Fashion has evolved into an unsustainable industry; fast fashion, which has a low‐cost, high‐volume focus is the dominant business strategy, resulting in vast resource use and environmental externalities. The purpose of this research is to support the transition to a more circular industry through exploring the opportunity for short‐term garment rental as a part of a product‐service shift. A number of consumer barriers exist to the adoption of novel business models. Included is the issue of contamination; literature suggests that an item may be considered contaminated when another person or object interacts with it. This poses a fundamental conflict to the garment rental proposition. This study furthers understanding of contamination through a qualitative content analysis of 566 online reviews of two existing fashion rental providers. This enables insight into the actual customer experience, revealing a range of contamination incidences—most commonly visual and odour‐related. The impact of a contamination event on the customer experience was overwhelmingly recorded as negative, at worst resulting in total rejection of the entire rental concept. The analysis suggests that contamination presents a psychological and practical obstacle to successful rental. A range of managerial implications were raised with corresponding recommendations offered to mitigate and reduce contamination across the value chain. The study highlights that trade‐offs exist between product quality and commercial profitability. Findings suggest that rental is likely to be a challenging business model, raising the need for further academic and practitioner research to augment the findings.  相似文献

Data collected in seven separate samples in three countries (the USA, Canada and Israel) were used to examine the relationships between perceptions of one’s organization (climate, commitment), beliefs about appraisal systems (self‐efficacy, uses of appraisal) and raters’ orientations to appraisal systems (confidence and comfort) and specific rating behaviors. We obtained good fits for structural models suggesting that attitudes and beliefs accounted for substantial variance in raters’ likelihood of giving high or low ratings, willingness to discriminate good from poor performers, and willingness to discriminate among various aspects of job performance when completing actual performance ratings. Proximal attitudes and beliefs (i.e., those directly related to the performance appraisal system) appear to have stronger links to rating behavior than do more distal attitudes (i.e., attitudes toward the organization in general).  相似文献

The effects of arm length, spatial separation between angles, size of angle, and practice on the degree of misalignment in a modified version of Morinaga’s illusion were assessed. Size of angle was manipulated between subjects (n=15/group), whereas arm length, spatial separation, and practice were varied within subjects. Results showed: (1) that as the length of the arm increased, the degree of illusion decreased; (2) that as spatial separation increased, the degree of illusion increased; and (3) an interaction between size of angle and practice. The results were related to Day et al.’s (1982) assimilation theory of Morinaga’s illusion.  相似文献

In Experiment 1 neither hearing nor prelingually deaf signing adolescents showed marked lateralization for lexical decision but, unlike the hearing, the deaf were not impaired by the introduction of pseudohomophones. In Experiment 2 semantic categorization produced a left hemisphere advantage in the hearing for words but not pictures whereas in the deaf words and signs but not pictures showed a right hemisphere advantage. In Experiment 3 the lexical decision and semantic categorization findings were confirmed and both groups showed a right hemisphere advantage for a face/nonface decision task. The possible effect of initial language acquisition on the development of hemispheric lateralization for language is discussed.  相似文献

A growing concern exists among educators regarding the prevalence and impact of bullying behavior in the public schools. This behavior has serious repercussions for school climate and school safety in general. In addition, strong indicators suggest bullying behavior appears to be a precursor for community violence. Studies indicate that educators are not fully aware of the prevalence or the seriousness of bullying behavior in schools. A need exists to assess systematically the extent to which bullying behavior may be present in a given school. The critical features of several bullying assessment instruments were examined. In response to the growing concern regarding bullying, a large number of programs designed to address bullying are emerging. However, it is recommended that before selecting a program three criteria should be considered: the program (a) is supported by research; (b) is based on sound behavioral principles; and (c) emphasizes teaching prosocial behavior to replace bullying behavior.  相似文献

The question of the place of experience within spiritual development has been a vexed one. Believers in a spirituality unbounded by limitations of culture and religion advocate education into the experience of one's “true self” whereas believers in a communal notion of spirituality encourage educators to embed their programs of spiritual development within the myths and archetypes of society.

I aim to show, with reference to an action research project, that spiritual development is best facilitated via these commonly appreciated myths, legends and stories and that the affective dimension is insufficient on its own.

Nevertheless, I take issue with the charge that experiential methods are based on a kind of post‐modernist romanticism and are necessarily solipsistic or relativistic. The post‐modernism of our times repudiates romanticism and the assumption of a unitary consciousness. Spiritual development, in the final instance is to do with recognising a consciousness which is shared.  相似文献

This paper is a brief account of the Australian Strategic Review of the Psychology Discipline and its Research. Issues discussed include Australia's contribution to world research in psychological science, research funding, the age and qualifications of researchers, the social and economic benefits arising from the applications of research outcomes, multidisciplinary issues, the role of psychology in industry, links between the discipline and the profession of psychology, professional training, cross-cultural issues, and educational issues. An inexpensive and simple device that can be fitted to existing computer visual display units and that gives a limited touch input capability is described. Small transparent acrylic pieces are held in front of the CRT by stiff wires attached to microswitches. In a previous short report the author described a pilot investigation into the effectiveness or a Social Skills training group for chronic patients in a psychiatric day hospital. (Shepherd, 1977). The results were not encouraging and there is still a shortage of evidence from controlled trials concerning the effectiveness of social skills training with clinical populations (Hersen and Bellack, 1976). These authors also comment on the tendency to ignore the problem of how to generalise treatment gains from one setting to another and the failure to incorporate generalisation procedures into treatment programmes.Our own preliminary findings caused us to make a number of changes in procedure. These may be summarized as: (1) an increase in the duration and frequency of treatment sessions, (2) a much greater emphasis on setting targets, organising reinforcements, and even conducting complete sessions, in contexts other than the treatment group, and (3) a greater attempt to take account of individual differences and their influence on treatment outcome. In this connection it seemed important to acknowledge the role of cognitive factors in social problems (Nichols, 1974), and also the special learning difficulties of schizophrenic patients as highlighted by the recent research on their information-processing deficits (Hemsley, 1977). The details of these changes in technique and a fuller discussion of their theoretical rationale can be found in Shepherd (1978). The present paper reports the results of a second trial using these modified procedures.  相似文献
