman, Cornelia de Lange, or Cri du Chat syndrome have not been previously
explored in research. The current study focuses on experiences with social and medical services and the impact the rareness
of an adult offspring’s syndrome has on the experiences of mothers. Eight mothers of adults with Angelman, Cornelia de Lange,
or Cri du Chat syndrome were interviewed. Thematic Content Analysis was used to interpret the interviews. Four themes emerged
from the analysis: (i) The rarity of their offspring’s syndrome, (ii) Uneven medical and social care service provision, (iii)
The inertia of social care services, and (iv) Mothers as advocates. Mothers felt that the rareness of their offspring’s syndrome
did not affect experiences with social care services, but did affect access to medical services and some aspects of day-to-day
living. Accessing appropriate social care services was reported to be a lengthy and complex process. These data may help inform

Previous research has indicated that the blockade of H(3)-type histamine receptors may improve attention and memory in normal rodents. The purpose of this study was to determine if ciproxifan, an H(3) receptor antagonist, could alleviate the hyperactivity and cognitive deficits observed in a transgenic mouse model (APP(Tg2576)) of Alzheimer's disease. APP(Tg2576) mice displayed significantly greater locomotor activity than wild-type mice, but APP(Tg2576) mice provided with daily ciproxifan treatment showed activity levels that did not differ from wild-type mice. In the swim maze, APP(Tg2576) mice exhibited significantly longer escape latencies, but the APP(Tg2576) mice treated daily with ciproxifan had latencies that were indistinguishable from controls. In probe trials conducted one hour after the last training trial, ciproxifan-treated APP(Tg2576) mice spent more time near the previous platform location and made more crossings of this area than did saline-treated APP(Tg2576) mice. APP(Tg2576) mice also demonstrated a significant impairment in the object recognition task that was reversed by acute treatment with ciproxifan (3.0mg/kg). These data support the idea that modulation of H(3) receptors represents a novel and viable therapeutic strategy in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. 相似文献
