ObjectivesThe rapid development of elite sport in Europe and across the world has had far-reaching psychosocial ramifications for those operating within its sphere of influence. Whilst sport psychologists in the latter part of the 20th century largely focused on the cognitive determinates of elite performance, the findings of recent research suggest that sport psychologists in the 21st century will need to better understand the organizational influences on world-class athletes. The purpose of this paper is, therefore, to discuss the emergence, application and future of organizational psychology knowledge in elite performance sport.MethodNarrative review and commentary.Results and conclusionThe review discusses the findings of six lines of inquiry that point to the salience of organizational issues in elite sport: i) factors affecting Olympic performance; ii) organizational stress in athletes, coaches and parents; iii) perceptions of roles within sports teams; iv) organizational success factors in sport and business; v) performance environments in elite sport; and vi) organizational citizenship behavior in sport. The commentary then focuses on the theoretical underpinnings and practical implementation of organizational service delivery in elite sport, and concludes by reflecting on how developments in this area have the potential to inform future practice and research relating to the psychology of elite sport. 相似文献

This study examined differences between Japanese international college students and U.S. college students on stigma toward people with psychological disorders, stigma tolerance in help seeking, and self‐concealment. Japanese international students had greater stigma toward individuals with psychological disorders than did their U.S. counterparts. No interrelationships between these variables, however, were found in the Japanese international student group. A paired-associate learning (PAL) test was administered to 22 community volunteers without disruptive disorders and 197 children (7.5–13.5 years-old) presenting with the inattentive and combined subtypes of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) either in combination with or without oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Participants were screened for learning disorders. In comparison to non-ADHD participants, children with ADHD achieved worse PAL and made errors rated as more acoustically and less semantically similar to the correct paired associates. These deficits were not related to hyperactivity–impulsivity or comorbid ODD. These results suggest that ADHD children are less competent at PAL and use less efficient learning strategies than their non-ADHD peers. 相似文献

In a previous word-pair encoding study (Dolan & Fletcher, 1997), we examined the effect of introducing novelty, either in studied words or in their mutual associations. A left medial temporal lobe (MTL) sensitivity to novel words and left prefrontal cortex (PFC) to novel associations was observed. In this further report on the data, we explored the extent to which the right PFC, more generally implicated in retrieval operations (Fletcher, Frith, & Rugg, 1997), was sensitive to these manipulations. Specifically, we characterised changes associated with increasing familiarity of study material. We demonstrate that the response in right ventrolateral PFC is preferentially sensitive to a condition in which all material was familiar (that is, in which all material had been presented prior to scanning). A more dorsal region in right PFC was found to be relatively more active in association with a condition in which one item in the pair was familiar but was paired with a novel associate. Our results suggest that sensitivity to stimulus familiarity is expressed in right PFC, even within the context of an encoding task. The data also provide further evidence for functional heterogeneity within right PFC, with a more ventral region responding to familiarity of complete word pairs and a more dorsal region responding to familiar single words occurring in the context of new associative relationships. 相似文献
