Counseling in a Government Agency: Interventions for Employees and Supervisors

This article describes an organizational counseling and career development program that serves both employees and their supervisors. Program components include counseling, workshops, and a career resource center.     

EFFECTS OF SELF-ESTEEM ON LENIENCY BIAS IN SELF-REPORTS OF PERFORMANCE: A STRUCTURAL EQUATION MODEL ANALYSIS

This study used structural equation model analysis to examine the relationship between self-esteem and leniency bias in self-reports of performance. The results showed that consistent with the prediction of consistency theory (e.g., Korman, 1970), leniency bias was positively correlated with self-esteem. The results also suggest that the relationship between self-esteem and leniency bias was more positive when self-ratings were made on ambiguous performance dimensions rather than on less ambiguous dimensions. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.     

Macbeth,Throne of Blood,and the Idea of a Reflective Adaptation

Adaptations have varied relations to their source material, making it hard to formulate a general theory. Avoiding the attempt, we characterize a narrower, more unified class of reflective adaptations which communicate an active and sometimes critical relation to the source's framework. We identify the features of reflective adaptations which give them their distinctive interest. We show how these features are embodied in Akira Kurosawa's Throne of Blood, an adaptation with a radically shifted perspective on the relation between character and situation compared to its Shakespearean source. We identify some of the artistic choices through which this response to the source is conveyed, such choices being a characteristic feature of reflective adaptations.     

A Process Model for Prevention Program Research

Interventions attempted before the onset of a counseling problem are primary prevention efforts. A process model for prevention program research is the focus of this paper. The process model features four essential steps: assessment, goal setting, strategy implementation, and evaluation. The likely problems encountered by a prevention researcher at each step of the model are discussed.     

Improving Career Decision Making With Adults: Use of Portfolios

This article provides a model for developing a career portfolio process for use with high school students and adults functioning in various types of learning endeavors as they seek credentials or licenses for various careers.
