This study aims to discover whether observers with the same cultural background as the inhabitant of a bedroom perceive common characteristics among the inhabitants. The study was carried out with 107 females who were asked to assess the inhabitants of eight bedrooms. Several slides of each bedroom were shown to participants and they had to choose from a list of seventy-six characteristics those that defined the resident of each bedroom. Results revealed that socio-demographic variables thus attributed coincided with the profiles of the inhabitants. A correspondence analysis brought to light a dimension linked to affective aspects, which was more prominent among women; whereas among men the characteristics thus attributed were more linked to practical aspects and to difficulties for social interaction. A second study was conducted to determine whether gender stereotype had any influence on the result of the previous study. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relation between gender and sex with the sexual behavior of adolescents. The sample comprised 815 teenagers (M=15.65, Sd.=1.42). The assessment instruments were the BEM Sex Role Inventory, the Sexual Opinion Survey, the Questionnaire of Risk Perception of Bayés and a questionnaire designed for the study. The results revealed that the majority of adolescents do not match the traditional gender stereotypes, defining themselves as adrogynes (34.4%). The teenagers who are defined as adrogynes or masculine carry out more sexual behaviors, and who display more erotophilia. The need to include the variable "gender" as a category of analysis in research on sexual behavior is indicated. 相似文献

In 1975, Imre Lakatos and Elie Zahar claimed that the determination of planetary distances represents excess empirical content of Copernicus’s theory over that of Ptolemy. This claim provoked an interesting discussion during the first half of the 1980s. The discussion started when Alan Chalmers affirmed that it is not correct to attribute this advantage to the Copernican system over the Ptolemaic. Other scholars criticized Chalmers’s assertion, reaffirming the position of Lakatos and Zahar: one went even further, asserting that Copernicus has not one but two methods for calculating distances, even though this claim was subsequently also criticized. But all participants assumed that Ptolemy has no method for calculating planetary distances. In this article, I argue that this is not correct. I argue, in fact, that Ptolemy has two independent methods for calculating the distances of some of the planets and, therefore, as far as the calculation of planetary distances is concerned, Ptolemy’s system surpasses that of Copernicus. 相似文献

Responses to stimuli are faster when the stimulus location spatially corresponds to the required response (standard Simon
effect). Recently, a similar effect has been observed with monocular stimuli. Responses were faster when the response location
and the stimulated eye corresponded (monocular Simon effect). It has been suggested that distinct mechanisms may underlie
these two Simon effects. Here, we attempted to study these two mechanisms simultaneously. For mean reaction time, a finding
of perfect additivity was obtained. These behavioral data coupled with surface electrophysiological measures support the view

The present study investigated whether offset cues have the same attentional consequences in the spatial Stroop effect as
onset cues. Experiments 1 and 2 compared the attentional effects of onset–offset cues versus offset cues on the spatial Stroop
effect, whereas Experiment 3 compared the attentional effects of onset versus offset cues. Across these experiments, independent
of cue type (onset–offset or onset vs. offset) and even at long stimulus-onset asynchrony, attentional cueing did not revert
into inhibition of return and was modulated by spatial Stroop with greater cueing effects for incongruent arrow’s direction
and position. In addition, onset–offset or onset and offset cues produced comparable cueing effects in the location-direction
congruent condition, and onset–offset or onset cues produced greater facilitation than offset cues in the incongruent condition.
From a different perspective, peripheral cueing modulated the spatial Stroop effect in the same direction for onset–offset
or onset and offset cues, although the reduction in spatial Stroop at cued locations was smaller with offset than with onset–offset

There is increased recognition of the importance of children learning how to regulate emotions in a functional and adaptive
manner for healthy psychological development. However, there is a paucity of tools for assessing emotion regulation during
the middle childhood and adolescent years. This study reports on the psychometric evaluation of the 16-item self-report Emotion
Regulation Index for Children and Adolescents (ERICA) involving a sample of 1,389 (768 girls, 621 boys) Australian children
and adolescents aged 9 to 16 years. Convergent validity for the ERICA is reported with measures of self-conscious emotions
(shame, guilt), empathy, childhood depressive symptomatology, and the perceived parenting dimensions of Care and Overprotection.
Construct validity assessment using Principal Components Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis yielded three factors:
(1) Emotional Control, (2) Emotional Self-Awareness, and (3) Situational Responsiveness. The ERICA was also found to have
good internal consistency and to be relatively stable over a four week test-retest period and to be sensitive to age and sex
differences. It is concluded that the ERICA is a psychometrically sound measure for the assessment of the identified key aspects

Using an international dataset of about 35 000 subjects, this paper provides an empirical example of high‐stakes incentives in relation to religious practice. First, we show that incentives (based on absolute belief) play a salient role in religious performance. Second, we find that when both positive (heaven) and negative (hell) incentives are available the former are more effective than the latter. Specifically, it is shown that beliefs in heaven are much more relevant than beliefs in hell when estimating the production of religious commodities (church‐attendance and praying equations).
