Noting the central role accorded imitation in the origins of symbolic functioning, language development, and identity formation, as well as its relationship to aspects of individuation, the authors have reviewed the problem of imitation from both cognitive developmental and psychoanalytic perspectives. They have specifically delineated piagetian views regarding the origins of imitation and traced its relationship to the emergence of language, while attempting to clarify various psychoanalytic formulations on this topic. This dual theoretical perspective is then reconsidered within the framework of the current empirical infancy literature. Pathological sequelae of imitation are also reviewed in relation to their impact upon ego formation and the process of socialization. Tracing a cognitive developmental line, the authors then discuss the relationship between imitation and the emergence of language; language is also considered as an important vehicle of communication which furthers and enhances ego development and object relations. The authors conclude with a partial integration of piagetian and psychoanalytic hypotheses regarding imitation and identity formation with the aim of stimulating further discussion on this topic. 相似文献

This research series began as a test of an emotion-attribution approach to moral behavior. However, in the early studies, college students who read about morality were subsequently more likely to cheat on a vocabulary test than were control subjects who read materials irrelevant to morality. We hypothesized that resentment toward the test constructors interacted with the moral schemas activated by the reading task. To reduce resentment, in Study III the vocabulary test was presented as the experimenter's doctoral research. As predicted, compared to controls, those subjects who read about morality cheated less. Study IV was a quasi-experiment that confirmed the hypothesized resentment differences between Study III and the earlier studies. In Study V, while two groups read about morality, one group read an internal emotion-attribution passage and the other read an external version; less cheating was observed in the internal condition than in the external or control conditions. The results indicate that even when moral schemas are elicited under conditions favoring moral behavior, those schemas will lead to reduced cheating most effectively under conditions in which subjects attribute their emotional arousal to their own behavior rather than to external causes. The era of microprocessors provides an opportunity for examination and restructuring of university-level education in psychology. Computers may aid in the development of environments based upon sustained and deepening inquiry on the part of students from their earliest contact with psychology. We have been developing a computerized system for the exercise of skills in psychological inquiry appropriate both as a teaching tool for beginning undergraduates and for the research of permanent and visiting professors. Nicotinic receptor dysfunction and impaired semantic memory occur early in Alzheimer's disease patients (AD). Previous research implied that nicotine's ability to enhance alertness, arousal, and cognition in a number of nonclinical populations was a function of its ability to stimulate CNS nicotinic cholinergic receptors. In this study it was hypothesized that transdermal administration of nicotine would increase both regional cerebral glucose metabolism (rCMRglc) and semantic memory (as assessed by verbal fluency). Two mild AD and two elderly controls underwent positron emission tomography scanning during a double blind nicotinic agonist verbal fluency challenge procedure. rCMRglc increases occurred in both AD patients, but not controls. In the two AD patients, verbal fluency scores increased by an average of 17%. One elderly control's verbal fluency increased, and the other decreased. These findings suggest that nicotine's effect on metabolism and verbal fluency is due to its ability to stimulate the cholinergic system. 相似文献

The major question which this research examinedis whether informal integration is likely to result incareer advancement and perceived resources within twodifferent organizational contexts (plural and multicultural). Specifically, we examinedinteractions of race, gender, and organization type onthe above two outcome variables. In pluralorganizations, employees are expected to assimilate intothe dominant culture, while in multicultural organizations,cultural change for the individual and the organizationis reciprocal. Hypotheses were tested with a combinedsample of 101 men, 35 women, 29 persons of color, and 107 whites. Results indicated that,congruent with predictions, greater social integrationoccurred in an organizational context in which valuingdifferences was a priority. Further, the influence of informal integration on career advancement wasstill important even after controlling for suchvariables as age, organizational tenure, education, andhierarchical level within the organization. In the late nineteenth century and through much of the twentieth century, the notion of the early developmental autonomy of motor behavior pervaded behavioral embryology and the developmental psychology of infant behavior. In the midst of this predeterministic climate of opinion concerning motor development, Myrtle McGraw briefly and tentatively broached the probabilistic epigenetic notion of a bidirectional or reciprocal relationship between structural maturation and function, whereby structural maturation of the nervous system is influenced by functional activity as well as the other way around. Myrtle McGraw thus anticipated our current understanding of the role of experience in the cortical and motor maturation of infants in the first year of postnatal life. It is all the more remarkable that she made this contribution when the theoretical climate of opinion was epitomized by predeterministic epigenetic thinking. Recovery after perinatal cerebral traumatism was studied in a group of 20 traumatized infants. The effects on the sequence of development during the next 6 months were observed for both motor and cognitive development and were compared with a control group of 20 normal babies. Results showed a significant delay for the abnormal group and a different recovery pattern between these two aspects of development. Motor development reached a normal level at 4 months, whereas cognitive development was still impaired at 6 months. These results were discussed in terms of possibly longer effects of perinatal traumatism on higher cortical functions than on motor functions. 相似文献

The relationship of type of home of origin [alcoholic parent(s) versus nonalcoholic parent(s)] to locus of control was assessed. Perceived level of parental alcohol abuse (MAST score) did not predict 121 students' locus of control.
