We measured the initial rapid learning of walking observers who wore an up-down inverting or left-right reversing prism. This prism-walking version of the 'mirror-drawing' experiment revealed that the learning curve as a function of the trial number was the same as that typically acquired from a traditional mirror-drawing experiment. We suggest that the initial short-term learning process involved in prism walking is similar to that in mirror drawing and is related to the high-level decision-making process involved in visuo-motor planning of actions with feedback from transformed vision. 相似文献

The present study provides preliminary evidence that pretreatment reward-related brain function in the striatum and medial
prefrontal cortex (PFC) could have relevance for predicting both final level and rate of change of clinical characteristics
in adolescents with major depressive disorder. Adolescents with depression underwent a functional MRI scan during a monetary
reward task, participated in an 8-week open trial of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or CBT plus selective serotonin reuptake
inhibitor, and completed reports of anxiety and depressive symptoms before, during, and after treatment. Clinicians rated
adolescents’ improvement and severity at the same time points. Growth models were used to examine change in clinical characteristics
and its association with brain function. Severity, anxiety symptoms, and depressive symptoms decreased over treatment. Final
levels of severity and anxiety symptoms were associated with pretreatment striatal reactivity, and rate of anxiety symptom
reduction was associated with greater striatal reactivity and lower medial PFC reactivity. 相似文献

This investigation challenged the long-accepted male-oriented ideology of “think male, think leader” by using social and gender identity theoretical frameworks to examine same-gender biases and the situational leadership cue of the end-of-the-table position. In an experiment consisting of 241 undergraduates enrolled in a large southwestern university in the U.S. (105 men, 135 women, and 1 sex unreported), participants viewed diagrams of male and female figures, in either same-sex or mixed-sex groups, and selected a leader. The end-of-the-table cue held, but the 120 participants (74 women, 46 men) shown mixed-sex groups with a man and a woman shown at both ends of a table chose same-gender leaders significantly more than opposite-gender leaders. Whereas the results suggest that the “think leader, think male” ideology still holds among young men, findings also demonstrated a shift away from this ideology among young women. 相似文献

This article gives an account of a person who had memory impairment and received pastoral care, with an emphasis on pastoral needs and prayer. The author provides a first-hand account addressing both sides of the pastoral care interaction. She experienced years of memory impairment comparable to mild to moderate Alzheimer's Disease. Now, however, she is a seminarian. She provides a detailed account of pastoral care received during the time of memory impairment and considers both the visiting pastor's intent and the author's recollection of the prayer and pastoral care received. Part of the uniqueness of this account is that persons with memory impairment do not usually regain their cognitive functioning and then also obtain pastoral education from which to provide the guidance gained as both patient and pastor. 相似文献

Research has identified the experience of shame as a relevant predictor of depressive symptoms. Building upon resilience theory, this is the first study to investigate if self-compassion and/or contingent self-worth (i.e., family support and God’s love) mediate the link between shame and depressive symptoms. Participants were 109 African Americans, within the age range of 18 and 64, who sought service following a suicide attempt from a public hospital that serves mostly low-income patients. Findings suggest that shame was related to depressive symptoms through self-compassion but not through contingent self-worth, underscoring the significant role that self-compassion plays in ameliorating the aggravating effect of shame on depressive symptoms. Results highlight the value of incorporating self-compassion training into interventions for suicidal African Americans in an effort to reduce the impact of shame on their depressive symptoms and ultimately their suicidal behavior and as a result enhance their capacity for resilience. 相似文献

We designed this study to elucidate child, family, and service level characteristics that may influence attrition from a continuum of care developed and maintained by a community initiated collaboration of local clinics and agencies. Subjects included 117 children and adolescents referred to the Middlesex County system of care from 1992–1999. Data were collected through a retrospective case review. The strongest predictors of attrition from the system of care both before and after the establishment of an individualized service plan included depressed/isolated symptoms, substance abuse, general risk for psychiatric problems, number of referral reasons and urgency status at program intake. Among youth exiting residential placement, those completing recommended services were more likely to be returned home earlier or within the expected time frame than were dropouts. Our study presents important preliminary findings regarding characteristics related to treatment adherence within a community initiated systems of care. 相似文献
