Measures of reported health change, financial stress, financial strain, and commitment to the labour market were used with a sample of 954 unemployed working-class men, selected to cover equally all levels of age and several levels of length of unemployment. It was found that psychological deterioration, financial stress and strain, and labour market commitment were greatest among middle-aged unemployed men. Deterioration in health and degree of financial strain were found to be greater among men unemployed for longer periods in contrast with those who had more recently become unemployed, but no association was observed between length of unemployment and the measures of financial stress and commitment to the labour market. The probability of having an employed wife was found to be negatively associated with length of unemployment, consistent with the operation of a household strategy for income maintenance. 相似文献

This study used structural equation model analysis to examine the relationship between self-esteem and leniency bias in self-reports of performance. The results showed that consistent with the prediction of consistency theory (e.g., Korman, 1970), leniency bias was positively correlated with self-esteem. The results also suggest that the relationship between self-esteem and leniency bias was more positive when self-ratings were made on ambiguous performance dimensions rather than on less ambiguous dimensions. This study encourages an expansion of the counselor's role through an evaluation of the efficacy of certain cognitive training procedures in teaching young children skills for interpersonal problem solving. Twenty-seven students were blocked on school grades, balanced for sex, and randomly assigned to cognitive modeling and self-instructions (CM-SI), cognitive modeling alone (CM), or a control group. A two-week training program focused on generating alternative solutions and consequences. Results of a delayed posttest indicate that the CM-SI group generated a significantly greater number, variety, and proportion of relevant solutions than the control group.
