We evaluated the effects of presenting two instructive feedback stimuli of the same and different types for each target behavior taught. Four elementary school students with mild mental retardation were taught to name photographs of places of interest in the local community using constant time delay and instructive feedback. Initially, the four students were taught one set of photographs with one instructive feedback stimulus (name of the street on which the place was located) for each target photograph. All students learned to name all photographs, and three learned to name the street on which the place was located. The three students who learned to name the street for the place in the photograph were then taught three sets of photographs. Each set included two instructive feedback stimuli for each target photograph: Set 2 had one street name and one activity that occurred in the place; Set 3 had two activities per photograph, and Set 4 had one street name and one activity. The three students learned to name the photographs, but only learned to name the activities and not the street names that were presented through instructive feedback. These finds are discussed in terms of the factors that may control acquisition of instructive feedback stimuli and the implications for practice and future research.  相似文献

Administered measures of functional status, psychological distress, and quality of life to a consecutive series of 48 liver transplant recipients in follow-up clinic. Results showed that nearly total functional recovery was the norm. Thirty-six patients (75%) had a Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) score of 80–100. Twelve transplant recipients had KPS scores below 80; none were employed, and most had been transplanted within 1 year. In spite of their impaired financial status, eight of these 12 reported being mostly satisfied on the self-report Quality-of-Life Scale (QLS). For the posttransplant sample as a whole, 83% were mostly satisfied with their quality of life. Pre- and posttransplant patient samples were not significantly different in reporting mild emotional distress. Results for the small subgroup with significant objective or subjective problems in achieving acceptable quality of life following liver transplantation were reviewed. Higher than normal emotional distress on the Symptom Checklist (SCL-90-R) was consistently reported by these patients. Prospective studies are needed to identify predictor variables of quality-of-life problems and to develop prevention and rehabilitation interventions.  相似文献

Female undergraduates (N = 240) assessed for fear of success (FS) and fear of failure (FF) competed against a male, female, or no opponent (norms) on an alpha-numeric substitution task. After completing one set of trials, subjects arbitrarily received success or failure feedback, then performed again. While there were no significant effects when subject's FS classification was based on total scores from the entire set of four cues used, performance effects were found for Horner's original cue: FS-absent females performed better against a male than a female opponent, whereas the reverse was true for the FS-present subjects. Two of the other FS cues interacted with FF: at low levels of FF, FS-absent subjects performed better than FS-present subjects; for high levels of FF, there were no differences between FS groups. A number of postperformance affect ratings were consistent with theoretical expectations that FS-present females would experience more negative effect over success in achievement contexts than would FS-absent females.  相似文献

Summary When ambulatory subjects wear prisms with bases vertically opposed before the two eyes, the direction of the after-effect measured on a localization task shows that there is a bias favouring selection of the field which contains more of the floor. Subjects allowed differential views of the floor with prism bases laterally opposed also show this bias. The bias is reversed if flow patterns from the lower visual field are eliminated. These studies support the view that information in the lower ambient field is selectively utilized during locomotion.This research was supported by Grant No. APA-1 from the National Research Council of Canada. Six subjects scanned displays of random consonants for a single target which was (a) another consonant; (b) a given number; or (c) any number. A second group of six subjects took part in three comparable conditions with number displays, and letters or numbers as targets. Scanning time for a number in a letter display or a letter in a number display was more rapid than scanning for a target drawn from the same set as the background. Several unpractised subjects, and all the subjects who practised the task, were able to scan as fast through letters for “any number” as for a specific number, or conversely through digits. The finding of different scanning rates for two precisely physically specified targets, depending on which class they were drawn from, runs counter to an explanation of high-speed scanning in terms of the operation of visual feature analysers. It is suggested that familiar categorization responses may be immediate and may provide the basis for the discrimination of relevant from irrelevant items in rapid visual scanning.  相似文献

In order to determine the relative effectiveness of verbal self-instructions and training to delay before responding in modifying an impulsive cognitive style, 15 impulsive emotionally disturbed boys were assigned to one of three groups. The cognitive-training group was given practice in verbal self-instructions, the delay-training group received practice in delaying before responding, and the control group received no training. Posttreatment scores on the Matching Familiar Figures Test showed a significant increase in latencies for both the cognitive and delay-training groups. However, only the cognitive-training group, which had recieved practice in verbal self-instructions, made fewer errors following training. Implications for future research and potential treatment strategies for verbal self-instructions are discussed.  相似文献

The aftereffect of wearing 20-diopter vertically displacing prisms with bases oriented in opposite directions on the two eyes was measured in each eye. Five groups of 20 Ss differed in the density of a neutral filter worn over one eye. With no filter, the base-down prism dominated the directional judgments of both eyes, although there was a difference between the eyes consistent in direction with their differential treatment. The characteristics of the function relating aftereffect measures to filter density were found to depend upon the base orientation of the prism associated with the filter.  相似文献

Three experiments show differences in the plasticity of the contrast and assimilation portions of the Delboeuf, Ebbinghaus, and Ponzo illusions. Contrast illusions show decrement in illusion magnitude with free inspection, whereas assimilation illusions do not. A model to explain both the original distortion and the differential susceptibility of the two classes of illusion to decrement is offered.  相似文献
