This project examined how the synthesis of general and realm specific self-efficacy is related to life functioning. In two studies 760 participants provided information on their levels of general self-efficacy, specific self-efficacy in the realms of positive affect, sleep, exercise and study, and quality of functioning in these realms. Higher general self-efficacy was significantly associated with realm specific self-efficacy across the realms of positive affect, sleep, study, and exercise. Both higher general self-efficacy and higher realm-specific self efficacy were associated with positive affect, quality of sleep and study skills. Realm-specific self-efficacy mediated the relationships between general self-efficacy and functioning in the realms of positive affect, sleep, and study. Structural equation modeling indicated paths from general self-efficacy to latent variables comprised of realm-specific self-efficacy. Different types of realm-specific self-efficacy together contributed to explaining variance in general self-efficacy. The results provide support for a hierarchical model of self-efficacy. The findings provide a platform for future longitudinal research and experimental intervention research examining the causal inter-relationships of general self-efficacy, realm-specific self-efficacy, and functioning. 相似文献

This study sought to develop and test a diagnostic tool for the measurement of professional human resource management (HRM) competencies in the South African context. Data on HRM competencies were collected from South African human resource (HR) practitioners (N = 189; females = 49.2%, blacks = 91.2%). Exploratory factor analyses resulted in three distinguishable HR competency dimensions: Professional behaviour and leadership (i.e. leadership-personal credibility, organisational capability, solution creation, interpersonal communication, and citizenship); Service orientation and execution (i.e. talent management, HR governance, analytics and measurement, and HR service delivery); and Business intelligence (i.e. strategic contribution, HR business knowledge, and HR technology). 相似文献

This meta‐analysis investigated the efficacy of interventions aimed at reducing procrastination in randomized controlled trials. Twelve studies, with a total of 646 participants, met inclusion criteria. The significant meta‐analytic effect size, Hedges's g = 1.18, indicates that the interventions had a large positive effect. Three variables significantly moderated effect size: Higher effects were associated with interventions delivered in person, student samples, and a no‐treatment control condition. Prior research has shown that the ratio between resting-state theta (4–7 Hz)-beta (13–30 Hz) oscillations in the electroencephalogram (EEG) is associated with reward- and punishment-related feedback learning and risky decision making. However, it remains unclear whether the theta/beta EEG ratio is also an electrophysiological index for poorer behavioral adaptation when reward and punishment contingencies change over time. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether resting-state theta (4–7 Hz)-beta (13–30 Hz) EEG ratio correlated with reversal learning. A 4-min resting-state EEG was recorded and a gambling task with changing reward-punishment contingencies was administered in 128 healthy volunteers. Results showed an inverse relationship between theta/beta EEG ratio and reversal learning. Our findings replicate and extend previous findings by showing that higher midfrontal theta/beta EEG ratios are associated with poorer reversal learning and behavioral adaptive responses under changing environmental demands. 相似文献

Two studies applied a person–situation model to examine the effect of emotional affordances of situations. Participants rated
their emotional functioning as more extensive in situations classified as being high in emotional affordance than those classified
as low in emotional affordance. Participants who scored higher on the individual difference characteristic of emotional intelligence
were more interested in entering high emotional affordance situations than were individuals lower in emotional intelligence,
and participants who scored higher on emotional intelligence were rated by others as being more successful in high emotional
affordance situations than individuals lower in emotional intelligence. These results provide preliminary evidence that the

We examined the potential effectiveness of U.S. government cigarette warnings in preventing adolescent smoking. In Study 1, 112 seventh graders rated the effectiveness of four currently required warnings and four possible other warnings and answered questions about the meaning of certain words in the warnings. In Study 2, 115 seventh graders attempted to recall the four current warnings; in Study 3, 103 eighth and ninth graders read all eight warnings one day and tried to recall them the next day. In Study 4, 25 seventh graders participated in a focus session in which they discussed the effectiveness of each of the eight warnings. The results of the studies showed that the four different evaluation strategies had convergent validity and that two current warnings and two proposed warnings are significantly more potentially effective than the other two current warnings. Our results also provided information about why some warnings are more potentially effective than others. 相似文献

Malouff and Schutte (1986) developed a measure of irrational belief intended to be shorter and more content valid than other such measures and reported preliminary evidence of reliability and validity for the measure. The present two studies examined further the validity of the new measure. Study 1 produced evidence of construct validity in that a significant correlation was found between scores on the Malouff & Schutte measure and scores on a measure of hostility, which is a theoretically related construct. Study 2 produced evidence of construct validity in that scores on the Malouff & Schutte measure were found to be correlated with scores on two measures of theoretically related constructs: anxiety and irrational tendencies/beliefs. Study 2 also produced evidence of discriminant validity in that scores on the Malouff & Schutte measure were found to be significantly more highly correlated with scores on the more theoretically similar irrational tendencies/beliefs scale than with scores on the anxiety measure. 相似文献

Previous research shows a connection between greater mindfulness and less subjective experience of pain. The present study examined whether pain management self‐efficacy and emotional intelligence mediate this relationship in individuals experiencing chronic pain. Two hundred participants experiencing chronic pain completed measures of mindfulness, experience of pain, pain management self‐efficacy, and emotional intelligence. Greater mindfulness was associated with less subjective experience of pain, greater pain management self‐efficacy, and more emotional intelligence. More pain management self‐efficacy and higher emotional intelligence were associated with less subjective experience of pain. Emotional intelligence and pain management self‐efficacy significantly mediated the relationship between mindfulness and pain. The connection between greater mindfulness and less subjective experience of pain may be due to mindfulness providing a foundation for emotional functioning and behavioural regulation that result in reductions in the experience of pain. 相似文献
