The Violence Risk Scale-Sexual Offender version (VRS-SO) is a rating scale designed to assess risk and predict sexual recidivism, to measure and link treatment changes to sexual recidivism, and to inform the delivery of sexual offender treatment. The VRS-SO comprises 7 static and 17 dynamic items empirically or conceptually linked to sexual recidivism. Dynamic items with higher ratings identify treatment targets linked to sexual offending. A modified stages of change model assesses the offender's treatment readiness and change. File-based VRS-SO ratings were completed on 321 sex offenders followed up an average of 10 years post-release. VRS-SO scores predicted sexual and nonsexual violent recidivism post-release and demonstrated acceptable interrater reliability and concurrent validity. A factor analysis of the dynamic items generated 3 factors labeled Sexual Deviance, Criminality, and Treatment Responsivity, all of which predicted sexual recidivism and were differentially associated with different sex offender types. The dynamic items together made incremental contributions to sexual recidivism prediction after static risk was controlled for. Positive changes in the dynamic items, measured at pre- and posttreatment, were significantly related to reductions in sexual recidivism after risk and follow-up time were controlled for, suggesting that dynamic items are indeed dynamic or changeable in nature. 相似文献

Some researchers argue that task switching involves task-set reconfiguration-that is, changing the existing task set to perform
a different task. Although this idea is intriguing, it is often unclear what is reconfigured and which processes are involved
in reconfiguration. We addressed these issues by defining task sets, identifying differences between them, and obtaining evidence
that was diagnostic of reconfiguration. In two experiments, subjects performed relative judgment tasks that involved comparing
a target with a reference point that repeated or switched across trials. The task was the same on every trial, but the task
set was not, because a task-set parameter-the reference point-had to be changed. Target-reference point distance effects that
changed with the reference point provided diagnostic evidence that reconfiguration occurred, and this reconfiguration led
to switch costs. We discuss how our approach can be generalized to define reconfiguration more clearly in other task-switching

Opposition to wind farm developments has been seen as a significant threat to climate change mitigation policies in the UK. This paper considers the complex of different factors that may lie behind such oppositional activism and the role of emotion within these. Drawing on a programme of interviews it then explores in detail the ways in which industry and policy actors construct the role of emotion in wind farm opposition and in decisions on planning permission, often as an unwelcome intrusion into a supposedly rational process. The consequences of such understandings of opposition for the shaping of public engagement practices and for the nature and quality of public debate are examined. 相似文献

Research has shown that the visual system’s sensitivity to variations in luminance (visual contrast) within a particular area of the retina is affected in a bottom-up fashion by the ambient contrast levels in nearby regions. Specifically, changes in the ambient contrast in areas surrounding the target area alter the sensitivity to visual contrast within the target area. More recent research has shown that paying attention to the target or target area modulates contrast sensitivity, suggesting a top-down influence over contrast sensitivity that is mediated by attention. Here we report another form of top-down influence over contrast sensitivity that is unlikely to be mediated by attention. In particular, we show that knowledge and/or expectations about the levels of visual contrast that may appear in upcoming targets also affect how sensitive the observer is to the contrast in the target. This sort of knowledge-driven, top-down contrast sensitivity control could be used to preset the visual system’s contrast sensitivity to maximize discriminability and to protect contrast-sensitive processes from a contrast overload. Overall, our results suggest that existing models of contrast sensitivity might benefit from the inclusion of top-down control mechanisms. 相似文献

ABSTRACT— Everyone knows that attention to the details disrupts skilled performance, but little empirical evidence documents this fact. We show that attention to the hands disrupts skilled typewriting. We had skilled typists type words preceded by cues that told them to type only the letters assigned to one hand or to type all of the letters. Cuing the hands disrupted performance markedly, slowing typing and increasing the error rate (Experiment 1); these deleterious effects were observed even when no keystrokes were actually inhibited (Experiment 3). However, cuing the same letters with colors was not disruptive (Experiment 2). We account for the disruption with a hierarchical control model, in which an inner loop controls the hands and an outer loop controls what is typed. Typing letters using only one hand requires the outer loop to monitor the inner loop's output; the outer loop slows inner-loop cycle time to increase the likelihood of inhibiting responses with the unwanted hand. Korean writing is a syllabary where spaces occur between phrases rather than between words. This characteristic of Korean
allows different types of information in Korean sentences to be dissociated in ways that are not possible in the languages
that have been the focus of most psycholinguistic research, thereby providing new opportunities to investigate mechanisms
of ambiguity resolution during sentence comprehension. In experiments using eye-tracking and self-paced reading, we examined
how readers resolve the Eojoel ambiguity, where the grouping of syllables is ambiguous with respect to whether a phrase-final syllable is a case marker or a part
of a word. This Eojoel ambiguity offers an opportunity to test how relative frequency of the lexical entries and complexity
of morphological decomposition affect ambiguity resolution. Overall, the results of the experiments presented here showed
that readers noticed and processed the Eojoel ambiguity very rapidly using information about the relative frequency of alternative
interpretations, while the complexity of the morphological decomposition had little effect. These results are discussed in
terms of constraint-based accounts (MacDonald et al. Psychol Rev 101:676–703, 1994) of ambiguity resolution. 相似文献

Direct and indirect aggression were studied in college students from China (women n=122; men n=97), a highly collectivistic culture; the US (women n=137; men n=136), a highly individualistic culture; and Poland (women n=105; men n=119), a culture with intermediate levels of collectivism and individualism. Consistent with a hypothesis derived from national differences in relative levels of collectivism and individualism, both direct and indirect aggression were higher in the US than in Poland and higher in Poland than in China. For young people aged 16–24, the transition from adolescence to young adulthood involves predictable and unpredictable changes
and they may encounter challenges in their roles, relationships, and responsibilities. Young people with mental health difficulties
face additional challenges as they and their families navigate this transition. As a result, families commonly experience
anxiety, uncertainty, frustration, and turbulent relationships. After learning to become advocates to secure appropriate services
for their children, in late adolescence and young adulthood, parents are likely to find themselves excluded from their children’s
treatment planning and services. This article reports findings from a recent qualitative study of the experiences and perceptions
of 42 family members supporting their children with mental health difficulties during the transition years. Family members
described their goals for their children, their frustrations trying to access appropriate services for their children, and
their strategies to provide the support their children needed. Recommendations are for service providers to connect transition
age youth with practical assistance and supportive mentoring relationships. Family members requested service providers to
consider them as resources and potential collaborators in supporting young people with mental health difficulties to live
