Despite the recognized importance of emotion regulation (ER) for healthy psychological development, ER research has focused predominantly on the developmental periods of infancy, early childhood, and adulthood, while the middle childhood to adolescence years have been relatively neglected. An obstacle to ER research during these periods is the paucity of valid age-appropriate measures. This study reports on the psychometric evaluation of the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents (ERQ-CA), a revision of the adult measure. The ERQ-CA was evaluated with a sample of 827 participants aged between 10 and 18 years. Results indicate sound internal consistency as well as stability over a 12-month period. Sound construct and convergent validity are also demonstrated. It is concluded that the ERQ-CA is a valid age-appropriate measure for investigating the use of 2 specific strategies of ER during the childhood and adolescence developmental periods. 相似文献

We here study the predictability of eye movements when viewing high-resolution natural videos. We use three recently published gaze data sets that contain a wide range of footage, from scenes of almost still-life character to professionally made, fast-paced advertisements and movie trailers. Inter-subject gaze variability differs significantly between data sets, with variability being lowest for the professional movies. We then evaluate three state-of-the-art saliency models on these data sets. A model that is based on the invariants of the structure tensor and that combines very generic, sparse video representations with machine learning techniques outperforms the two reference models; performance is further improved for two data sets when the model is extended to a perceptually inspired colour space. Finally, a combined analysis of gaze variability and predictability shows that eye movements on the professionally made movies are the most coherent (due to implicit gaze-guidance strategies of the movie directors), yet the least predictable (presumably due to the frequent cuts). Our results highlight the need for standardized benchmarks to comparatively evaluate eye movement prediction algorithms. 相似文献

synagogues designed and built by Henryk Stifelman, an active member of the Warsaw Jewish Community and an assimilationist,
were the best proof of a continuity of the general local architectural tradition. Other examples can also be found of synagogues

Given that depression is a debilitating disorder, it is critical that we advance our understanding about the aetiology of this disorder. This study investigated both traditional (temperament and parenting) and novel (emotion regulation strategy) risk factors associated with adolescent depression. Forty‐four adolescents (12–16 years; 64% females) with high scores on a self‐report depressive symptomatology questionnaire were compared to a similar group of 44 adolescents with low scores, matched for age, gender, and ethnicity. Significant group differences were present on all assessed risk factors. The presence of high depressive symptomatology was found to be associated with (1) low levels of temperamentally based positive mood, flexibility, and approach behaviours, (2) a parenting style characterized by low nurturance and high overprotection, and (3) emotion regulation characterized by higher levels of expressive suppression and lower levels of cognitive reappraisal. It was concluded that, in addition to specific temperament characteristics and parenting style, use of particular emotion regulation strategies is associated with varying levels of depressive symptomatology. These findings reinforce the importance of incorporating emotion regulation into explanatory models of depression symptomatology. Further research that tests the direction of effects for these cross‐sectional findings is warranted. 相似文献

Fostering creative minds has always been a premise to ensure adaptation to new challenges of human civilization. While some alternative educational settings (i.e., Montessori) were shown to nurture creative skills, it is unknown how they impact underlying brain mechanisms across the school years. This study assessed creative thinking and resting-state functional connectivity via fMRI in 75 children (4–18 y.o.) enrolled either in Montessori or traditional schools. We found that pedagogy significantly influenced creative performance and underlying brain networks. Replicating past work, Montessori-schooled children showed higher scores on creative thinking tests. Using static functional connectivity analysis, we found that Montessori-schooled children showed decreased within-network functional connectivity of the salience network. Moreover, using dynamic functional connectivity, we found that traditionally-schooled children spent more time in a brain state characterized by high intra-default mode network connectivity. These findings suggest that pedagogy may influence brain networks relevant to creative thinking—particularly the default and salience networks. Further research is needed, like a longitudinal study, to verify these results given the implications for educational practitioners.
