When five theological schools realized (a) their graduates affirmed vocation as central to their theology and practice, yet (b) the parishioners of their graduates nevertheless did not feel called, they knew they had to do something. For six years, faculty teams from these schools conducted a variety of experiments in pedagogy, curriculum reform, and program development in order to train their graduates to equip all of God's people to claim and live their vocational identity in the world. This article introduces the identified challenge and necessary theological and pedagogical shift and then describes five of those experiments in greater detail. 相似文献

Unfavorable social determinants can impact mothering of young children who are homeless or poor housed and parent sense of competence. Social determinants influence on mothers’ parent sense of competence parent self-efficacy and satisfaction was investigated. Homeless mothers reported worse scores than poor housed mothers on 5 of 10 social determinants including: mother moves, abuse, un/underemployment, less stable partner relationships and student roles. Homeless mothers scored lower than poor housed mothers on parent sense of competence satisfaction and parent sense of competence total, but not on parent sense of competence efficacy. No one social determinant predicted parent sense of competence. Results underscore the need to address social determinants of health in occupational therapy community-based practice. 相似文献

The family violence and childhood trauma literature has suggested that early adverse experiences create risk factors for intimate partner violence (IPV). Thus, this study used a sample of lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) college students (N = 266) to explore differences among childhood trauma, same‐sex IPV, and IPV acceptance. The authors used survey methodology and multivariate analysis of variance. Results indicated that LGB individuals reporting childhood trauma also reported higher rates of IPV, suggesting implications for research and practice. 相似文献

Since their inception in the 1970s, ‘hard’ musical genres such as heavy metal and punk rock have come under attack for their criticism of institutionalized religion and their desecration of religious symbols. However, recent academic scholarship offers a more complex interpretation of the relationship between heavy metal/punk music and religion. Heavy metal and punk rock artists articulated a range of religious beliefs. Christian heavy metal bands used the Judeo-Christian religious symbolism deployed by secular bands as an entry point for a cultural conversation with mainstream heavy metal. Also, punk drew from a variety of traditions – including Rastafarianism, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Scholars have also suggested that fans have created music-based subcultures – including metal, straight edge, ‘do-it-yourself’– that function as extra-institutional religions by providing a sense of identity and community as well as an ethical code for living. 相似文献

This article reviews the available secondary sources on Bible translation in India with special reference to the Tamil language. The article focuses on 20th-century scholarship on the translation of the Bible into the Tamil language with some reference to critical discussions of Bible translation in other Indian languages. The article reviews critical material in Tamil and English, grouped into four broad schools of thought: (a) the biographical and narrative accounts; (b) scholarship focusing on the Hindu–Christian dialogue; (c) scholarship focusing on the assimilation of Christianity and (d) critical approaches to the translated Bible. The article compares and analyses the critical approaches of each school and argues that the fourth school of critics have produced the most constructive scholarship on Tamil Bible translation. In conclusion, the article draws the reader’s attention to the paucity of material on Bible translation in India and presents areas for further research and critical scholarship. 相似文献

This article is the first of two briefly surveying the field of Bible translation in India since the early 18th century with a comparative examination of Bible translations in some of the major Indian languages, such as, Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Protestant missionaries who arrived in South India in the early 18th century focused on translating the Bible in order to proselytise more effectively. From the 19th century, the Bible began to be translated into most Indian languages. A comparative history of translations in the above Indian languages reveals that the translated Bible had to be revised continuously to keep up with changes in linguistic developments in South Asia. Although Protestant translators hoped to create a standard Protestant terminology across all Indian languages, this was not possible because of the different histories of each language culture. Twentieth-century translation efforts have concentrated on ecumenical translations as well as translations that reflect the broader multi-faith culture in India rather than on standardising terminology. The second article will analyse the ways in which Bible translation has been studied and analysed. This second article focuses on the Tamil context, reviews available secondary material on Tamil Bible translations and compares four critical approaches to the Bible in Tamil translation. 相似文献
