Conclusion There are many loose ends in this study and I shall make no effort to tie them together in some neat summary. I trust that my basic sympathies with Dewey have been clear throughout. What I have discovered in the course of writing this is that reflecting upon Dewey's work in the light of contemporary problems and schools of philosophy not only casts light on these problems and schools but enhances one's appreciation for the distinctiveness, coherence and value of his work.  相似文献

Although most counselor education programs offer at least one course in group counseling, there is little evidence that a supervised group counseling practicum is a part of the training of most counselors. This article explores initial group leader anxiety and the importance of the personal involvement of the counselor in facilitating a group. Reactions of counselors to their first group leadership experience are presented to emphasize the personal, theoretical, and practical learning counselors can achieve from a supervised experience.  相似文献

This paper generalizes thep* model for dichotomous social network data (Wasserman & Pattison, 1996) to the polytomous case. The generalization is achieved by transforming valued social networks into three-way binary arrays. This data transformation requires a modification of the Hammersley-Clifford theorem that underpins thep* class of models. We demonstrate that, provided that certain (non-observed) data patterns are excluded from consideration, a suitable version of the theorem can be developed. We also show that the approach amounts to a model for multiple logits derived from a pseudo-likelihood function. Estimation within this model is analogous to the separate fitting of multinomial baseline logits, except that the Hammersley-Clifford theorem requires the equating of certain parameters across logits. The paper describes how to convert a valued network into a data array suitable for fitting the model and provides some illustrative empirical examples.This research was supported by grants from the Australian Research Council, the National Science Foundation (#SBR96-30754), and the National Institute of Health (#PHS-1RO1-39829-01).  相似文献

This study was designed to assess the levels of support provided by grandparents for families who had grandchildren with disabilities. A questionnaire survey of parents was used to assess the levels of practical, financial and emotional support they received from the children's grandparents. Parents were also questioned about their satisfaction with this support. Overall levels of support were low but most parents were nevertheless generally satisfied with the support they had received. However, a quarter of the grandparents were considered to have added to the parent's problems and almost a third of the parents expressed a wish for more support from grandparents.  相似文献

A developmental model of counselling, based on humanistic principals of psychological functioning, is proposed. A psycho-educational approach, in which counsellors are seen as helping clients develop skills rather than solve problems, is discussed. The counselling model involves three stages: exploration, intervention and empowering. Relational discrepancy theory proposes that discrepancies in the extents to which relational partners meet relational standards are associated with emotions and that perceiving relationships in specified ways moderates associations. In a range of relationships, ideal relational discrepancies were associated with dejection and ought relational discrepancies with agitation (Study 1), associations moderated by relationship type. Discrepancy valence also moderated ideal discrepancy associations. Similar associations were found in friendships, moderated by relationship type (Study 2). Finally, relationship type and valence moderated associations in relationships with supervisors but not with colleagues (Study 3).
